16.01.2022 Everything takes practice. This includes the good things that can improve your mental health. Healthy skills can take time to learn, practice, adjust and refine. Often people believe that you should just "know better" or just "stop" doing things that are not good for you. But it is really hard to stop a bad habit or interrupt an automated response. But a key to therapy is that once you learn the good things that make you feel better (e.g., exercise, self care, meditat...ion, interrupting bad thoughts) you have to practice them. It takes time for them to stick. And you have to keep doing them for it to work. Often patients get frustrated when their anxiety or depression is not gone after one week of trying healthy habits. The trick is to get really good at the new healthy skills and use them every single time your symptoms start to appear (whether that is thoughts or behaviours). Practice Practice Practice Take care :)
