10.01.2022 Whilst National NAIDOC week 2020 has been officially postponed until 8-15 November, last week we continued our planned incursion from Bunyaville Environmental Education Centre. We welcomed Kim and Julie, who along with school staff Harry and Erin, engaged our students with Yulunga - Traditional Indigenous Games. In the language of the Kamilaroi (Gamori) people of northwestern New South Wales, Yulunga means playing Yulunga combines curriculum principles and cultural traditi...ons in sport-related activities for people of all ages, while ensuring the integrity of traditional games. Our staff and students had a wonderful time learning about traditional Indigenous culture - we would like to thank Kim and Julie, Harry and Erin and all of our amazing students and staff! See more

09.01.2022 Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We strive towards a more just, equitable nation by championing unity and mutual respect as we come together and connect with one another. On this journey, Australians are all In This Together; every one of us has a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.
08.01.2022 Dear parents and guardians I am delighted to invite all Mitchelton Special School students to join in the 2020 Premiers Reading Challenge. Thank you to our Pedagogical Coach, Viola Stefano for facilitating this event. Reading plays an important part in students lives during their school years and beyond. It allows children to actively engage their imagination and opens up a world of educational opportunities. ... Last year, 168,000 students from 937 schools took part in the challenge, reading an astounding 2.31 million books. What an incredible result. The reading period for the 2020 Premier's Reading Challenge commences on Monday 11 May and closes Friday 28 August. Experiencing books can include shared reading, listening to stories, or reading picture books. The aim for the 2020 challenge is to engage more students reading more books than ever before. Class teachers will be sending home a reader record sheet for you to complete with your child. They will also be tallying the reading that is happening in the classroom! For more information about the Premiers Reading Challenge, please visit: readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au You can play a big part in your childrens future by encouraging them to be part of this positive initiative. I look forward to seeing as many of our students as possible take part in the 2020 Premiers Reading Challenge. Sarah
