23.01.2022 What would we do without our local Meals on Wheels service? Today is National Meals on Wheels Day where we recognise 76,000 dedicated people who volunteer for Meals on Wheels. This morning I visited Meals on Wheels - Shailer Park and passed on my gratitude to a group of our local volunteers for their hard work, commitment and compassion they provide to our community at home.... Shailer Park Meals on Wheels delivers approximately 9000 meals to over 60 clients, with the help of 55 volunteers. Providing essential nourishment, value, social connection to our clients and peace of mind for their families. I remember my time fondly of doing meals on wheels with my mum when I was a child and saw firsthand how appreciative they were for our visit. If you know of anyone who would benefit from Meals on Wheels or if you are interested in volunteering please visit their page. #MealsonWheels #community #Division10Logan

21.01.2022 What would we do without our volunteers? 18.01.2022 Our youth are our future and Project Booyah offers an amazing program to help at risk young people regain a sense of their own self-worth, build resilience and enable them to feel a connection with their local community. Today I was invited to the 2020 graduation of a group of 8 remarkable young men who recently completed the 16-week Project Booyah journey at PCYC Tudor Park. It was wonderful hearing about the difference this program had made in the lives of these boys from t...hose involved in the program, the parents of the boys and the boys themselves. Project Booyah is a partnership between the Queensland Police Service (QPS), Education Queensland, and various government and employment Providers. The program provides a structured program that is based upon three core values: Respect, Strength and Engagement. It incorporates adventure-based learning, social and skill development training, community intervention, mentoring, functional literacy and numeracy support as well as vocational scholarships: to support identified at risk young people regain a sense of their own self-worth, build resilience and enable them to feel a connection with their local community The program selects ten young people for each cohort (intake) at each location twice yearly across Queensland, referred by government partners, or directly from families that believe their loved ones require extra support to make better life choices, and the successful applicants then participate in a Goal Setting Day to begin their Project Booyah journey. 15.01.2022 Did you know we have a gourmet cooking school right here in Cornubia? This evening my husband and I, along with some other local Cornubian's, spent a wonderful evening taking part in an Asian Infusion cooking class at Spice Route Cooking School. This is my second cooking class with Rashmi Jaggi, an amazing cooking teacher, learning traditional Indian cooking skills from her mother and grandmother, and running cooking classes in New Delhi for many years before relocating ...to Australia. She is well-travelled bringing all her food experiences to her cooking classes. Rashmi regularly teaches Indian, south-east Asian and Fusion cooking classes from her beautiful home, and creates a real cooking and dining experience. The food was delicious and it was great to meet and spend the evening getting to know some of our neighbours in Cornubia. An amazing local business bringing our community together. If you are interested in attending one of her classes, Rashmi posts details regularly on her Facebook page. #SpiceRouteCookingSchool #cookingschool #community #ThinkLocalBuyLogan #Division10Logan

15.01.2022 What do you do when the Ekka is cancelled but you want to give your agriculture students the Ekka experience? If you are Calvary Christian College Carbook you host a 'Not Ekka-Ekka Weekend'. Yesterday I was invited to visit and was so impressed by the amazing efforts of all the students and staff who are part of the agricultural program at the school. The show shed was lined with winning show ribbons from previous shows, there were freshly baked scones (baked by the students...), pineapples and grains (grown by the students), fish (bred by the students) and an interactive wool display. Outside the shed was an extensive vegetable garden full of tomatoes, rainbow chard and snow peas; a free-range chicken run with 42 chickens; and in the paddocks Suffolk sheep and alpacas. It was wonderful to talk to the students, farm manager Angela and other staff about the amazing programs they offer to give the students the 'farm to plate' experience, but take it a step further to create a full farming, show and ag science experience. I even got to cuddle a lamb! I look forward to spending more time at the farm in the future! #farmtoplate #CalvaryChristianCollege #Division10Logan

11.01.2022 Have you heard of animal assisted learning? Yesterday I visited Carbrook Animal Assisted Learning Centre, an Independent Special Assistance School which incorporates an animal-assisted learning approach to re-engage students who have been impacted by a variety of factors including mental health, social and emotional difficulties, and the impacts of childhood trauma. It was great spending time with Principal Jo Campbell, other teachers and the amazing group of students. I w...as told about many of the challenges they face and the wonderful teaching programs they use to help each individual student engage in their learning. The Carbrook Animal Assisted Learning and Education Centre was established in January 2013 and is located at Logan City Councils Old Carbrook School. The program is currently home to a number of resident animals including, two horses, two goats, a pig, and four chickens. Native animal species that also call Carbrook home are Wood Ducks, Bees, Water Foul and other bird species. Jo also brings in her dog and today one of the teachers brought in their bearded dragons, which made for a very interesting lesson for the students. 08.01.2022 Have you played Disc Golf at Alexander Clark Park, or noticed the yellow cage-like structures throughout the park and thought to yourself you would like to give it a go? Yesterday I met with the Logan City Disc Golf Club members at Logan Gardens, a great group of guys who were kind enough to teach me how to play. I was amazed by the size, weight and variety of discs used by the players and the skill and accuracy of their throws. The sport is played world-wide and is suit...able for all ages. They have held many events at Alexander Clark Park over the years and I am really keen to see more of our local community use the course. The members offered to hold some community events at Alexander Clark Park (when COVID-19 restrictions are laxed) to teach the community how to play, which is great news. If you would like to give it a go in the meantime there are instructions on how to play at the first tee-off point and you can find out more at https://qlddiscgolf.com/clubs/logancitydgc/ #LoganCityDiscGolfClub #AlexanderClarkPark #community #division10logan Councillor Teresa Lane Div 2 LCC Disc golf is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target; it is played using rules similar to golf. It is usually played on a course with 9 or 18 holes. Players complete a hole by throwing a disc from a tee area toward a target, throwing again from where the previous throw landed, until the target is reached. Usually, the number of throws a player uses to reach each target is tallied, and players seek to complete each hole in the lowest number of total throws.

07.01.2022 What are your thoughts on community gardens? Would you like to see more across our community? As we celebrate National Organic Week, I went and visited the Hyperdome Community Garden, which the community often ask me questions about. This garden is great with raised vegetable garden beds, fruit trees, chickens and access to everything you need for your garden and visit including soil, mulch, compost, water and even seeds. I spoke with Hyperdome Centre Management today abou...t future plans for the garden, as I know the waiting list to use a garden bay can be quite long. The good news is they have advised that the garden is going to be expanded to allow for more raised garden beds for the community to use, they are installing additional signage and looking at the possibility of holding some education sessions at the garden in the future. The community is always welcome to visit between 6am and 6pm and if you would like to find out more please visit the following link, and scroll half way down the page. 01.01.2022 With my middle son Michael graduating from Year 12 today, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the entire Year 12 cohort across our city. The 2020 cohort will be remembered for their resilience, empathy, determination and ability to adapt to change. Not only are you the first to be ranked under the Queensland ATAR and QCE system, which as proven to be challenging in itself, but you have done this during a worldwide pandemic. You have had to adapt quickly t...o the challenges of remote learning, changing social norms, cancellation of sports and special events, and the rescheduling of exams and assessments to make it through to this day. I hope you can all look proudly upon your achievements during a year of so much uncertainty, and I would like to wish you all the success with whatever path you choose! #Classof2020 #youmadeit #community #division10logan
