25.01.2022 Meeting 4.3.14 - few notes from meeting (please email us if you would like the full minutes) Sadly Laurie-Ann Williams handed in her resignation on this day - We would like to thank her for all her hard work, dedication and passion. In 2010 when MCU formed - Laurie-ann has been an important part of the team... Her local knowledge and passion for the town has proved over and over again to be so valuable. We wish her and Russell all the best for their future and we know we will... see her back here real soon. After the Xmas party in 2013 we were left with approx $17 000... We have decided to put some of the money back into the community as per below Collinsville Youth Coalition (Kerry Cowan) we have donated $2500 to this and they have purchased an Air Hockey table for the youth centre. St Vincent De Paul - we have held $3000 in a side account to give to Vinnies locally for Xmas this year - we believe that there will be an increase in under-privileged families and community members so we are happy to be able to help in this way. Collinsville State School P&C, Scottville State School P&C, Collinsville State High P&C, St John Bosco's, and the Collinsville/Scottville Kindy have each received $500. School numbers are at a low this year and it is sad to see many families have had to leave - this in turn reduces funding and resources and staff numbers - we hope this donation can help in some small way. Collinsville Community Association has received $2000 - this is to also help families in need. CCA is only funded by the Govt (Dept of Communities) for wages and 10% of operational costs (phone, electricity, ect) - they get NO funding for emergency relief and they rely on donations from places like the church and also Vinnies. It saddens us that this organisation is having to turn people in need away without helping them - so we hope this donation will help in some small way. Also at the Meeting a resolution was passed that MCU on behalf of the community (and residents at the meeting) we would put together a submission in regards to the Rail Line and land acquisition letters we have received. This was moved by Jim Pearce, 2nd by Helen Sawyer and all were in favour. We have called for a replacement for Laurie-Ann - she was the Secretary - at this stage Candice Betts will be Treasurer and acting-secretary, While Sheree Taylor will still be assistant Secretary - if you can help by filling in Laurie-ann's spot please contact us. We can re-shuffle roles if you do not want to be Secretary. Thanks

23.01.2022 Important Community Meeting this Wednesday at 4pm. At Motel Opal Ridge.

20.01.2022 Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has been sending us messages of thanks and support. It has been an awesome 4 years.... and we thank you all for everything xo

18.01.2022 URGENT!!!! Collinsville Alert Wednesday 5th March 5.30 Opal Ridge Motel M.C.U meeting to discuss Land Resumption for proposed Rail Development & Buffer Zone. My advice to the Collinsville Community is to talk about the issue and prepare a communication strategy... Don’t allow Government Agencies to think you are okay with the proposed resumption of housing and vacant land- By remaining silent on the issue! Jimmy Pearce (Bowen Basin Community Advocate)

16.01.2022 PRESS RELEASE DECISION TIME FOR COLLINSVILLE In July 2014 the Whitsunday Regional Council approved a controversial 350 unit accommodation village at the end of Henderson Street Collinsville. The decision quickly attracted a community back lash with residents objecting to the proposed camp site because of its close link to the History of Collinsville and the 1954 mine disaster that was responsible for the loss of 7 of the towns finest. Whitsunday Council rejected the more than... 30 objections to the camp. This motivated a number of people to proceed with taking the matter to the Land and Environment Court. Jim Pearce, Bowen Basin Community Advocate has told the Bowen Independent that there was a town full of anger at the time it brought the town together as one, calling for the decision to be over turned. In particular, Trevor Anderson and his partner Eileen dedicated many tens of hours to research, preparation of documents, ongoing consultation with lawyers and town planning experts in preparing a strong case for the court Mining Communities United (MCU) while having input to the Henderson Street appeal have been bogged down fighting Glencore over the rights of former locally skilled workers to be re-employed at the Collinsville Mine. Mr Pearce said the time has now come where the community, the people who live in Collinsville need to make a decision about how far they want to proceed with the matter It’s D Day for Collinsville, does the town back the continuation of the appeals process or do they let it slide? That decision must be made by the people; it cannot be left to a half a dozen passionate residents to lock the town into something that some people might object to. That is not fair. A meeting has been set down for Wednesday 5th February for 6.30pm at the Opal Ridge Motel meeting room. Mr Pearce said he would be chairing the meeting and was encouraging frank and open discussion. This fight has now past the mucking around stage, we have to move forward to deliver the knockout punch knowing that the people of Collinsville support the proposed course of action. 14.01.2022 So after a recent town meeting and then a phone conference with some of the people who helped us organise the Christmas Online Pledge Appeal... MCU have come to the decision where the rest of the money will go.... We will be donating $2500 to the Collinsville CYC (youth centre) I believe Kerry will be purchasing a huge air hockey table with this cash - Kerry Cowan is doing an amazing job with the new look CYC and she is powering along - but as it is in need of things for the... kids to do - we have decided we would love to help her. We will also be putting money into a term deposit to give to Saint Vinnies... The reason we are doing this is so that it goes locally to the families and children that need it for Xmas 2014 - as most of us know - the Collinsville CFMEU every year would donate left over Xmas Presents from their Union Christmas Tree party - well there is no lodge currently here - so we were worried come Xmas this year (2014) they will have no help...so we will be helping them out. We have also decided to donate $500 to all the Schools and the local Kindy - with a huge decline in student numbers resulting in cuts to teachers and resources - we thought this may help them in some small way. Last but not least - MCU will also be purchasing items and helping Laurie-Ann and Cassandra from the Collinsville Community Assoc in regards to the Easter Bilby In The Park.... this is still undecided as to how we will help - but we will be purchasing what ever is needed for this community event. MCU would like to thank all the people who donated - online and throught the bank account - it was an amazing show of support and we are truly grateful. We were so happy to see so many smiling faces at the party and it made all the hard work worth every minute....
