25.01.2022 What does it mean to be "present" during prayer? What is the significance of the various body movements in salah? What is the fundamental nature of witnessing God when we worship? Want to learn about the meanings of the Islamic ritual prayer? The Inner Dimensions of Prayer with Dr. Samir Mahmoud covers the various aspects and mysteries of the ritual prayer and how they relate to contemporary life. Structured as a series of five sessions, the course looks at key terms and phra...ses including presence, the heart and their centrality in the ritual prayer. It covers the meaning of salat and the prayers of humans as well as the prayers of angels and creatures. Exploring the significance of intentions is followed by looking at the importance of purification of the body as well as the heart. The start of the ritual prayer is then understood through its movements, the role of the body, eye, hands and feet as well as the inner significance of these movements. The course then moves on to the importance of recitation of the Divine word before concluding with a session on the fundamental nature of witnessing God and the crucial role of imagination in prayer. 25.01.2022 O Allah, send prayers upon our master and patron Muhammad, the possessor of the crown, the Mi’raj, the Buraq and the flag, the repeller of hardships, epidemics, droughts, diseases and pain. His name is written, exalted, combined and engraved upon the tablet and pen. The master of both Arabs and non-Arabs, whose body is sanctified, fragrant, pure and illuminated in the House and the Sanctuary. He is the bright sun, the full moon of the dark night, the foremost in loftiness, th...e light of guidance, the cave of refuge for mankind, the lantern in darkness. He is of beautiful character, the intercessor for nations, the possessor of graciousness and generosity. Allah is his protector, Gabriel his servant, the Buraq his mount, the Mi’raj his voyage, the Lote Tree of the Uppermost Limit his station, two bows’ length or nearer the object of his quest; that which is sought is that which he desires and that which he desires is that which he finds. He is the master of the Messengers, the Seal of the Prophets, the intercessor of sinners, the comforter of strangers, the mercy for the worlds, the delight of divine lovers, the object of yearning, the sun of the gnostics, the lamp for travellers upon the path to Allah, the lantern of those brought near, the lover of the poor, the strangers and the destitute. The master of the two weighty things (humans and Jinn), the Prophet of the two sanctuaries, the Imam of the two Qiblas, our means of salvation in both abodes, the one at two bows length, the beloved of the Lord of the two Easts and the two Wests, the grandfather of Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn, our protector and the protector of the two worlds, the Father of Qasim, Muhammad, the son of Abdullah, a light from the light of Allah. O you who yearns for the light of his beauty, invoke abundant blessings and peace upon him, his family and Companions. #RabiAwwal #ProphetMuhammadSAW #OurProphet #Mawlid #ProphetOfMercy #Salawat

