24.01.2022 To meditate in Sanskrit means to cultivate self. I especially like this definition because of the metaphorical possibilities it offers, such as gardening. When you cultivate the soil, you take the packed-down earth that has been lying fallow for a while & you churn it up with a spade. You expose new dirt & nutrients, making it easier for seeds to germinate & for tender shoots to take root. Cultivation may also require you to remove plants from the previous season, attend ...to weeds that went unnoticed, & remove any rocks that rose to the surface by natural sifting. Last seasons plants might represent your past creations derived from the thoughts, actions, & emotions that define the old, familiar you. Weeds could signify attitudes, beliefs, or perceptions about yourself that are subconsciously undermining you, which you hadnt noticed because you were too distracted by other things. And the rocks can symbolize your many layers of personal blocks & limitations (which naturally rise to the surface over time). All these need tending to so you can make room to plant a new garden in your mind. Otherwise, without proper preparation, it would yield little fruit. It is impossible to create any new future when you are rooted in your past. You have to clear away the old vestiges of the garden (of the mind) before you can cultivate a new self by planting the seeds of new thoughts, behaviors, & emotions that create a new life. To cultivate requires making conscious decisionswhen to till the soil, when to plant, what to plant, how each of the items planted will work in harmony with the others, how much water & fertilizer to mix in, etc. Planning & preparation are essential to the success of the endeavor. This requires our daily mindful attention. When you cultivate anything, you are seeking to be in control. And thats what is required when you change any part of your self. Instead of allowing things to develop naturally, you intervene & consciously take steps to reduce the likelihood of failure. The purpose behind this effort is to reap a harvest. When you cultivate a new personality in meditation, the abundant yield you seek to create is a new reality See more

15.01.2022 Guided Meditation: Inner Refuge of Calm (21:10 min) - Tara Brach In times of great stress, its crucial that we have pathways to quiet our minds, relax our bodies and rest in a calm, steady presence. This meditation guides us in using the breath, body scan, and a home base of presence to find that inner refuge that can carry us through difficult times.

14.01.2022 Meditation Taoists speak about the ability to have Delta brain waves while awake. These brain waves are typically only present during deep sleep. However, throu...gh a long-term meditation habit, one can develop the ability to be deeply relaxed and wide awake. The chemicals in the brain that occur during sleep can occur during meditation and altered states of consciousness arise. Experiments have been conducted to show the possibility of awareness and relaxation occurring at the same time in a state known by the name flow state in best-selling literature. Taoist masters see this as a return to our natural state. 13.01.2022 Meditation may bring to mind images of spirituality and solitudeof quiet, candlelit rooms in sacred spaces with music playing softly in the background. But the beauty of meditation is in its simplicity and accessibility: The benefits touch people of all ages, wherever they are able to find time and space to practice it.

06.01.2022 One of my most favorite topics! Irregularities in the vagus nerve can cause tremendous distress in physical and emotional health. Physical consequences can include GERD, IBS, nausea or vomiting, fainting, migraines, tinnitus, auto-immune disorders, and seizures. Mental health consequences include fatigue, depression, panic attacks, or a classic alternation between feeling overwhelmed and shut-down. Stimulating the vagus nerve helps to regulate both sympathetic hyper-arousal... and parasympathetic hypo-arousal. Since all vagus nerve stimulation initiates a relaxation response, it is important to develop tolerance for the parasympathetic state without going into dysfunctional hypo-arousal in which you might feel collapsed or shut-down. Initially, you might feel sleepy when exploring relaxation. For example, meditation and yoga nidra practices can be deeply relaxing, however some people fall asleep. Ultimately, the goal is to discover a relaxed yet awake state. However, you might experiment with allowing yourself to sleep which could be medicinal for your nervous system. In contrast, if you begin to notice that you feel dizzy or nauseaus when practicing any vagus nerve interventions, then, back off and proceed slowly and gently with just a few minutes a day. ~words by Arielle Schwartz~ (Oh! And you can join me for mediation and yin each Wednesday at 6:15pm via zoom )

05.01.2022 Is yoga actually beneficial to your health? Find out how this ancient tradition affects your body and mind:

05.01.2022 Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. Its a way of entering into the quiet thats already there buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day. Deepak Chopra

04.01.2022 Guided Meditation: Embodied Metta(19:36 min) - Tara Brach Lovingkindness becomes full when it is energetically experienced in our bodies. This meditation guides us in awakening the receptivity, warmth and openness of metta through our body, and then invites us to rest in the space of loving presence, as we open to whatever arises.

04.01.2022 Smiling to the Nervous System We talk about the Inner Smile meditation from time to time. It is a practice of going through the vital organs of the body, feelin...g the associated positive emotions, and seeing the colors related to each organ. The theory is that organs thrive with these qualities; like the way humans can feel at home in certain climates. Part of the Inner Smile is that the meditation goes beyond the organs to increase awareness in the digestive track, the nervous system, muscles, tendons, and the bones. Today, I want to describe the process of smiling (increasing awareness and aliveness) to the nervous system. This is a useful practice, because, as my favorite professor in college said but doctor, my nervous system is what is keeping me up at night!! We begin by closing our eyes, generating saliva in our mouth, and pressing our tongue to the center of the roof of our mouth. Next, we bring our attention to our eyes and feel our third eye expand. Then, feel the glands in our brain: the pituitary gland at the third eye, the pineal beneath the crown, and the hypothalamus at the base of the brain. We see these glands blossom like flowers opening to the morning sun. From the base of the brain, smile and feel awareness in the first cervical vertebra. I use the visualization of descending a spiral staircase by seeing each vertebra light up with my awareness. There are seven cervical vertebra, twelve thoracic, five lumbar, and then the sacrum and coccyx. Feel the cartilage between each vertebra expand, becoming spongy and happy. It is difficult to feel each vertebra as we start (or if were out of practice). It can help to have someone touch each vertebra or rub your back against a tennis ball on the floor or a wall. Our whole body will feel relaxed and calm after this practice. 03.01.2022 To meditate means first of all to be there, to be on your cushion, to be on your walking meditation path. Eating also is a meditation if you are really there, present one hundred per cent with your food. The essential is to be there. So please when you practice walking meditation, dont make any effort. Allow yourself to be like that pebble at rest. The pebble is resting at the bottom of the river and the pebble does not have to do anything. While you are walking, you are resting. While you are sitting, you are resting.

02.01.2022 I am often asked what to expect or how should it feel when Meditating. I am not an expert but have been meditating mostly daily for over 20 years and have studied with people worldwide, and taught it to school children and adults. My answer is this: personally I do ever go into meditation with any expectations. It is what it is and sit with whatever arises as it comes from our deepest self Sending loving metta to you all xo

02.01.2022 Mindfulness mediation can be so helpful with the general stressors of life, and to help assist in the recovery of trauma and anxiety. . A number of clients often say " but I just can't stop thinking" ...it's what our thinking minds are meant to do. However there is a way to "get better" at mediation and that is to continue to practice it. . Easier said than done, but if you make it part if your daily routine, just like brushing your teeth, it becomes a habit. A healthy... habit of mind. . I have been meditating for over 25 years and each time it's a little different. Initally I would "last" for 1 or 2 breaths before the mind became entangled and swept away with the steam of stories. These days with having more experience and properly trained in teaching others, its much longer. But I never cling to a desired outcome of what it "should" be like. Instead I approach each 'sit' with an open acceptance. As if it was my first meditation. . If you would like to tune in to your inner self and would like some guidance please reach out or book me through my website www.sharmainecherie.com.au Namaste
