25.01.2022 Poseidon Primary P&C have established a crowd funding page to raise funds to help get the Hydro Hippos to Sydney for the FIRST Lego League National Tournament in early December. If you are able to show your support, the kids would really appreciate it.

21.01.2022 #summit17wa Are we best equipping our kids for their future employment? We spent most of Friday with some very inspiring young adults, participating in Summit 17 hosted by ECU at EY’s offices in Perth. We had the pleasure of facilitating a session with 16, 8-13 year olds on how education could be improved. Their ideas and passion was infectious and certainly makes us want to continue down the path of trying to improve the ways we educate the next generation. ... So what were their ideas? The biggest suggestions for improvements were to make things more relevant to what they need today. They want to work on problems they can see, like global warming, the environment and creating new businesses/jobs. They imagined a school where instead of children sitting in rows listening to a teacher, the students are working together, tackling large problems, finding the relevant tools, then coming up with creative solutions. It is through this sort of engaging program they will not only achieve the ‘three R’s’ but will become independent critical thinkers, problem solvers and collaborators. Surely that’s a lot more useful than someone who can recite McBeth quotes, or know the atomic numbers of first 20 elements on the periodic table. What are you thoughts? We'd love to know.

20.01.2022 Over the last four years we have run an after school robotics club at Mr Mind Mash's children's primary school. Primarily they have competed in FIRST Lego League, which is a global STEM based challenge. This year for the first time one of our teams the Hydro Hippos have been selected to progress to nationals in Sydney. This is the first new run they have redesigned, looks very simple, however was probably around twenty hours of work!