23.01.2022 How to Introduce Prayer to Children. - Dr Samir Mahmoud

23.01.2022 The lights from his light are drowned in his light And his faces shines out like the sun and moon in one. A spirit of light lodged in a body like the moon,... A mantle made up of brilliant shinning stars. I bore it until I could bear it no longer. I found the taste of patience to be like better aloes. I could find no remedy to bring me relief Other than delighting in the sigh of the one I love. Even if he had not brought any clear signs with him, The sight of him would dispense with the need for them. Muhammad is a human being but not like other human beings. Rather he is a flawless diamond and the rest of mankind is just stones. Blessings be on him so that perhaps Allah may have mercy on us. . . 22.01.2022 Hallowed be He in Whose hand is all dominion, Who has power over every thing, the One Who created death and life to try youwhich of you shall be most beautiful in deeds. And He is the Almighty, the Forgiving! (al-Mulk 67:1-2). The deeds that we author into our lives are the material manifestation of the spiritual health of our hearts. Beauty that exudes is an extension of the heart’s soundness, while injustice is every indication of imbalance in the heart. Our mother, Lad...y ishah, narrated from the Prophet that the archangel Jibrl once told him that Allah said, The heavens and the earth cannot encompass Me, but the heart of My faithful servant encompasses Me! In truth, the heart cannot be reminded that it is meant to be the dwelling of the One Who animates it, for its very life cycle is an unceasing invocation of His Name between contraction and expansionAl-lh, Al-lh, Al-lh. His nearness is to all hearts, but He only dwells in those hearts whose chambers are aesthetically ornate with the hues of faith. The Prophet guaranteed Paradise to a man whose one salvific deed was the state of his heart: he would not sleep before removing every trace of enmity, rancor, or anger against anyone who crossed him that day! We have partnered with Lanturna, that we may vacate our hearts of anything that would not welcome our Lord’s dwelling, and to color our deeds with the strokes of beauty, the very test of our deaths and our lives. 21.01.2022 Spiritual Cultivation with Shaykh Hassan Elsetohy. Selections from the Book of Wisdom by Shaykh Ibn Ata'illah al-Iskandari. Muslim religious life consists not only of belief in orthodox tenets of faith and a determined effort to follow the Sacred Law, but it also requires one to scale the heights of Islamic spirituality by attaining the states of the heart demanded by the Islamic revelation. ... The Book of Wisdom (Kitab al-Hikam) of Shaykh Ibn Ata'illah al-Iskandari (d. 1309) is a famous and respected explanation of the journey of Islamic spirituality (known simply as 'the Path' or 'the Way'), with the Qur'an and the Sunna as the determiners of the principles contained therein. Although the work contains treatises and supplications, the essential core of the work is to be found in the author's collection of spiritual aphorisms (264 in total). . . 19.01.2022 The Book of Illumination (One of the texts Ustadh Ubaydullah will be using) addresses concerns of contemporary audiences. The text offers deep insight into topics crucial to many people who are exploring spirituality in the age of late capitalism with its consumer-driven economics and endless production of new desires and proliferation of choices. Though thoroughly medieval in its subtle elaboration on the richness of scripture and its belief in the efficacy of sainthood, T...he Illumination is also uniquely contemporary in its piercing critique of selfish desire and rational calculation. The argument of this thirteenth century Muslim author articulates an Islamic work ethic that challenges many sociological assumptions of Max Weber while simultaneously dissecting many assumptions of our contemporary consumerist culture whose triumph Weber had announced with such ambivalence. 09.01.2022 Why did Allah conceal Laylat al-Qadr? He could have made it a specific night so people could be completely prepared for it. But it is concealed in order that the believer remains in a state of anticipation awaiting and hoping for the bounty of Allah. Thus his connection to Allah is not based upon one specific time which comes and goes and then he turns away from Allah and gets on with something else. This is the divine wisdom.... Furthermore that anticipation of Allah’s bounty nurtures a state of knowledge of Allah in the heart the more you turn to Him, the more you seek His pleasure, the more you hope for His gifts the more light increases in your heart. Allah says in the hadith qudsi: I am as my servant perceives Me. The more you think good of Him, the more good grows in your heart; the more you believe He will give you, the more He will give you. This develops and nurtures your relationship with Allah which is the secret behind Laylat al-Qadr, the secret behind Ramadan and the secret behind every act of worship. 09.01.2022 To help strengthen our hearts to deal with the pain we all feel as a community, we will gather together and call upon Allah collectively. O Allah, you are all the All-Knower, the All-Seer and All-Hearer. To You we Seek help and solace for all things. Isha prayer will be offered at Auburn mosque next door. Lead by Shaykh Ahmed Abdo who will provide reminders and reflections, we will gather and recite Quran and make du'a. The Dua Nasiri is a highly potent du’a by the renowned S...haykh Muhammad Ibn Nasir. It was recited across Morocco and inspired resistance to the French occupation. It was so powerful that the French President had to issue an order banning its recitation from the mosques. We will be reciting together for all our oppressed brothers and sisters around the world including those suffering in Palestine, Burma, Syria, Yemen, India, Afghanistan, and the Ughyur people. "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffered, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever" (Al Bukhari and Muslim). Register via https://prayersfortheoppressed.eventbrite.com.au

08.01.2022 To be present with one's entire being (the heart) at every moment to the Divine Presence is to be a child of the present moment. This is the ideal state to be in. There is neither a future upon which we project ourselves in terms of dreams and hopes nor a past upon which we project our doubts and fears but rather a here and now vertically linking us to the Divine in a perpetual present. - Dr Samir Mahmoud

05.01.2022 When is Laylat al-Qadr? There is a long standing difference of opinion about when Laylat al-Qadr is, because it is of those matters whose certain knowledge has been lifted by Allah Most High from this Ummah, for the wisdom that people strive to seek it: The scholars generally agreed that it is most likely to be in the last ten nights of Ramadan, with the odd nights being more likely, and the 27th night the most likely out of the odd nights. Imam Shafi`i said that it is most l...ikely to be the 21st, then the 23rd, then the 27th. Imam Nawawi followed the position of Imam Muzani and Imam Ibn Khuzayma that it moves around within the last ten nights.
