06.01.2022 Lockdown PTSD I heard this term yesterday. A Melbourne Psychologist was being interviewed on ABC News and she said that this is where we are headed. And unfortunately I would have to agree When lockdown was announced Thursday morning the txt messages started coming through. Clients asking if I had available counselling sessions in the next few days and into next week. I am always happy to help if I can... Come Friday the txt messages and voicemails I was getting were ones of distress. One client presenting to the GP with chest pains, another with a panic attack and a parent up most of the night with a distressed child-anxious about home schooling. My advice for that parent, if need be let the home schooling go for the week. Mental Health is more important at this stage of the game. And me? Well my night terrors (or night panic attacks) are back Melbourne we are experiencing a collective trauma via lockdown #4. Another lockdown is re-traumatising for the vast majority of the population. It creates stress and anxiety. It effects mood and sleep. It also impacts relationships and effects children’s learning If you or your family are struggling there is support available. Whilst Support Services are busy many are still offering Telehealth and face to face sessions. As an essential health service I am open and offering face to face, Telehealth and Walk and Talk sessions. And I do have some limited availability this coming week-due to some clients choosing to cancel and kids classes being on hold. Telephone support services are also available. These are free and confidential. You can also remain anonymous Telephone support numbers *Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636 *Beyond Blue Corona Virus Support Line 1800 512 348 *Lifeline 131114 *1800 Respect 1800 737 732 *Mensline 1300 78 99 78 *AOD Support 1800 888 236 *Kidshelpline 1800 55 1800 I also have a link that will give you a 4wk free subscription to the Calm app. Please DM to have this link sent to you. 04.01.2022 Kids Mindfulness My darling Thursday group So many emotions yesterday The children were so very keen to talk all about how they felt about being suddenly plunged into a 7day lockdown ... Children told us that they were angry sad surprised worried happy Children shared that they were worried about home learning and not seeing friends, missing things like birthday parties and sports. There were also some kids who were looking forward to lockdown as it means late nights, sleep ins, more time with parents and more time on iPads Please check in with your kids. This is a tough time for our littles And don’t forget in the absence of Kids Mindfulness next week, I do have a Kids Mindfulness YouTube Channel and a kids podcast.
