25.01.2022 Community Support Hey guys, here is your chance to have a voice to help Mitcham Thunder and other local sports out by petitioning for more local sports stadiums. Whitehorse is struggling to cater for the increase in sports activity, especially if you are a new club. The great new hub that was built recently has already been filled with previous organisations from their old venue. This leaves us and lots of other clubs still is the same position. Waiting for more ... availability. So, now we have a chance to have a say in the future of Silver Grove Nunawading, so I encourage everyone to spare a minute to put forward and have a say to seek more basketball stadiums that can be shared with other clubs in the same boat. Thank you for your support and hopefully we will back on court very soon and get back to normality. PS please feel free to share

24.01.2022 Unfortunately 2020 is a challenging year and everything that is happening can only make us stronger. Basketball is having a break and winter season 2020 has been cancelled. We can only hope that once summer season approaches the virus is behind us and we can go back to norm. Hopefully we can introduce some skills training and possible game practise once restriction eases and we are allowed back on court, sometime during term 3. We will keep everyone posted.... Our free junior program will also return as soon as we are allowed. In the mean time stay safe and don't forget if you every feel you need to talk to someone, reach out. We are all here for each other

24.01.2022 Update: A small percentage of clubs under EDJBA are opening up registration for a November 28th start, Mitcham Thunder and a few other clubs are not jumping the gun just yet as retricition are very complex and we need to have 14 days with zero cases straight. On top of that we have been notified by our local school that the education department are very hesitant and until they get the all clear then they cannot even allow training on outside courts at this given time. But rest assure we have got the ball rolling and have set up registration under the new PlayerHQ system ready for the sign. So, as our friends the Ringwood Hawks say below, get ready and dust 'em off.

21.01.2022 Stay safe and look after yourselves during stage 4 restrictions and remember we are all in this together. Don't forget to reach out if in need.

21.01.2022 So, it looks like masks are here to stay for some time. We have been made an offer to have these masks made for us from a local Melbourne company. The cost to us is $8.50. per mask. The masks are cotton inside, polyester outside. ... Would anyone be interested in buying any? We would have to post them so it would be probably $10 per mask including postage. We're not out to make a profit from this. We just think it's cute and it helps out a local company.

20.01.2022 Hey guys, just some update news to clarify a few messages we are receiving lately in regards to our Saturday competition. We are looking at sending out, instead of a registration link (as we still haven’t been given 100% approval that basketball will be allowed by the next announce) a google document to get expressions of interest. I have spoken to the education department this morning and as it stands from today basketball in schools stadiums is still not allowed as it is c...lassified as contact sport. But, we will be updated when changes are made. Please have a look out more details in your inbox. Go Thunder

19.01.2022 WABC Feature Coaching Clinics Series are back! 18.01.2022 Just wanted to send a shoutout to a great Victorian family owned business. Dyson Group are a family owned bus company which has been operating in Victoria since 1952. They offer community grants and we have been lucky enough to be chosen in their latest round. Dyson have given us $1000 which we will use for equipment to help make our free beginners program even better.... Thanks so much Dyson Group for going above and beyond to help clubs and groups like ours.

15.01.2022 Registration for midweek summer season is now opened. Please get in touch if you are interested. Registration is only $125 and that aldo covers game fees.

14.01.2022 Hi All, Just an update for those who may have heard whispers around the basketball families. As you may be all aware we still don’t have easing of restrictions for indoor sports, there will be some updates on Sunday so everything will depend on what the outcome will be.... So, in the meantime EDJBA are pencilling in return by end of November BUT Nunawading Basketball Club are a little more cautious and prefer not to set dates until we get some indication from the government. An email will be sent out today to all members with information. We are slowly getting back to some normality and hopefully soon our lovely children will be able to run up and down our courts again. Have a great long weekend and for all the footy fans the best of luck for both teams, but it would be great for another Tigers win.

