25.01.2022 So, this was a pretty cool build. A unique custom loft style build on uni-piers, factoring in an extremely undulated block. 18.01.2022 Country living at its all time best for these Harden property owners. This wrap around verandah not only maximizes the spectacular views from every direction, it also finishes the home aesthetically. A verandah also helps keep the home cool in summer which of course minimizes electrical consumption. A traditional method used by many country folk years ago. These awesome spaces also give the kids and the fam bam a cool place to gather for meals, engage with the outdoors as well as a space to skate, ride and have fun for all weather purposes.

18.01.2022 The awesome crew @thebrickpit made little layouts of different brick selections when we were choosing our brick. Which gave us a better visual of the finished product, sometimes something difficult to see from tiny samples and photos. The recycled brick we chose was similar to the first pic here, consisting of some super cool graffiti bricks. We opted to remove the warmer yellow tones to blend better with the @dulux lexicon quarter trims. 18.01.2022 I had such a nostalgic moment today. I was taking out old door seals from this beautiful old home and replacing them (Believe it or not, a home over 35 years old). A one owner home that was built by my dad and my beautiful old late pop, Norm. Two men that I have looked up to. Two men I have adored. And here I am, 35 years later, throwing on a couple of door seals. 18.01.2022 ~ Flooring ~ Flooring is one of those really big decisions you will make in your build. One you really want to spend some time thinking about. Are you going to tile or carpet or use boards or a combination? What sort of tiles or carpet or boards? Budget will be a priority but at the end of the day, it is an investment. One that cops every day foot traffic (and if you have kids and they are anything like mine, your floors will cop scooters and bikes and food and drink spills ...) and a lot of wear and tear so you want to go with something pretty good. Then you really want to get a visual, a little mental scoop of the overall picture with paint and furniture and the overall look youre going for. We went with the stunner board Pale Oak from the super cool Aussie owned and operated @woodcut_aus . 11.01.2022 ~ wardrobes ~ A very client specific part of the build. Completely dependent on the needs of each individual. Some like extravagant luxury and some just want run of the mill functionality. For this open plan wardrobe specifically, aesthetics was of equal value to functionality. There was a heap of drawer space added in along with short and long display hanging space. A bit of display shoe and handbag space was thrown in as well as a closed front facing dress display. 06.01.2022 So we posted about our stove top a few nights back and have since had numerous messages regarding the tap and little high bench. The tap is an awesome pulldown dual spray tap in rose gold from @brodware. It is AMAZING! The high bench went in for a couple of reasons. Firstly we had a larger space between overhead cupboards and bench top, so it helped break up the splash back. It also gave us an extra 150mm in bench space. And well its bloody awesome in helping avoid clutter on your bench top. Flush with the bench, for us, this meant that pots and pans were always stable and less likely to collect a little person. And Its seriously the easiest thing ever to clean. 04.01.2022 ~ Mondays useless information ~ My wife is notorious for flooding a laundry ! She starts to soak something, turns on the taps, walks away, forgets the taps are on and 20 minutes later, floods! So the very first thing that went into our laundry was the overflow in the basin. Cant recommend it enough . ... Some other cool little things to consider, my wife and I are fairly opposed to clothes dryers. Their electrical consumption is huge, and they arent kind on clothes. Mostly we use an outdoor line, but for those good items that you dont want drying in direct sunlight, or for wintery days where nothing wants to dry, if you have the space, an indoor hanging rack is close to the handiest thing you will ever build in. Uniforms straight out of the machine to hanging. Theres less ironing and you save time by hanging straight from laundry to wardrobe. So simple. And even if your laundry is not huge, there are other cool and clever ways such as fold away hanging storage. Check in with your builder it if its not on the plan. The next bit, those super simple pull out laundry baskets. They do a great job of hiding crap. Plus, they are affordable and highly functional storage. *Side note ~ smaller spaces can be equally as functional when you have the right building designer(or architect) and builder. 03.01.2022 When you walk into a modern country home, its just completely radiates warmth. From the hand picked garden roses to subtle v-groove cabinetry. This beautiful little home was built for just the most adorable retired cockies (farmers) who, throughout their build stayed completely true to themselves. To their own values and remained completely uninfluenced by trends. It was such a big move from their wide open spaces. A move that was difficult for them to face in the next phase... of their lives. And Im so honoured that I got to be apart of it with them. At the time of this build, one member was in a wheel chair. It was a short term gig in the chair, but something that really made them have to consider the idea of disabled accesses and openings, hand rails etc. All the really important stuff that gives you the opportunity to live in your own home as comfortably and as long as possible after retirement and into your more elderly years. So if you are retired and contemplating a build or Reno, do factor that in. 01.01.2022 So my wife has an obsession with pendant lights. You seriously have no idea how many bloody pendant fittings I had to allow for in the electrical plan . Anyways, Ive got to live with her, so you know, let her do her thing . And as it turns out, it appears she had a slight idea what she was doing. We have some pretty cool ones hanging about throughout the house . And over the years I have hung some really cool ones that can certainly be a real feature in the home. That ge...ts me to thinking about electrical. When youre building (especially new) or if youve started building already, you have to be thinking ahead and visualizing the placement of lights, pendants, how many of them (not too many, not too few) etc AND THEN where are the best spots for the switches. At which doorway. On the inside or on the outside. Then, where will be the most functional position in the home for all your powerpoints and how many will you need.
