23.01.2022 RECIPE OF THE WEEK Even if you aren’t a fan of the soft texture of most tofu, you will LOVE this crispy version especially when it’s topped with flavorful peanut sauce. NOTE: You can use almond butter instead of peanut butter if you prefer. Also, we’ve kept it vegan by using maple syrup, but honey also works.... TIP: For a complete one-dish meal, try adding 2 cups of steamed broccoli to this recipe just before adding the sauce to the pan. #monk3ybox #monk3yboxloxton #loxton #besthourofyourday #gym #loxtongym #fitness #nutrition

19.01.2022 FOOD OF THE WEEK COCOA YOU CAN ONLY PICK ONE ... which do you like better? Milk chocolate or dark chocolate?... When it comes to nutrition, dark chocolate is the winner because of its cocoa content. And when it comes to cocoa, the less processed, the better! Cocoa’s health benefits include reduced blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as a reduced risk of heart attack, stroke, or type 2 diabetes. Cocoa also has anti-cancer properties. It is good for brain health, can help fight depression, and it appears to ease symptoms of asthma. Not only that, but it’s good for your skin and teeth/gums! (just make sure you brush afterward!) Tip: Look for dark chocolate with at LEAST 70% cocoa solids ... and without a lot of added sugar. Cocoa can be a delicious addition to your oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothies! #monk3ybox #monk3yboxloxton #loxton #besthourofyourday #gym #loxtongym #fitness #nutrition

17.01.2022 RECIPE OF THE WEEK CREAMY RANCH DRESSING If you’re looking to upgrade your salad dressings ... this delish ranch recipe is a great place to start!... It’s tasty, zesty, and it’s actually GOOD for you because it uses kefir, which is packed with healthy probiotics. A 2-tablespoon serving contains only 20 calories, and it definitely packs more nutrition than the same amount of regular ranch dressing, which contains 160 calories! For ultimate richness, use whole milk (vs nonfat) kefir in this recipe. Either will work, but the whole version is creamier. #monk3ybox #monk3yboxloxton #loxton #besthourofyourday #gym #loxtongym #fitness #nutrition

17.01.2022 RECIPE OF THE WEEK Raise your hand if you LOVE cookie dough! Cookie dough tastes delicious, but between worries about contaminated eggs or flour, it’s probably best to stay away from real raw dough.... That’s where recipes like this come in. Not only are they free of questionable ingredients but they’re packed with fiber and other good-for-you benefits! TIP: Remove the skin from the chickpeas for the best texture in fact, this is something you’ll want to do almost every time you use chickpeas in a recipe! It’s not that hard. Simply toss the rinsed and drained chickpeas with 1 tsp of baking soda and then heat them in the microwave for 2-3 minutes until they are hot. Dump them into a large bowl and wash them some cold water, while roughing the peas up a bit with your hands to release the skins, which will float away. Dry the chickpeas between some towels and voila! #monk3ybox #monk3yboxloxton #loxton #besthourofyourday #gym #loxtongym #fitness #nutrition

These fruits aren’t just sweet they are loaded with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, enzymes. They also contain bromelain, a digestive enzyme that performs important functions in the body. Among its many health benefits, pineapple helps boost your immune system, appears to fight inflammation, and contains compounds that ease arthritis pain, as well as help speed up recovery post-surgery and post-workout! Try stirring pineapple chunks into Greek yogurt. So good! The big question today is: How do you like your pineapple? 10.01.2022 FOOD OF THE WEEK OLIVE OIL What brand of extra-virgin olive oil do you have in your panty right now?... Olive oil has been called the most nutritious fat in the world because it’s high in antioxidants and good-for-you fats. Not only that, but it contains anti-inflammatories that are linked with a lower incidence of stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and heart disease! PLUS it has antibacterial properties. For the best nutrition benefits, make sure you’re using PURE extra virgin olive oil. It’s easy to get more olive oil in your diet use it in salad dressings, pestos and sauces, and when you saute veggies. TIP: Olive oil degrades quickly so it should be stored in a cool, dark place (next to your stove is NOT the best idea!). If it comes in a clear container, transfer it to a light-proof container. 07.01.2022 FOOD OF THE WEEK POMEGRANATE Have you ever cut open a pomegranate yourself!? They’re one of the most nutritious fruits on earth plus they are sweet and delicious!... But if you’ve never tried them before, they can look a little intimidating. Once you get the hang of cutting them open and scooping out the seeds, you’ll definitely be a fan. Pomegranates have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. PLUS, the juice may cut your risk of heart disease. Pomegranates also help lower blood pressure, ease arthritis pain, and are good for brain function. Plus they can help with workout/athletic performance. There’s also some evidence pomegranates fight prostate and breast cancer. Add them to salads, smoothies, or stir them into plain Greek yogurt. Yum! Quick Tip: to cut open a pomegranate, chop off the top and slice through the white pith to create separate segments. Open the segments outward to scoop out the seeds.

05.01.2022 FOOD OF THE WEEK TOFU TOFU!!! Show me a GIF that describes how you feel about it! ... Tofu facts: it’s a major source of plant-based protein. It comes in different textures from ultra-soft to firm. It’s made by pressing condensed soy milk into blocks in a process that’s similar to cheesemaking. Because it actually tastes pretty bland, it can be added to tons of recipes, marinated, grilled, broiled, stir-fried, and more! Among its many health benefits, it may lower your chance of heart disease, is linked to a lower risk of some cancers (breast, digestive system, and prostate), and appears to help keep blood sugar under control. It’s also believed to help balance hormones, reduce bone loss, improve the elasticity of skin, and improve your memory (especially for women over 65!). One of the knocks on tofu is that it’s made from genetically modified soybeans. If that is a concern for you, be sure to choose a non-GMO brand, which you should be able to find at most supermarkets. TIP: If you’re not a fan of tofu’s texture, try pressing out the liquid from a block of tofu before cooking. Did you know walnuts are the ONLY nuts to contain significant amounts of the healthy omega 3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)? Walnuts can help you fight heart disease by helping to lower your LDL bad cholesterol, reducing inflammation, and improving the function of your blood vessels. Walnuts also contain compounds that fight cancer and are good for your brain! Plus they contain a wide range of vitamins and minerals that your body needs. 02.01.2022 FOOD OF THE WEEK PEPPERMINT We often think of peppermint as being a flavor to add to tea, gum, candy, or holiday treats ... but the energizing plant leaves actually contain nutritional compounds!... This doesn’t just go for peppermint, but other members of the mint family including spearmint. Among other things, peppermint can help soothe your stomach, ease your headaches and give you a boost of caffeine-free energy. It’s also believed to calm allergies, boost concentration, and protect oral health. And it has the trifecta: it has anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial properties! CONTROVERSY ALERT!
