25.01.2022 Update on COVID-19 From the desk of Matt Kean MP In just a matter of weeks life as we know it has changed. For many, this has been an extremely tough time and I wanted to take this opportunity to check in - are you OK?... I am here to help and my office is still open for phone calls and emails. If you have any questions or need help give me a call on 9476 3411 or email [email protected] There has never been a time for the Hornsby community to work together more than right now. We need to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its pretty easy, stay home. The NSW Government has announced a number of initiatives to help the community through this time including additional funding for domestic violence, grants for small business, free TAFE courses to upskill and tax relief for business. The Service NSW Helpline 13 77 88 is also open 24 hours a day 7 days a week to answer your questions. For health related COVID-19 advice, please call the national Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080. #staysafe #stayhome

23.01.2022 ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATON Due to the current pandemic crisis, RSL Hornsby Sub-Branch, along with all other sub-branches, has had to cancel the annual ANZAC commemoration service that is normally held at the Hornsby Cenotaph. Normally, approximately 3,000 members of our local community, including veterans, cadets, representatives of local schools, other community groups and political leaders gather for the commemorative Dawn Service. The Sub-Branch deeply regrets that this year...s Dawn Service must be cancelled. On ANZAC Day, the Sub-Branch will mark the occasion with the private laying of a wreath by the Hornsby Sub-Branch President, Mr George Main. Sub-Branch Vice President, Mr Ray Davis, will be laying a wreath on behalf of the TPI Association, of which he is the local President. Members of the public and representatives of other community bodies might wish to privately lay their wreaths throughout the day whilst observing the current safe distance protocols. The RSL NSW website provides guidance on a number of ways in which you can commemorate ANZAC Day 2020 within the constraints of Government Health Directives such as: Tune into live services and virtual commemorative services. The ABC will be broadcasting a 5.30am service from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. There will also be a 10am service from the Anzac Memorial in Sydney that will be broadcast on ABC and streamed live. Light up the dawn. At 6am on ANZAC Day, go to the end of your driveway or stand on your balcony, with a light in remembrance of the fallen, and listen to a brief commemorative service. Together even while apart well remember those who served and sacrificed. Many of the RSL Hornsby Sub-Branch members and their local communities intend to LIGHT UP THE DAWN in this way. We encourage as many as possible from our local area to participate in this open and visual way. Perhaps by commemorating ANZAC Day in such visual ways during this present crisis, we will also be honouring the thousands of health workers, defence force members, leaders in all levels of Government and our emergency services people who are on active service fighting this dreadful pandemic.

21.01.2022 Reposted For Hornsby Residents Hello Hornsby Shire Residents!!! I have received an email from the wonderful Donna Fitton at Hornsby Shire Council regarding an incredible FREE Planting Initiative to help keep our communitys spirits boosted. I will paste below the flower row, along with the copies of lists the trees and plants available in photos ... Happy Gardening From Donna: Unfortunately we have had to suspend our Community Planting Days and Tree Giveaways due to COVID-19. That leaves our Community Nursery fully stocked with trees & plants ready to go in the ground. We would like to do home delivery plant runs to our rural areas over the next few weeks while undertaking other essential duties in those locations. A spot of gardening/revegetation during isolation is a good way to keep active and now is the best time to plant. Why not talk to your neighbours (at a distance of course) and create a habitat corridor, plantings that connect and span a few properties. The birds will love it! We have a fabulous selection of small & tall trees as well, something to plant for the future. Attached is a species list of available plants. To ensure the safety of staff and residents, staff will pack and deliver orders with gloves on. Plants will be left at front gate or as arranged. Please send me an email with your: Name Address Contact phone number Requested plants & numbers or use the attached stocklist. We do have a limit of 10 plants for a combination of shrubs/vines/groundcovers & grasses. Trees are Unlimited! if you are wanting to revegetate an area, please email to discuss numbers, species & availability. It is first in first served, so when we run out of a particular species, we run out. Once we have enough for a run to your area I will send an email or call to let you know a delivery day The weather is absolutely perfect for planting, soft soil, mild weather, Please pass the word around to your neighbours, friends and other Hornsby Shire residents Regards, Donna Fitton Tree Care Project Officer | Natural Resources | Hornsby Shire Council email: [email protected] Council acknowledges the traditional owners of the lands of Hornsby Shire, the Darug and Guringai people.
