25.01.2022 This week the students in Year 4 received a gift of a Flanders Poppy plant from Ray Gribben, a local Moama resident with a passion for plants. The plants have been grown from seeds for each of the Year 4 students in preparation for Remembrance Day. If the students care well for the plants, they will flower in time for Remembrance Day. Thank you so much Ray for this generous and thoughtful gift for our students!

23.01.2022 The Year 5s have spent the last term practicing their jump rope AND fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart 2020. As well as being a great way for kids to get outside and get active, Jump Rope for Heart raises money for vital heart research and education programs. So far they have raised $6,500 which is impressive given that COVID restrictions have not allowed them to go out physically to raise money. If you’d like to donate, visit their Jump Rope page: https://www.jumprope.org.au//schools/moama-anglican-gramma The student’s had their jump off day last week and worked hard on this great video, with the assistance of Miss Briggs. Well done Year 5 what a fantastic effort!

22.01.2022 Congratulations to our School Chaplain, Tim Bowles, who was ordained in the Anglican Church as a Deacon last Saturday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions on events, Tim has been waiting more than 6 months for the big day. Tim has been part of the MAG family for 14 years and always finds meaningful ways to share the Christian faith in the school setting. We celebrated with him at morning tea last week prior to the ordination, where he was presented with a hand-made stole by Principal Spry and Rev. George Hemmings.

22.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all to stay connected and, for those who are able, be willing to support those around us. This morning, on R U OK?Day, colourful and supportive chalk messages popped up all around the school - reminding students and staff to take the time to check on loved ones, and that there is more to say after 'R U OK?'. https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day #rukok2020

19.01.2022 This week the incoming Kinder students had their first kinder transition session with Mrs Ripon and Mrs Reid. There was lots of excitement and just a few tears as the children took the first steps on their schooling journey. Our biggest warm welcome to the new Kinders - we can't wait to have you with us next year.

19.01.2022 When we think of summer in Australia, we can't help but think of cricket. And it's no different here at MAG. Primary students are focusing on cricket skills in PDHPE over the past few weeks, while on Tuesdays Mr Hall is taking the older students over to the nets at lunchtimes. Look out for details and photos of the Cricket Australia initiative, 'The Mascot Challenge' that Mr Harris has been leading with the K-1s in tomorrow's newsletter.

18.01.2022 The uniform shop is open in the second week of the term break at the following times: Tuesday 29 September: 8.30am - 10am Thursday 1 October: 2pm - 4pm... Earlier in the year we trialed shorts and/or skorts as an option for female students. This was very successful and we have now incorporated these into the summer uniform as an option. We will notify you when they become available in the uniform shop. We are using a one in/one out system in the shop to ensure effective social distancing is observed. If you already know what size you need, we suggest that you use the online order form - https://bit.ly/2RpKWgD Completed forms can be sent to: [email protected]

17.01.2022 The Year 7's have been canoeing on the Murray as part of the Year 7 PDHPE curriculum. Mr Cadd and the team have been bussing students down to Moama beach where they have explored many skills associated with canoeing and water safety over the past three weeks.

17.01.2022 -- Where Are They Now? -- Billi Johns is another Moama Anglican graduate who has found herself back in the MAG school yard, five years after departing. Billi graduated in 2015 after beginning in Year 7 at MAG. Following a gap year, Billi went to Federation University in Ballarat to embark upon a Bachelors of Health and PE. Now in her final year, she has just finished up a teaching placement at MAG. While Billi has always been a passionate sports-person, excelling in netball ...in particular, it took her HSC PE teacher to help her realise that she could turn this passion into a career. You would make a really great PE teacher, these words stuck with Billi and the positive reinforcement was all she needed to set upon a career path to become a teacher. Being away at university in Ballarat has really brought home to Billi how much she wants to have a career and life based in Echuca-Moama, where she can be around her friends and family and enjoy the country lifestyle. Billi advises current senior students to take a breath and stay positive, Tell yourself that everything will turn out fine! Don’t stress too much and make the most of your teachers knowledge and experiencethey are there to support you.

16.01.2022 Off to a chilly start at CIS Cross Country this morning in Sydney, 5 degrees! Good luck to students participating, we look forward to hearing the results.

16.01.2022 The Year 7 Visual Arts classes have been busy creating ceramic donuts inspired by artist Jae Yong Kim. They were asked to design and create a donut with icing that represented their personalities. Check out some of their fantastic designs.

