21.01.2022 We are OPEN and back in business at both clinics today. Thank you all so much for allowing our wonderful staff to take a break with their families over the festive season. We are refreshed and super excited about the year ahead.

21.01.2022 The clinic has been busy bringing new puppies into the world over the last couple of weeks. These are just a few of the litters weve delivered via cesarean or with medical help in the last 3weeks. Its very exciting when youre expecting a litter of puppies and we all hope they manage to whelp normally with no assistance required. However, there are a few things to watch out for when its time. Labour occurs in 3 stages: Stage 1: restless/nervous behaviour, shivering, pan...ting. Usually lasts 6-12hrs but can last up to 36hrs. Stage 2: Contractions begin, waters break and pups should arrive every 30-60mins. Can last 6-24hrs. Stage 3: Placentas pass after each pup or after 2 pups. If contractions have started and no pups are born within the hour or if a lot of green discharge is passed and no puppy then the mother may be having some difficulty. A visit to the vet can determine if a pup is stuck and determine if the puppies are still alive. If theres no progression or the puppies are becoming stressed then a cesarean may be required. If youre concerned that something may be wrong, our vets and nurses are available to discuss your options and make the best plan for you and your pet.

18.01.2022 A few months ago, Nasher presented to the clinic in a bad way after being hit by a car. He was struggling to breathe with a collapsed chest and large air bubble under his skin. Xrays revealed broken ribs which had punctured his chest and cut into a section of his lung. It was all-hands-on-deck to stabilise Nasher for surgery. Dr Stacey performed the anaesthesia and kept Nasher breathing through surgery. Dr Katelyn was the surgeon with Stacey Smith as the surgical assistant. ...Nashers chest was cut open between 2 ribs to expose the damaged lung. A section of lung had torn off and was hanging by a flap causing air to leak into the chest cavity and prevent Nasher from breathing properly. It was amputated and the leaking portion was stitched together to stop it leaking. Nashers chest was stitched back together and a continuous-suction drain was placed through the chest wall to remove residual blood and air from the chest. Dr Stacey stayed with him overnight and by morning he was wagging his tail! He stayed in hospital for a week and was back to his energetic self at his revisit after surgery. A successful outcome thanks to a dedicated team, a loving owner and just a touch of luck. We look forward to seeing Nasher for his routine care and hope he doesnt suffer anymore emergencies. 10.01.2022 FIV ALERT Recently we have diagnosed multiple cats with Feline Immunodeficiency virus, also known as Feline AIDs. Feline AIDS is a nasty virus that attacks the cats immune system causing gradual weakness, leaving the cat vulnerable to many other infections. The virus is found in the cats blood and saliva. Cats become infected most commonly through fighting, especially through cat bite wounds. ... Cats that are infected with Feline AIDs will become lethargic, lose weight, look scruffy and will have wounds that do not heal. Diagnosis of Feline AIDs is done with a simple blood test in the clinic that takes 10 minutes to get the results. Unfortunately there is no cure for Feline AIDs. So the best and only prevention is to vaccinate. The vaccination course is three vaccines two weeks apart. If the cat is older than 12 months they will require testing prior to vaccination. If you are concerned about your cat or would like to protect your cat from this disease, please call the clinic on 4166 1285 to book an appointment. See more