20.01.2022 Health advice on coronavirus Our Government is taking all possible steps to protect the health of Australians and the economy. Our actions have first been to initiate travel restrictions on the basis of expert medical advice. This has helped to first contain and now slow the spread of the virus in Australia. Australias Coronavirus Emergency Response Plan was initiated on the 27 February 2020 two weeks ahead of the World Health Organisation declaring a pandemic. We will conti...nue to stay ahead of this and get through as a country. Each of us can help minimise the spread of the virus by doing four key things 1. Practising good hand hygiene by washing our hands properly 2. If you feel unwell, phone a doctor or emergency department, dont just turn up 3. If you have the virus, self-isolate 4. Keep up-to-date with latest advice on self-isolation or other health advice relating to coronavirus, call 1800 020 080 or visit: https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-hea Our government has also announced in a $2.4 billion health package which includes 100 pop-up testing clinics and free doctor consults by video and phone for isolated patients. The Federal Governments economic stimulus package We are also taking every possible step to protect the health of the economy, to keep people in jobs, keep businesses open and ensure we bounce back as an economy stronger on the other side. The package includes: Up to $25,000 will be provided to small and medium-sized businesses that employ staff and have a turnover of less than $50 million, with a minimum payment of $2,000. This payment will be tax free. Increasing the Instant Asset Write-Off threshold from $30,000 to $150,000. Businesses who have access to this will be expanded to include those with an annual turnover up to $500 million (previously $50 million) The provision of a 50% wage subsidy to employers for apprentice and trainee wages for up to 9 months from 1 January 2020. One-off payments of $750 will be made from 31 March to pensioners, social security, veteran and other income support recipients and eligible concession card holders. Backing business investment by providing a time limited 15 month investment incentive (through to 30 June 2021) to support business investment and economic growth over the short term, by accelerating depreciation deductions. Businesses with a turnover of less than $500 million will be able to deduct an additional 50 per cent of the asset cost in the year of purchase. 01.01.2022 A Message from Julian Leeser MP Coronavirus is changing the way we live, the way we work, the way we commute (or dont), the way we consume, the way we educate our children, the way we gather in community and the way we relate to each other. It is not just a health issue, though its potential to test our health system is unprecedented.... The privations of the present make us grateful for the things we have our family, the beauty of our neighbourhood and the acts of kindness of our neighbours and those people doing essential work in our local shops and government services making our lives easier. But we cannot ignore the darker side of what coronavirus is doing to our society. The change in life is putting a great strain on the mental health of many Australians as they understandably but wrongly question their sense of self-worth. Can I say to anyone who is struggling: You matter. Your life matters. The Government is investing in growing the capacity of Beyond Blues coronavirus hotline 1800 512 348, Lifeline 13 11 14 and Kids Helpline 1800 55 1800. Additional funding has also been provided to help people experiencing domestic violence especially through 1800 RESPECT. I want to thank the front-line health and community service who are helping us through these difficult times. The unprecedented economic challenge we are facing is putting a huge strain on our community. I will never forget seeing the Hornsby Centrelink queue stretching more than a block and a half filled with many Australians who would never have imagined themselves standing in a Centrelink line. The Federal Government has made the decision to spend $320 Billion on JobSeeker and JobKeeper and related measures to help people who have lost their jobs and help people who still have their jobs to keep their jobs. For information on the Federal Governments response visit australia.gov.au a central website to help Australians navigate the support Australian Government is providing during coronavirus.