15.01.2022 Our Year 10 Science students have been using the School's new Fitness Centre under the guidance of Ms Bri Bennett (Head of PDHPE) to study the heart recovery rate after doing different activities, as a part of their Science Student Research Project. This hands-on experience is a valuable learning opportunity as they study cross curricular topics with real life applications.

14.01.2022 Our talented Year 7's have completed their COVID portraits. After making a wearable COVID mask the students were then asked to draw and paint a self portrait wearing them. Check out some of the wonderful works by our Year 7 Visual Arts class, can you guess who is behind the mask?

14.01.2022 Though it’s term break, there’s still activity at the School. During this down time, we are doing quite a bit of maintenance around the School; extending the basketball court area in the senior school, concreting the area where primary students wait for the bus, and installing a suspended ceiling to improve acoustics in the TAS building.

14.01.2022 Well done to our primary students, especially Year 1 and Mrs Cowin - strengthening the important ties with our community members.

13.01.2022 It was Year 5 and Year 6's turn to attend a mini assembly on Wednesday in the primary school. Certificates of achievement and ICAS awards were handed out, Year 6's were recognized for their excellent behavior whilst on camp, and three Year 5 students received certificates of appreciation for all the work they put in to the Jump Rope for Heart campaign. Well done, everyone!

12.01.2022 Our Snr Drumline have been sorely missing the chance to perform in public throughout this year. So it was a big deal when they got to strut their stuff at the Moama Recreation Reserve's Open Night last Friday. Well done to the Drumline and to Mr Kiely!

11.01.2022 -- Meet the Team Monday -- Stacey Briggs never saw herself as particularly mathematically minded as a student, but now as MAGs Primary Numeracy Coordinator, she has found a love for maths that she never dreamt she’d have. Stacey grew up in Albury and Bega before completing a Bachelor of Education at the University of Wollongong, followed later by a Masters of Education (Teaching of the Gifted and Talented) at the University of New England. In between she taught at Scone Gram...mar in the Hunter Valley for 4 years and volunteered at the Sparrow School in Johannesburg, South Africa. After experiencing a very different life in Africa, Stacey returned to Australia to commence work at Moama Anglican Grammar, where she’s now been teaching for 7 years. Committed to continually improving her skills, she’s begun a second master’s degree this time in Leadership and Management as a means to build her skills in the Numeracy Coordinator role, strengthen her theoretical background and understand how to get the best out of people. I love igniting children’s love for maths, and seeing them relax and find beauty in itthe best thing is seeing those ‘light-bulb’ moments, when kids suddenly click with the math. Stacey’s Year 5 class has been raising money for Jump Rope for Heart the Year 5 classes combined have raised an amazing $6,400 so far. Keep watching for another post with more details of their amazing achievement.

11.01.2022 Farewell and thank you to Jenna Hildebrand who just finished her 7-week final teaching placement at Moama Anglican Grammar. Jenna has been working in the secondary school and received a lovely gift and speech from Ms Bush and her Year 8 class on Friday. Thank you for all of your commitment and enthusiasm, Jenna!

11.01.2022 Our 'Name the Lamb' competition is back for 2021! Christy the Dohne Merino ewe from our Primary Industries program gave birth to a beautiful little lamb on the 10th of May and we need help naming her! Comment below to enter ... The winner will receive a $50 Three Black Sheep Moama voucher and a Meet and Greet with the lamb at the School Farm. Competition closes 24 June.

10.01.2022 Some colorful moments captured during our Footy Colours Day last week. In addition to dressing up in team colours, students in both primary and secondary had the chance to participate in fun recess and lunchtime activities. Special thanks to our Year 6 students who helped coordinate the younger primary students through a range of footy exercises.

10.01.2022 Greg Cadd is the School’s current Head of PDHPE and you’ll find him out on the sports oval or running a sporting activity somewhere around the school on most days of the week. Next year, Greg will be taking on the newly established role of Co-Curricular Coordinator. In the new role, in addition to being the K-12 Sport Coordinator, he will also coordinate public speaking and debating, and all activities outside of the school curriculum aside from music and drama. Greg started ...at the school in 2008 as the Head of PDHPE and Sport Master. Back then it was a much smaller student body, which has now expanded considerably. Prior to this, he had worked at Echuca High School and studied Physical Education at Ballarat University. Greg made the move to MAG because he wanted to be part of the team building a school from the ground up, where he could have a real and positive influence over the direction of the fledgling school. Greg has a vested interest in the school’s development; he now has two children attending MAG - Georgia in Year 5 and Toby in Year 7. Greg’s favourite part of his work is getting to work closely with the students, and being part of a close-knit team. In his new role he is looking forward to creating new co-curricular opportunities for the students and developing greater K-12 engagement.

