25.01.2022 Meet Sam Barnes. He grew up in Birdsville, attending the local state school with Jenna Brook. His father Peter opened the workshop in the 1980s, later adding a fuel station and a general store; today the sprawling complex is called The Birdsville Roadhouse a one-stop shop for food, petrol, mechanical repairs and a variety of other services. Without the workshop, locals and tourists would either be stuck in Birdsville, unable to get out ... or stuck in the desert unable to... get in! And Sam is usually the man who tows them out of the sand and fixes their 4WDs in the workshop. He says he does between 10-20 rescues every year. His house is about 200m from the workshop but he drives the distance in his turquoise turbo-charged convertible. A boiler-maker by trade, he was thrilled that Jenna Brook bought the Roadhouse in 2020 so he could return to work in solitude, not having to bear the onslaught of cranky tourists who break down. 'Birdsville or Bust' airs tonight on SBS at 8:40pm. Also available on SBS On Demand.

His documentarie...s have received four Emmys and numerous other awards. 25.01.2022 "Don, the Munga-Thirri Park Ranger, is still scarred by his past, an Aboriginal kid born into the Wangkangurru mob who says they were treated like animals. Don spent his childhood in the back of the police paddy wagon but today he rides up the front, side by side with Stephan. To me, this is the most powerful storyline in the film." - Dan Goldberg, Director 'Birdsville or Bust' streaming now on SBS On Demand.

13.01.2022 WE NEED YOUR HELP ONCE MORE - Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 and other unforeseen overages, not to mention a budget that was tight to begin with, our doco has i...ncurred some limited costs that were not budgeted for. We would like to ask your help for the following items: ARCHIVE We need an extra $10,560 (which amounts to 2 extra minutes@$88 per second, which is standard rates). MUSIC We need an extra $2,500 to license commercial music. EDIT There is now 22TB of footage to wade through, far more than we expected so we will need another three weeks in the edit at an extra cost of $9,440 (editor, rental of suite and assist). TRAVEL We would desperately like the families to come down for the premiere next year, and a major donor has generously offered accommodation but the cost of transporting about 25 people down will be circa $2500. TOTAL: $25,000 We have raised 3K already, but have 22K to go. We are respectfully asking you, as a supporter of The Bowraville Murders, if you have any capacity to help us a little further, and if not (which we totally understand!) whether you can suggest someone in your network who may wish to support our project. 09.01.2022 Meet Dan, one of our producers. Dan is a multi-award-winning producer who began his career in newspapers and magazines.Regardless of the platform, it boils down... to story-telling. From a 200-word brief to a TV series, the narrative is the crux. When I listened to the Bowraville podcast in May 2016, I was struck by the rank racism that subsumes this sorry saga. It was so powerful and so shameful, and I felt a documentary could be even more challenging and confronting. And I hoped it could become a part of ‘The Reckoning’ that this country has to have with its past. It’s taken four years of hard yakka to develop and finance this doco, and finally our cameras are about to roll on this production See more
