17.01.2022 Ok - this photo and original caption below are absolutely gorgeous. Make sure you read through it all. I wanted to repost this though making note of the birt...hing background. Aaaamazing. Super simple to do of course for a homebirth. But you hospital and birth center birthers, don’t shy away from this. . . While you won’t probably be able to get out your DIY command hooks and hang lights everywhere - I always pack battery powered candles and fairy lights in my doula bag. Use them in the bathroom for sure - it’s fabulous lighting. Sometimes rooms do have easy ways to hang/wrap the wired fairly lights on stationary objects in the room. . #Repost @emma_jean_photography What does it mean to be held in labour. Physically held is fairly obvious, you can see her partner firmly holding her arms as she leans on his legs gripping him tightly. Feeling touched and physically supported, connected and grounded to another person that you love. But there is also another important role happening here as the woman is being energetically held by her midwives and also her loved ones who although are not present are forming an energetic hold for her. Holding space for someone requires you to be fully present, sit calmly and quietly and ready to anticipate any of their needs. Sometimes all you need is the knowledge that those people are there with you. Close enough that you could touch them if you wanted to, you could look to them for reassurance. I always imagine birth spaces as a series of circles. The woman and baby being the main circle in the middle, her partner or closest support people the next circle outside her, other support people/care providers are again outside that circle. The next circle is family and friends who are not present but sending all their good vibes and positive energy. Finally there is the last circle that contains all the women that have passed in that woman’s life who are no doubt surrounding her in that moment. Holding space for a birthing woman is an honour whether you get to do it in their birthing space or from afar.

15.01.2022 We hope you have had a wonderful day being showered with love, spending time with those most special to you, or remembering those who have past on. There are so... many different mums, but the one thing that all mums have in common is that fierce & unconditional love for the person that calls them mum. #happymothersday #hypnobirthinginternational See more

11.01.2022 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY With a theme like Choose to Challenge we feel like everything is aligned with what we are trying to achieve through the @birth...timeworld documentary and movement... to challenge the status quo, to challenge the system, to challenge the way things are currently done- moving towards a new, different way that allows women to emerge from their births physically well AND emotionally safe. We stand here celebrating women for all that they are, for all that they are capable of, and for all they are yet to achieve. Let us rise up together and start healing these injustices for our future generations. 11.01.2022 Thought for the day...

09.01.2022 There is still a long way to go for global equality.

08.01.2022 #Repost @antheathomas I believe all healthy women should have access to Birth how they want, where they want. Informed choice is actually a human right, not... a privilege. In Australia many women don’t have access to water birth, yet the World Health Organization states that all women should have access to water in Birth. Our patriarchal medical system is telling women that birthing at home & in water is dangerous & that they should look to the system to keep them safe. This is a system that now sees us with some of the highest intervention & surgical birth rates in the world. The long term implications of these interventions are not to be ignored. Only 15% of Australian some will have no intervention. This system is failing our women & desperately needs to be reformed. Education is they key to changing this fear based culture of birth. If you or someone you know is pregnant, please look into quality independent childbirth education. HypnoBirthing International is premium education that is evidence based & effective in helping parents navigate this system & have a more positive birth experience. Our program is now in 8 major hospitals in Australia because it significantly reducing unnecessary intervention. #hypnobirthinginternational #womenshealth #birthwithoutfear #informedchoice #birthrights Credit to @momaftergodsownheartshop for graphic! #hypnobirthinginternational #childbirtheducation #birthkeepers #humanrights #informedchoice #birthrights

04.01.2022 We all have a responsibility to create safe and respectful spaces, including in the workplace. Gender inequality leads to entitlement, the expectation that your... preferences, desires, opinions and decisions deserve to be prioritised over others, it breeds disrespect and creates the space for control and violence. Take a moment to reflect, with humility, on whether you prioritise your voice, ideas and ambitions above that of the women in your life. How can you make your relationships more equal each day? It's time we bust the myths and break the silence about domestic and family violence. 03.01.2022 Happy international Day of the Midwife to all the amazing midwives out there. Follow the data, invest in midwives is the theme of the 2021 International Da...y of the Midwife. This year the midwife community is advocating for investment in quality midwifery care around the world, improving sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health in the process. Achieving universal coverage of midwife-delivered interventions by 2035 could save 4.3 million lives by 2035. This would include averting 67% of maternal deaths, 64% of newborn deaths and 65% of stillbirths
