24.01.2022 Australias leading the way to bring live music back.

24.01.2022 How did Carpenter Rocks get its name? In October 1800 Nicolas Baudin was selected by Napoleon Bonaparte of France to lead what has become known as the Baudin ex...pedition to map the coast of Australia (New Holland). He had two ships, Géographe and Naturaliste captained by Hamelin, and a suite of nine zoologists and botanists. Baudin left France on 19 October 1800 and reached Australia in May 1801, He explored and mapped the little-known southern coast of Australia. On 4 April 1802 he made the following inscription in his ship's journal when sailing past modern-day Carpenter Rocks: Along the beach, we could make out a continuous line of rocks which stretched a little way out to sea and over which the breakers pounded with extraordinary force. "The Rocks", he named "Les Carpentiers" meaning "The Carpenters", referring to their indented and serrated nature, which reminded Baudin of a carpenters saw. Other familiar places named by Baudin include, Fleurieu Peninsula, Cape Jaffa, Guichen Bay (Robe), Lacepede Bay, and Rivoli Bay with a further forty-three names between Adelaide and Esperance. One of my favourite pass times is to read Baudin's ships journal, of which an English copy exists in the Less Hill section of the Mount Gambier Library. One of the highlights was when in April 1802 Baudin encountered the British ship Investigator commanded by Matthew Flinders, also engaged in charting the coastline, at Encounter Bay. The surprise of an unaware Englishman and Frenchman running into each other in a remote uncharted part of the world to chart it! See more

18.01.2022 MAYOR'S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE My Christmas message this year is one of gratitude and hope. The events of this year have been challenging and it is with enormous p...ride that our community has faced these challenges with compassion, generosity, resilience and flexibility. At the beginning of the year, SA had a number of severe bushfires and the community rallied to assist those who had been affected by supporting the Dollars for Doonas project. Even with the fundraising events being cancelled, the whole community’s generosity was fantastic which enabled the donation of bedding to all South Australians who had lost their homes. The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic has impacted us all and I say thank you to everyone in our district for the way you have been compliant with the directions given by the State Government and worked together to keep our community safe. Sincere thanks go to all our health workers during these stressful times. Thank you to the police, defence personnel and the border communities who have been most impacted and supported the border personnel. We must be grateful for living in such a wonderful country and district and I hope that next year the Coronavirus will be controlled and we will be able to live our lives without the restrictions that have been so necessary this year. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas, a restful and joyous holiday break and a safe and healthy New Year. Mayor Erika Vickery OAM, Naracoorte Lucindale Council

17.01.2022 Are you planning an interstate trip, or expecting a visit from friends and family who live across the border? Here are some useful tips to ensure we maintain th...e health and safety of everyone in SA. It's great that we are getting back to doing the things we love, but it's everyone's responsibility to be COVID Safe.

17.01.2022 COVID-19 Emergency Act extension passes State Parliament Overnight The Marshall Governments COVID-19 Emergency Response Act has been extended to until the 6th of February 2021, or 28 days after the COVID-19 Emergency Direction expires whichever comes first after a vote in State Parliament last night. The legislation is another component of the State Governments strong plan to deal with both the health and economic impacts of COVID-19, said Attorney-General Vickie Chapma...n. The legislation restricts rent increases for tenants and the ability of landlords to terminate lease agreements. Its telling that the Labor Party sought to have these protections cut by Christmas despite the ongoing impact of the pandemic on families, businesses and the wider community. Provisions to continue under the legislation include: Those involving commercial leases; Restrictions on rent increases, as well as breaches and terminations of tenancy agreements involving financial hardship due to the coronavirus for residential tenancies, residential parks and supported residential facilities; The use of virtual visits by the Community Visitor; Alternative methods of signing and witnessing documents. We have ended the provisions covering water and sewerage charges for sporting clubs, given the establishment of a grants scheme to support those clubs, said Attorney-General Chapman. Also, to ensure that measures aimed at protecting residential tenants are not exploited, we have narrowed the focus of the Act so that the prohibition on rental increases only applies if the tenant is experiencing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. These and other provisions that remain in effect will help ensure support for business and those vulnerable members of our community. The legislation provides for a seamless transition of Directions in the event that the Emergency Management Committee determines that the COVID-19 pandemic is more appropriately managed as a public health matter as opposed to an emergency response.

