23.01.2022 Today we celebrated National Pyjama Day. We have had a great day whilst also raising money to support children in foster care. What a wonderful way to spend a Friday and end the week. Thanks for everyone for your help and support . Feeling the love this Friday. Our learning experience from today linked to EYLF outcome 2 - as children responded to diversity with respect. They are learning to show care and concern for others.

18.01.2022 This is my most widely shared post. And rightly so, its an important one. These are prewriting patterns, with the average (not prescribed) age at which children are developmentally ready to achieve these patterns listed below them in years and months. Being able to process visual information and produce a movement in response (e.g. copying these prewriting patterns or letter formations), is known as visual motor integration. Note that an X is not typically achieved u...ntil 4 years 11 months, and a triangle at 5 years 3 months. If a child cant form these basic shapes...then they probably wont be able to form letters. It is quite concerning then that there are 3 year 7 month olds starting formal schooling, where theyre expected to write. Not only are their visual motor integration skills not developed enough, their hands are also physically under-developed. In addition, recognising letters, understanding phonics and beginning to read are all needed in order for a child to write meaningfully, skills which children starting kindy typically dont have. We also know that when a child learns something that doesnt hold meaning, its unlikely to stick. So if you have a 3-4 year old who spontaneously asks or attempts to write letters, thats great; otherwise, there is no need to initiate or worry about this. Unfortunately there is a misconception, particularly with the way that the current curriculum stands, that earlier is better. Earlier is not always better. Its been sad, exciting, enjoyable all at the same time We have had an amazing super hero day the kids have loved it the adults enjoyed every aspect too thanks to everyone who took part. As a parent told me this morning I should be so proud of myself and yes I am, and Im so proud of the children too. We have made amazing memories, had great times, sparkles to last a liftetime.
