A good therapist can guide and support an individual through the process of challenging these self-defeating thoughts and behaviours that drive the perfectionism, assisting them to set more achievable outcomes. 21.01.2022 From a counselling perspective, it is not uncommon for those who are diagnosed with depression to have experienced some form of childhood trauma and to be identified with multiple psychological conditions that can be long-lasting and often complex to manage. In many cases of childhood trauma, survivors feel that they are not understood and have few people to whom they can confide in or seek support from, and life can sometimes become difficult to manage. 07.01.2022 It is important to find a therapist that allows the client the space to take the session where the client wants it to go and at the pace that the client feels comfortable with. It is imperative to work with a counsellor who checks in with the client regularly, asking how the client is doing, what the client is thinking and feeling, and whether the client is finding the sessions helpful. Sometimes the therapist may need to shift gears during the process for a more positive outcome. 05.01.2022 Rapport is the key tool for achieving positive change in the therapeutic relationship between the client and the counsellor. Without rapport, the alliance will probably break down. 03.01.2022 As a counsellor working with clients who are going through grief and loss, I am often asked how long these heart-wrenching feelings of grief will last for.