09.01.2022 -- Meet the Team Monday -- Year 12 is rarely a smooth ride, but Roslyn Needs - Year 12 Coordinator - has kept our Year 12 students and their studies on track during this particularly turbulent year. Ros has been at Moama Anglican Grammar for 10 years, and this year is her 5th and final year as Year 12 Coordinator. Ros will hand over the Year 12 Coordinator reins and continue her role as a Maths teacher, as well as take some well-deserved long service leave in 2021. Ros compl...eted a degree in statistics, then a Diploma of Education at Monash University before taking up a teaching role at Matthew Flinders Girls High School. Since then, she’s been a part-owner in a gym, a teacher in Wedderburn and a bike-shop owner in Echuca. After a six-year stint at St Joseph’s College, where she taught her own two sons, she joined Moama Anglican Grammar. Ros admits that this year has been tough for many reasons. She found it especially difficult to be certain she was providing the support to students they needed during quality distance learning, ‘When the kids are talking with me via Teams or Zoom, I can’t see their body language. Without seeing this, it’s much harder to read how they are really feeling, and know if I’m getting the whole pictureluckily this year’s Year 12 group have been exceptionally supportive of each other’. As the Year 12 Valedictory Assembly and exams approach, Ros advises the Year 12 students to treat this year as normally as possible they still need to put the hard yards in because all students across the country will be on an even playing ground. She reminds them consistently of the three D’s: Make sure you have a Dream; you’ll need Determination to make it come true. But neither of these will ensure success, unless you have Dedication.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to all the students, tutors and teachers involved in the virtual 2020 Winter Candlelight Concert. We hope you enjoy these wonderful performances, ranging from violin and vocals to rock band and piano and everything in between , from MAGs talented music students. #candlelightconcert #schoolmusic #schoolconcert

08.01.2022 Recently some of our Year 1 students made new friends at Glanville Village. Mrs Cowin’s Year 1C class made a series of fantastic works of art and sent them to residents at Glanville Village to brighten up their day. They sent these wonderful photos back to us which, in turn, made the students day! Thanks to Aiden's mum, Brooke, for helping to coordinate the inter-generational exchange. The residents have also made some book marks to send back to the students look out for those in a future post!

07.01.2022 Where Are They Now? MAG alumni and former school captain Ruby Oberin graduated in 2013. We found out what she’s been up to since then Following a gap year, I worked at Kagome Foods in the laboratory, saving money to move to Melbourne. I started a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in 2015 at Monash University. I loved this course and it allowed me to realise that Medicine wasn’t for me, and my love and passion for education was where my heart was. My favourite subjects were b...ased on fetal and neonatal development, which led me to enrol in a Graduate Diploma in Reproductive Science at Monash Medical Centre. During this course I fell in love with science communication and fundamental scientific research. I was amazed at how much we still have to learn, and the amount of information we still don’t fully understand about embryonic and fetal development. I was exposed to leading researchers and educators in various fields of reproductive sciences. I was fortunate enough to be offered a PhD candidate position in Associate Professor Patrick Western's research team at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. I started my research project in 2019, investigating how a type of non-genetic inheritance, called epigenetics, in the mother’s egg could be altering bone development in children. I plan to finish my PhD in 2022 and to hopefully start working in either a junior lecturing position or in an industry-based role. I am excited for the future, even though I still don’t know where I will end up. I am taking a ‘one step at a time’ approach and saying ‘yes’ to every opportunity presented to me. I feel so fortunate being able to have watched MAG evolve and grow over the six years I was there. Each year was filled with excitement and fresh opportunities with brand-new resources and beautiful learning spaces. The classrooms were always happy environments, filled with laughter and enabled the best memories to be generated. MAG is such a colourful place, and all of my memoires of my time there are bright and warm. To current MAG students - don’t look to your future and worry how long something will take. So often I hear people say I don’t want to spend all of those years studying. You can still do so many beautiful things whilst at university, from travel to work and (of course) socialising. Yes, change is scary. But we can’t grow without change. Don’t let the fear of time, change or uncertainty stop you from giving new things a go. You will find your passion if you start looking for it.

