24.01.2022 PROJECT: 31 Carter Street, Cammeray PROJECT TYPE: Major renovation & addition of attic master bedroom with ensuite & parents retreat ARCHITECT: Roth Miller, Greenwood Miller Architects THE BRIEF: CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION - Over 100 years old 31 Carter Street Cammeray is home to a family of six (2 adults & 2 teenagers) and requires a major renovation to stop the house deteriorating and to accommodate the growing family’s needs. To create a more streamlined and open living... space the house needed to be reshaped, remodelled and rejuvenated with a more modern interior finish. The house has been gutted and walls removed to create open living. All bathrooms and the kitchen have been renovated. For extra space the family chose to open up rooms and build up, with the addition of an attic master bedroom and parents retreat. The construction of the attic addition has been seamlessly blended with the heritage home. It features three dormas and cathedral ceilings to the main area. The construction has been a challenge due to the old construction techniques used in the era the house was originally built. Lime mortar and lime render are throughout the original home, and as such, the building has been fragile to work with. Modern Concept Constructions has employed delicate and careful demolition and rebuilding techniques in order to preserve the existing structure and its structural integrity for years to come.

The balconies were constructed of a steel skeleton and feature... frameless glass. The design maximises resident’s view of Sydney harbour whilst also increasing the footprint of each apartment with glass bi-fold doors. This was a difficult site that only had access for larger materials via a barge. This meant a seamless construction timeline had to be adhered to. The results speak for themselves! See more
