21.01.2022 We are very excited to be open again from today and look forward to hosting all of our guests.

20.01.2022 On This Day 24th June (1981) Walls of Jerusalem National Park declared 39 years ago today Walls of Jerusalem National Park was proclaimed to be a conser...vation area and a State Reserve. An area of crown land comrpsiing 11,510 hectares (or 115.1 square km's) incorporating areas of the Central Plateau WIldlife Sanctuary, as well as other areas not previously reserved, wsa included in the Walls of Jerusalem National Park under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1970 (Statutory Rules 127 of 1981). The jewels of the Walls of Jerusalem National Park in Tasmania are best discovered in a pair of hiking boots. Located in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, the Walls of Jerusalem is a wild and inspiring alpine park with a labyrinth of highland lakes, craggy mountains and elegant stands of pure pencil pine forests. Its stunning landscape of precipitous dolerite peaks, moraines and tarns are the result of glaciation. The constantly changing landscape is as unpredictable as it is beautiful and walkers should come prepared, as the weather can shift from one hour to the next. The unique alpine vegetation and clean, crisp air of this remote highland region is sure to invigorate and inspire those with a sense of adventure. The Walls of Jerusalem trail begins just outside of the National Park border near Lake Rowallen. The following describes how to best experience the National Park’s incredible mountain scenery and pristine wilderness when limited to only two days. Two options are suggested. Firstly, the 26km to Mount Jerusalem (1459m) passing through the exceptionally beautiful pine forest of Dixons Kingdom and offering stunning summit views of thousands of alpine lakes and tarns. Or the 21km return to Solomon’s Throne and King Davids Peak (1485m). This route requires significantly steeper climbing and rewards hikers with panoramic cliff top views of the entire National Park and beyond to the Central Plateau and Cradle Mountain. If time and weather allow, both can be completed in a strenuous 30km return hike. For more detailed information on this wonferful hike, including a trail map, click on the link below https://tastrails.com/walls-of-jerusalem/ The Walls of Jerusalem National Park is spectacular and remote high country, sculpted by glaciers thousands of years ago. It is one of the most pristine and untouched areas in Tasmania... once you discover it for yourself you will always be drawn back to its natural beauty and many hidden gems.

08.01.2022 An exciting week for Trowunna last week. Although the Sanctuary has been closed to the public since the 26 of March our work in conservation continues. Last wee...k we had the privilege of releasing some of the Eastern Barred Bandicoots from our breeding program. Augmentation and reestablishment of wild populations has always been one of Trowunna’s founding principals. Tasmanian is very lucky to still have a number of species that are now extinct on the mainland but they still require our support. A big thank you to the Threatened Species Commissioner Threatened Species Recovery Hub Landcare Australia Tasmanian land conservancy and participating landholders and DPIPWE. See more
