15.01.2022 Its 1st June! Its Miss Traills mothers birthday! Gertrude Emily Lee was born on 1st June 1861 in Bathurst as the eldest of 11 children of George and Emily Lee. Gertrude married Harold George Traill on 6 February, 1883 at Kelso. They had two children George Windeyer Traill and Ida Gertrude Traill. In 1932, Mrs Gertrude Traill and her daughter Ida rented 321 Russell Street, Bathurst, purchasing it in 1937. When Miss Traill died in 1976, she left the house and its contents to the National Trust. We are so lucky to have this museum treasure in Bathurst.

14.01.2022 Two lovely pear trees either side of the veranda at Miss Traills House and Garden. Planted in the early 1840s, these trees are part of the history of Bathursts only National Trust property at 321 Russell Street. One of them had to have some surgery in 1988, but has recovered well.

10.01.2022 Miss Traills father, Harold George Traill, was born today in 1859 at Kinross, Raymond Terrace, NSW. He married Gertrude Emily Lee on 6 February 1883 in Kelso. Harold died just three days after his 55th birthday on 17 May 1914. Harold and Gertrude had two children George Windeyer Traill and Ida Gertrude Traill who bequeathed 321 Russell Street, Bathurst, to the National Trust. How lucky is Bathurst to have such a wonderful museum as part of its heritage.

03.01.2022 It’s Melbourne Cup Day! Visit Miss Traill’s House and Garden and hear some of the stories about the family’s love of horses. Studio portraits of George and Emily Lee, Miss Traill’s grandparents, hang next to a framed photograph of "Merriwee", the 1899 Melbourne Cup winner. "The Barb", another horse bred at Leeholme by George Lee, reached equestrian heights. He was winner of the Melbourne Cup in 1866, as well as twice winner of the Sydney Cup (1868 and 1869) and other big events. Make sure you include a visit to Miss Traill's House and Garden when you are in Bathurst.

01.01.2022 The Sydney Cup will be run at Randwick Racecourse this afternoon at 3.15 pm for a total prize pool of $1,000,000 but with no spectators! George Lee (Miss Traills grandfather) who built and lived at Leeholme on the OConnell Road, Bathurst, bred The Barb who won the 1868 Sydney Cup AND the 1869 Sydney Cup. In 1870, another George Lee bred horse Barbelle also won the Sydney Cup. This Sydney Cup is stored in a Bank Vault in Bathurst; and displayed at least once a year as part of Miss Traills collection. Fancy, right here in Bathurst, Miss Traills grandfather breeding not one but two horses who won the Sydney Cup THREE times.
