22.01.2022 14 April 2020 - AFL Gippsland update

21.01.2022 We would like to pass on the directive from the MGFNL Exec committee that the 2020 Junior Football and Netball Season has now been cancelled due to the ongoing health issues surrounding the COVID 19 Virus. As of early this morning, we were all prepared to host the first home game for the season with coaches, players, and volunteers working hard to make sure that everything and everyone was ready to go on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, this is not to be. Whilst this will b...e disappointing for many of our young players and coaches, in light of the increasing risk of spreading the virus in our local areas, it is the right decision to ensure the safety of everyone in the community. We would like to thank our coaches and coaching staff who have put in so much work to prepare our players. In particular we would like to make mention of Damo Turner, Michael Watt, Josh Taylor, Ebony Best, Jodie Pincini and Maddi Knowles, who have all gone above and beyond to develop our junior footballers and netballers. Their dedication and commitment to the club has been a great example of leadership for us all to aspire to. We now look forward to preparing for the 2021 season and encourage everyone to keep in touch with each other and keep an ear out for any developments over the coming months. We thank you all for your ongoing commitment to our wonderful Club and hope this will continue in the following years. Please look after yourself and your families and contact us if we can assist you in some way during these challenging times. Regards MNFNC Committee of 2020

20.01.2022 On behalf of the MNFNC we would like to extend our condolences to the Wilkins family on the recent passing of Gordon Wilkins. Gordon was a past 1956 premiership player, a past committee member of junior team manager. RIP

19.01.2022 Who’s joining us for a fun night in in The Boo?

Brent & Ben are the perfect fit to get our reserves back to where they should be as well as being a big part of the senior scene Josh said. Experienced leaders on and off the field, these two are already on the move and contacting players and will help to ensure that we are going to have strong sides in both the Seniors & Reserves. 11.01.2022 MIRBOO NORTH FOOTBALL NETBALL REPORT by Rover MIRBOO North Football Netball Club is delighted Alberton‘s six clubs have joined the Mid Gippsland Football Netball League.... The addition of Fish Creek, Foster, Meeniyan Dumbalk United, Stony Creek, Tarwin and Toora lifts the MGFNL to a 15-team competition for the 2021 season. As well as shaping up to Fish Creek, Foster, Tarwin and Toora for the first time, Mirboo North is especially excited to resume battles with MDU and Stony Creek after more than five decades. Mirboo North last competed against MDU and Stony Creek in 1968 in the South Gippsland Football League that also included Korumburra, Leongatha, Poowong and Wonthaggi. Trivia buffs will recall it was the year Richard Nixon won the White House, open tennis was born and Boeing introduced the first ‘Jumbo Jet’. A recent meeting of Mid Gippsland officials and club delegates voted down Trafalgar’s request to join the Ellinbank Football Netball League. In other news, Mirboo North has reappointed Josh Taylor and Ebony Best as senior football and head netball coaches respectively for 2021.

07.01.2022 To our Mirboo North Tiger community, How have times changed! The Committee wanted to write to you all to update you on what is happening at our local level in regards to the potential resumption of our 2020 season. Firstly, from the outset the health and wellbeing of all of our members and players and of the wider MGFNL community is foremost in our thinking and all other considerations are secondary to this important consideration. We would like to thank our many generous an...d loyal volunteers & sponsors who have continued to support the club throughout the pandemic. Many businesses will have incurred significant losses over the isolation period yet many have continued to financially support our club. Thanks also to our players and supporters who continue to communicate their loyalty to the club and wish for a resumption of our normal season fixtures. As many of you will know, AFL Victoria and Cricket Victoria have reached an agreement that has extended the timeline for a potential season. This is a positive development and would allow us to hold a 12 week season including finals to be completed on or before 18th October. MGFNL have indicated that 12 weeks is the minimum required to run an amended season including finalise. This shortened season will be dependent on State Government and local government permissions. The potential new season also hinges on how the pandemic situation improves or worsens and the speed at which the State government eases the restrictions that have been so successful in Victoria. The potential season would also be dependent on clubs agreeing to play on the proviso that no member of any MGFNL club contracted the virus during the season. Our committee executive has already determined that if we cannot have crowds, canteen and bar then it will not be viable to begin the proposed season. There will be significant levels of compliance to be followed, should the season get underway. The rules governing food service and personal distancing, player hygiene training, social events and etc might be too stringent and onerous to allow us to proceed. There are many factors that need to line up for the proposed season to go ahead. We hope to be able to provide you all with more clarity soon. We will make a decision on training later this week. We would prefer to have certainty that the season will commence prior to committing to training, but we understand players are keen to get back on the paddock / court. In the meantime, we hope that all of our players continue with their personal fitness regimes and get themselves as fit as they can should we be able to press that button soon. To our junior teams: Whether the official season does or does not get going in 2020 and given the opportunity, we will make every effort to provide games (official or non-official) for our junior teams to play this year. Thank for your ongoing support and take care in these interesting times MNFNC Committee

06.01.2022 MID Gippsland’s 2020 senior football and netball competitions have been cancelled, due to ongoing implications of the global COVID-19 pandemic. A meeting of MGFNL officials and club delegates on Wednesday 24 June decided, for a myriad of reasons, that it was impractical for a shortened season to take place. Not since World War 2, has there been a season without senior Mid Gippsland football.... Spare a thought for so many players’ all-for-naught exhaustive pre-season training sessions, embracing sprints and long distance running, circle work, calisthenics and lifting weights in the gym. Neither, let us not forget all the loyal club volunteers and supporters, who now only have their AFL teams to follow. It’s also the first time Mid Gippsland netball has been abandoned, without a whistle being blown, since its establishment in 1982. On a brighter note, an official announcement that Mid Gippsland junior football and netball will soon commence, is anticipated in coming days. Although it remains unclear how many of the MGFNL’s nine clubs are able to participate, Mirboo North’s thirds and fourths footballers and its 17s and 15s netballers are fit and ready for action. VALE SUE TRAILL Mirboo North Football Netball Club extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Sue Traill following her passing on 16 June. Sue spent countless Saturdays watching husband Tom, sons Tim and Nick and daughters Georgia and Sophie playing footy and netball for Mirboo North. Sue’s favourite afternoon was seeing Tim and Nick represent Mirboo North in its 40-year drought-breaking 59-point senior premiership win over Morwell East in 2006 at Moe. Rover

06.01.2022 NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 2020 The theme for #NRW2020 In this together is now resonating in ways we could not have foreseen when it was announced last year, but it reminds us whether in a crisis or in reconciliation we are all in this together. Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Abor...iginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures. https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/

05.01.2022 Thank you Greg, Trish, Jess, Lloyd and Bec for your sponsorship, support and friendship to the MNFNC. We wish you all the very best for your new ventures and hope we see you around the club in your spare time. You will be missed.

05.01.2022 STRONG LEADERS - RE-COMMITTED The MNFNC is thrilled to announce that Josh Taylor and Ebony Best have re-signed to coach their respective Senior Football & Netball groups for season 2021. Ubby has had great success at the helm in 2018 & 2019 with finals appearances in both seasons. As a premiership coach and player, Ubby is looking forward to getting a solid group of players out on the track and building upon that success! ... Premiership coach & player, league and club Best & Fairest winner Ebony, says she’s looking forward to getting back out on the court and working with the players who had trained so hard for season 2020 as well as welcoming new players to the club! We wish them both success for a long anticipated season 2021!