10.01.2022 Sorry Guys, there has been a change since last nights post. EDJBA have decided that: Dear Club Presidents , As you would all be aware, on Sunday, the Victorian Government made significant announcements regarding the relaxation of restrictions. Since then, Basketball Victoria has also updated its Return to Sport status to COVID-Safe (Green-100). This is fantastic news for our sport, however the EDJBA had made the decision proceed with caution for the remaining games in 2020.... As such, the EDJBA will remain operating under ‘Orange-50’ guidelines with only a few minor tweaks to what was enforced throughout the first two weeks, namely to masks & spectators in U20’s. Although one of the aspects of Green-100 is that spectator limits can increase, the EDJBA has made the decision to keep this capped at one spectator per player with this rule now included for the U20’s competition. The EDJBA and member clubs have worked extremely hard with school facilities and third party venues to ensure that the EDJBA operates in a COVID safe manner, and as such we need to ensure we protect the safety of our members and venues as a priority. There is also a slight tweak to the ruling on masks. Players, Referees & Coaches are not required to wear masks during games however those aged 12 and up must wear on entry and exit of stadium where social distancing cannot be maintained. For all other patrons, masks are recommended unless medically exempt. All other rulings of Orange-50 that have been in place across the first two rounds will still be enforced for the remaining games of 2020 and can be highlighted in the table below. This includes the mandatory requirement for BSOs. These guidelines, although different from the current Basketball Victoria Return to Sport Status, will be reviewed in the new year, with the hope to open up more in 2021. These directives will be placed on our website and on social media over the coming days. EDJBA

10.01.2022 Push Cross to Speed Stop Drill - give this a go at home!

07.01.2022 Due to the announcement from the Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews yesterday afternoon with Metropolitan Melbourne going back to the stage 3 restrictions, the E...DJBA Committee of Management has had no choice but to cancel the Winter 2020 season which was proposed to begin next Saturday, July 18th. The EDJBA will work through the next steps and to what this exactly means for Summer 2020/21 over the coming weeks. Whilst it is extremely disappointing that we may not see competition for a while, the health and safety of all our members is paramount whilst we try and slow the spread of COVID-19 in Victoria. During this next 6 weeks, please stay safe, stay connected and hopefully we will see kids back on court soon.

06.01.2022 A big thanks to Jellis Craig Whitehorse for their continued sponsorship of our local club over the past year. They certainly have had a busy year through some trying times as the clip shows

06.01.2022 Yesterday was R U OK? Day, but any day is a good day to ask our friends, family and team mates whether they’re OK. This awesome graphic gives some great tips on how to continue the conversation after asking R U OK?

06.01.2022 Thanks Prue for giving us an update and all your work and support. We look forward to our new adventure at the new Hub, we also would like to express our gratitude to Whitehorse council for giving us this opportunity.

06.01.2022 Some light training to prepare.

05.01.2022 Who would like to help out next year?

05.01.2022 How many of us (or shall I say, the chldren who play) miss basketball? Who would believe that late March was the last time we set foot on a court? A lot has happened since then. Winter was looking like a possibility, but then the rug was pulled from underneath us. ... So, we are again looking at the possibility of returning to courts for a summer season. Exactly when will depend on a few factors, including of course the covid numbers. But, we can plan once again and see where it leads us. EDJBA are looking for your thoughts on two possibilities: 1. One option is a traditional structure with games prior to Christmas, the regular Christmas / new year break, then returning late January. 2. The other, since we can't really travel anywhere, has games also being played on January 9th, 16th and 23rd. This option is what EDJBA are looking for your feedback on. Please feel free to share your thoughts here or by emailing me at [email protected]. Cheers. Chris.

02.01.2022 So, after today's announcement we are still in the dark about upcoming basketball but don't be alarmed we hope to hear from Basketball Victoria tomorrow. Sorry for short notice in regards to possibility of returning to courts this upcoming saturday but going with 2020 tradition, everything is a mystery. We will get in touch asap to all our EDJBA members.

02.01.2022 We would like to thank Molten Australia for supplying our Saturday teams each with a Molten ball to use at training. Some positive to come back to after a long break from basketball. Only a few more days left until we to get the final word on what the future holds for basketball returning to full capacity. Bring on Sunday.