17.01.2022 EXTENDING TELEHEALTH SERVICES Our Government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic helped to bring forward a 10-year plan on telehealth within 10 days. Now, more... than $2 billion has been invested to extend a range of COVID-19 health measures, including telehealth. 15.01.2022 Hello.. Its been a while since our last post. For those that arent aware Jessica & Russell Hooper are walking from Port MacDonnell to Mount Gambier this wee...kend (Sunday 27th of September) to raise some much-needed funds for Brain Cancer research. Many people dont know brain cancer kills more children than any other disease in Australia. It kills more people under 40 than any other cancer. Yet there is very little known about Brain Cancer, its causes or how to treat it.Only 1 in 5 people with Brain Cancer survive past 5 years. In 2014 Max started showing signs of being a very sick little boy, our lives changed overnight when he was diagnosed with his tumour. His little body started to decline very quickly. He became very lethargic and his body became paralysed down his left side. His body could only handle walking a few steps and he needed the assistance of a wheelchair; we had no idea that he would make it to the end of the year let alone now getting close to 6 years. We are very lucky, we are blessed every single day that he is still here with us. But there are so many families that arent so lucky, which is why this research is so important. As a community we can help change these statistics. Any donation no matter how big or how small helps. https://my.walk4braincancer.com.au/w/the-bay-to-burger-run https://www.facebook.com/events/702714667123469?acontext=%7B%22event_action_history%22%3A[%7B%22mechanism%22%3A%22search_results%22%2C%22surface%22%3A%22search%22%7D]%7D

08.01.2022 SE S Ts D::N D 2 B L As Repeatedly stated by SAFA, and continually emphasised by fmr MRFAC chair Graham Keegan, tags have never wo...rked as a fair method in Fisheries management. Tags are only used to "throttle" and "restrict" the recreational catch by stealth. Even PIRSA has now embraced this "reality" by announcing for the 2020 SE season, the recl sector only took 1.2% of the total catch (750kg), while commercials bagged out on the remaining 98.8% (61,000kg). The recl sector is entitled to 19%. All in all an absolute disgrace. Fortunately the persistence of Graham Keegan (SAFA), as the rec sector's only representative on the Snapper Management Advisory Committee saw commonsense and anglers' rights triumph for the forthcoming 2021 season. Mr Keegan (fmr MRFAC chair), is also saddened that the MRFAC's call to immediately shut down the fishery, when the banned was announced, rather than waiting, allowed the commercials to remove a further 100 irreplaceable tonnes of snapper. Unfortunately groups like RFSA refused to support the MRFAC push to save vital snapper biomass during this short interim period, and the "save our snapper" attempt was not accepted. , | | | Bag and boat limits for recreational anglers targeting snapper will be reintroduced in the South-East for the 2021 season. The move follows the failure of a trial program using tags to control fishing, with just 392 or 12.9 per cent of the 3030 tags issued in a lottery to recreational anglers used this year. Under the new system, recreational anglers fishing in the South-East zone will have a daily bag limit of two snapper and a boat limit of six. Those catching snapper will also face mandatory reporting of their catch on a PIRSA Recreational Fishing App. A total allowable catch (TAC) for the fishery has been set at 26,666kg, with the recreational catch set at 4800kg 2667kg of that for the charter boat fishery. Once the TAC has been reached, snapper fishing will be closed for the recreational sector. At the request of the charter boat sector, its catches will continue to be managed with the use of tags that will be transferable within the industry. The move follows a recommendation from the Minister’s Recreational Fishing Advisory Council (MRFAC) to dump the tag system and reintroduce bag and boat limits for the south east season that runs between February 1 and October 31. Snapper fishing remains banned in all other state waters until early 2023. Fisheries Minister David Basham said the new management arrangements would make snapper fishing in the south east more accessible for more people, while ensuring stocks remain sustainable. Anyone who plans on heading out to catch a snapper will need to download the Recreational Fishing App and is required to report any catches, he said yesterday. Former MRFAC member Graham Keegan, pictured, who is still a member of the Snapper Management Advisory Committee, said the tag trial should never have been held. The MRFAC warned the previous minister that harvest tags-style management was draconian and doomed to failure; it has failed every time it has been trialled in other states, he said.

The driver refused to stop and was not pursued for safety reasons. Fast forward to summer and this geological wonder turns into a swimming hotspot for Limestone Coast locals, with calm cobalt waters perfect for lounging on your lilo. For now though, we'll settle for this green and blue epic view!' - South Australia via IG @mitch.toft | http://ow.ly/rRkl50Bwggg