07.01.2022 This week 8 Moama Anglican Grammar students completed Parts 1-4 of the Virtual Adventurous Journey, and are currently working together on the final section which is a Research Project. This has been an interesting experience with challenges of it own, very different from the usual challenges our young people face completing the Adventurous Journey hike. The group undertook online training and participated in a variety of virtual hikes around the world. They worked together t...o overcome some challenging scenarios and complete a physical challenge. For the physical challenge they selected a bike ride and a walk which took us across the border into Echuca, thus requiring us to wear our face masks. The physical challenges and cooking lunch were the highlights of the day for them. Thank you to the Duke of Edinburgh Award for giving us this option, and allowing some of our students (especially our two Year 12 students) to complete their Bronze Award this year.

06.01.2022 Well done to our Beacon Foundation leaders and Mr Martin for successfully navigating a tricky year! They celebrated their achievements along with partnering schools last Thursday evening at the Beacon AGM with board members and Campaspe Cohuna LLEN at Moama RSL

05.01.2022 Tiah D’Angri is pleased that she is able to remain based within a regional community when she commences her graduate studies at Charles Sturt University in Albury, yet still have the opportunity to achieve her career aspirations. The Class of 2020 alumnus will be undertaking a Bachelor of physiotherapy, after achieving a very strong HSC outcome, including five Band 5 results. Tiah is ready to embrace the upcoming life changes and challenges, I’m looking forward to staying o...n campus and experiencing a more independent environment whilst at university. Good luck, Tiah! @charlessturtuni #classof2020 #studyphysio

05.01.2022 -- Where Are They Now? -- Jayden Stapleton graduated from Moama Anglican Grammar in 2012, after beginning at the School in Year 7 in 2006. After completing a Bachelor of Education at La Trobe University, Jayden is now back in the classroom, this time as a teacher. I am in my second year of classroom teaching at Banyule Primary school in Melbourne. I have a wonderful group of 26 Year 3/4 students that I have sadly only seen for about 12 weeks this year. It has been a really s...trange time to be a teacher, but it has also been so inspiring to see how resilient the students have been despite having their entire school year turned upside down. Jayden says that he found doing Year 12 quite stressful, and so can appreciate just how difficult this year might be for current students. He gave this advice as a teacher: It’s a super important year, but it will not be the most important year of your life. HSC is only a snapshot of your learning and knowledge at one point in time. Your ATAR does not define you as a person, and it is definitely not a reflection of what the future holds for you. Have perspective and be kind to yourselves.

05.01.2022 Congratulations to Year 6 student Nate Ludlow and Year 5 student Ben Anthony on a great effort and representing our school proudly at CIS cross country in Sydney. They both had an awesome (freezing) time and even made some new friends there!

01.01.2022 -- Meet the Team Monday -- Introducing our incoming Head of Primary Nici Deller - who will start with Moama Anglican Grammar next year. Hailing from the Netherlands, Nici moved to Australia when she was 24 after meeting her husband, Gavin, here. She has been working as a teacher in Australia since 2005. Nici has previously worked at Carranballac College in Point Cook, and for the past twelve years at Bacchus Marsh Grammar. Nici has known the Echuca-Moama region for almost... twenty years as a holiday destination, where she and her family have camped on the river, established friendships and always felt welcome. She was already familiar with Moama Anglican Grammar, and very keen to put her hat in the ring when she heard the role had become available. Nici, her husband Gavin and twins, Meadow and Noah, are looking forward to the move and can’t wait to meet the students, families and staff; and to spend quality time soaking up the region’s beautiful sights, activities and friendly vibe. Make sure to say hello to Nici when you see her around the primary school starting from Term 1 next year.

01.01.2022 Our Primary Industries and Agriculture students are very passionate about their studies and are especially proud of the new additions to the School Farm. They had a wonderful time on Wednesday showcasing the four new lambs to our Kindergarten students. The lambs were born on Mother’s Day and have been cared for by our Ag and PI team this week. The Kinders met the pregnant ewes three weeks ago when they were being weighed and vaccinated by the PI Students, so you can imagine... how delighted they were to meet the lambs. Many questions were asked and the PI students were thrilled to see the excited faces of the Kinders. Mrs Reid, Mrs Ripon and Mrs Morgan had worded the Kinders up in relation to visiting etiquette involving new mums and their babies, so we were all very impressed with how quietly the Kinders stood as they watched the baby lambs and asked their questions. Great work Team!! How lucky we are to watch the cycle of life in our very own back paddock!

01.01.2022 Today is Walk Safely to School Day! We have lots of great walking tracks and footpaths nearby that makes walking to school easier. Don't forget that until children are ten years old, they should always hold an adult's hand when crossing the road. #WSTSD #roadsafety
