24.01.2022 It's a bug life! We are currently in the process of creating a bug hotel. If you have any hardy flowering plants, wood logs, bamboo offcuts etc. our entomologists would appreciate it!

24.01.2022 THE ODE They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning ...We will remember them. (The Ode recited at Anzac Day and Remembrance Day commemorations is the fourth stanza of Laurence Binyon's For the Fallen, first published in the London Times in 1914.)

23.01.2022 Thank you Windmill Theatre for having us on Friday. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance. For more resources on the show please see the link below. In anticipation for our first and last excursion for the year (due to the unanticipated first half of the year) children drew portraits of Grug created their own Grug books... explored text types such as maps and calendars how to be an audience what a theatre and performance looks like, sounds like and feels like From this children have used recycled materials to create their own sets and have become reinspired to create their own puppet shows. Thank you to those children who used screw drivers and hammers to reinvigorate our puppet theatre. https://www.windmill.org.au/show/grug-and-the-rainbow/

22.01.2022 See you Friday!!

22.01.2022 Music and Language 4 facts about language learning: When singing, we try to reproduce sounds and tone, so our accent is less pronounced than when we speak. Listening to music allows us to better assimilate the syntax and enrich our vocabulary because the lyrics of the songs are generally composed of informal expressions and words that we dont necessarily learn when studying a language. Listening to music helps with memorisation. According to scientists, singing new wo...rds makes them easier to remember. Do you remember how you learned the alphabet when you were a child? Not only adults, but also infants and children can benefit from the advantages linked to listening to a foreign language. Scientific research suggests that infants who listen to multiple languages as they grow will have better linguistic sensitivity in these languages in later life Resource: Altissia.org - 'Music as an Effective Tool for Learning Languages' https://altissia.org/music-as-an-effective-tool-for-learni/

21.01.2022 For mindfullness and relaxation techniques Youtube is a wonderful resource.

20.01.2022 We hope you are all enjoying your break. We are looking forward to everyone returning next week. Will you be a scientist to explore, use trial and error, experiment and predict using the magnets or marbles? Will you explore small world play, cooperating and collaborating with your friends while learning new vocabulary about farms and animals? Maybe you will enjoy some reading, threading or telling the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff using our puppets. Maybe exploring the outdoor environment in the rain sounds good to you.

20.01.2022 Inquiry / wondering table Thought provoking questions after reading The Very Cranky Bear where do bears live? what do they eat? do all bears eat the same thing?... Rather than telling them the answers let's see what they discover. Helping children to research using other forms i.e. books, documentaries encourages and supports their curious minds - adults don't always have all the answers and most the time their thoughts are alot more creative than reality. Please record your child's questions/wonderings on our pin up board. Lets see what beautiful thinking we get,

20.01.2022 We hope that all our families (past and present) are healthy. For those who are choosing to home school at this current point in time enjoy the following tips: create a routine - times for outdoor play, relaxation, meal times and play ensure that your child is getting the outdoor play they require (at least 3 hours a day) if you are limited in your outdoor space dancing and moving games are ideal - duck duck goose, freeze, freeze bob, wheelbarrow races, hopscotch, hide... and seek if your child struggles with screen time you may like to add this to your routine. The recommended screentime for a four year old is 1 hour a day loose parts/ open ended materials will be your best friend, they have endless possibilities and endless play destinations - sticks, blankets, cardboard boxes rummage through your recycling and host your own Mr Maker Episode build a lego city take apart an old electronic device Feel free to post what you've created with your child (buildings, cooking, cubbies - exclude your child from the photo)

18.01.2022 If you go down in the woods today You're sure of a big surprise If you go down in the woods today You'd better go in disguise!... How many bears did your child spot on their Bear Hunt today?

17.01.2022 Composting & Worm Farming We are happy to announce the arrival of our worms and new compost bin! 16.01.2022 A Provocation for Learning Provocations are one of the cornerstones of the Reggio Emilia approach to learning and a fundamental aspect of exploration-based understanding. So what are they? As the name suggests, Provocations provoke. They can generate conversations, produce ideas, conjure thoughts and stimulate interest in a subject. Learning is not the transmission of a defined body of knowledge.. learning is a process of constructing, testing and reconstructing theories, ...constantly creating new knowledge. Rinaldi, C. and Moss, P. As we work with children we model curiosity, imagination and wonder as active participants in their play.

16.01.2022 And thats a wrap! To all our beautiful families who we have worked in partnership with over the last 4 terms, thank you! Thank you for trusting us to teach and nurture your child, Best wishes, Modbury North Kindy Educators

03.01.2022 This weekend marks an auspicious day for millions of Indians living in India and abroad, as they celebrate Diwali. Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.... The word Diwali (or Deepavali as it’s sometimes called) means row of lights in an Ancient language of India, called Sanskrit. During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas. But it’s not just about lights and legends, Diwali is a time to have fun with friends and family! People exchange gifts and sweets, enjoy delicious feasts, watch firework displays and wear new clothes. It’s a time to clean and decorate your home, too. We at Modbury North Kindy experienced Diwali festivity with the children and educators. We made Diya, which are traditional Indian clay oil lamps. Children also made paper Lanterns, looked at traditional Indian Diwali artifacts and made a beautiful Rangoli art on the floor. Rangoli is a popular Diwali tradition beautiful patterns made using colourful powders and flowers. People draw rangoli on the floor by the entrance of their homes to welcome the gods and bring good luck!

03.01.2022 The loose part pipes have been used by children all week. During this play, children cooperated and collaborated. They problem solved, took turns, shared resources, experimented, used their knowledge of size and direction to make structures to water our lawn or wet the sand for sand play. They revisited the experience to test and try various shaped structures. What great engineering skills.

03.01.2022 Were now taking enrolments for preschool in 2021. Did you know that children who turn 4 before 1 May can start at a government preschool from the beginning of ...the next year? Priority is given to families who live within a preschools catchment area. Speak to your local preschool director or principal, theyd love to hear from you. 02.01.2022 Crunchy, crispy brown leaves and water pallet paints Has your child noticed changes in the environment as the leaves lose their chlorophyll? Seasons provide a wonderful provocation for learning and wondering about the world. Have you practiced your wondering today? If you are not a naturally curious person it takes practice before you begin to naturally wonder. Start by questioning out loud with your child I wonder what would happen if...... I wonder why.... Search the importance of curiosity in the early years for more information - it is a highly researched topic!

02.01.2022 Who knew your Kindy child was already meeting curriculum areas of the Foundation Curriculum through play. See attached link of how Lego can be used to explore measurement. Whilst the school curriculum areas have different headings/titles there is a strong connection between Kindy and school. For Foundation the Learning areas in mathematics are: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability... At Kindy these learning areas are called: 'I explore my place and space in the world', 'I quantify my world', 'I analyse, read and organise my world' and 'I measure and compare my world' https://www.notimeforflashcards.com/?s=lego+measurement
