24.01.2022 If you’re looking for books and worksheets relevant to the challenges we are facing as families at the moment (particularly when we can’t visit those we love), I’d highly recommend The Invisible String by Patrice Karst. There’s a wonderful workbook that accompanies the picture book with activities like this one below. #MindfulPathways #HomeSchooling #Connectedness #Love #Family #TheInvisibleString

22.01.2022 Often in therapy, clients comment about how much lighter they feel after sharing their story. They talk about feeling less guilt, less shame, less embarrassme...nt. Telling our stories in safe places allows us, as Brené Brown says, to understand and know empathy, because empathy’s the antidote to shame #MindfulPathways #Empathy #Shame #Talking #Stories #Psychologist #Adelaide #MentalHealth #SafeSpace Ann Voskamp See more

21.01.2022 A reminder that on the days you think you’ve failed, your children may be feeling the most loved. What kids need is a parent, not a perfect parent. Take the pressure off, Mama #MindfulPathways #MindfulMotherhood #Parenting #PerfectlyImperfect

18.01.2022 Yesterday was International Nurses Day. The deeply important role that nurses play in our lives is described so eloquently by the wonderful Brené Brown. Now more than ever, you deserve the biggest thank you #Nurses #Gratitude #Health #InternationalNursesDay

17.01.2022 Sending love on Mother’s Day

17.01.2022 On a walk today, I saw some native mistletoe. I’ve always been fascinated with mistletoe. The tradition of hanging it in the house goes back to the times of the ancient Druids, and in Norse mythology the goddess of love, Frigg declared mistletoe a symbol of love and vowed to plant a kiss on all those who passed beneath it. It made me realise the significance of these changes we are undergoing as humans. For thousands of years, we have used touch as a means of communicating, ...of expressing ourselves. And now we must adapt, must find alternatives to assist us to maintain our emotional and social literacy. We need to use more words. We need to be creative about ways in which we show love and care to each other. We need to develop new traditions, new symbols of our human connectedness. I’m planning to find some more mistletoe on my walks this weekend, and talk to my family about how we can create a new tradition of connectedness without the kiss, and write a new story for this ancient symbol of love. #MindfulPathways #SocialConnectedness #MentalHealth #Love #Communication

11.01.2022 All this talk of Social Distancing, and I decided to start implementing some Self Care strategies tonight in preparation for more time disconnected (those who k...now me, know I’m an extrovert and usually refuel through connection). I recently bought some of this amazing reuseable Chinese magic water paper for the kids, but decided to spend some time tonight exploring my creativity and relaxing through self-expression. This paper is less than $10 online. And you only require water and a paintbrush to use it. Maybe in all of this, we have an opportunity to explore values that otherwise lie neglected in our busy lives. #MindfulPathways #SocialDistancing #SelfCare #ValuesLedLiving #Creativity #SelfExpression #Refuel

06.01.2022 Today is World Sleep Day, an annual event to raise awareness of sleep disorders and the burden that they place on society. Most sleep disorders are preventable or treatable, yet less than one-third of sufferers seek professional help. Sleep problems constitute a global epidemic that threatens health and quality of life for up to 45% of the world’s population. Better understanding of sleep conditions and more research into the area will help reduce the burden of sleep disorder...s on society. Three elements of good quality sleep are: * Duration: The length of sleep should be sufficient for the sleeper to be rested and alert the following day. * Continuity: Sleep periods should be seamless without fragmentation. * Depth: Sleep should be deep enough to be restorative. Psychologists are able to support clients experiencing sleep problems, providing psychoeducation, sleep hygiene and cognitive behavioural techniques to improve the quality and quantity of sleep. Contact us if you’d like to discuss receiving support to improve your sleep #MindfulPathways #WorldSleepDay #SleepHygiene #Rest #MentalHealth #Insomnia #Psychologist #Adelaide

06.01.2022 Anyone else with this diagnosis?

01.01.2022 The first 3 months are the hardest They don’t call it the fourth trimester for nothing. Your newborn baby will be gradually adjusting to life outside the womb a...nd you will go through all kind of hormonal and physical changes while recovering from childbirth. Our world is the complete opposite of the safe cocoon the baby emerged from. Adjusting to constant stimulation, learning to express their needs, life outside is a big deal to a newborn baby, some adjust easily, and others take their time. You need to empathize with your child and give them what they need. I promise you that if you soothe your baby by picking them up, they won’t be stuck to your hip forever, not even a few months down the line. Your emotions will be like a pendulum, swaying from one extreme to another. It’s important to get rest, eat, and drink well. It’s only too likely that you’ll lose yourself in the busy life of a new mother, but take care of yourself. Factor in ‘me time’ in the week to reconnect with yourself and rejuvenate. A happy mother makes a happy baby. #bumpandbeyondadelaide #adelaidemums #adelaidemumsandbubs #adelaidemumsclub #adelaidemothersgroup #adelaidemumsinbusiness #adelaidemumsgroup #mumsadelaide #mumsofadelaide #salocal #adelaidelocal #adelaidebusiness #supportsa #mothersgroup
