07.01.2022 From our local weather Guru Stuart Coombs Good morning Hills folk! We have a windy and unsettled day ahead of us today as a strong cold front approaches from the west, collecting some tropical moisture ahead of it. Northerly winds will steadily increase through the morning with the approach of the cold front. By mid to late morning isolated wind gusts to 90-100 km/hr will be possible across the Hills area bringing the possibility of falling branches and maybe a few trees as ...well as the risk of loose items being blown off decks and around yards. A few showers will develop as the front approaches with the risk of thunderstorms. The cold front should arrive near midday with more concentrated areas of showers and the greatest thunderstorm risk as well as a gusty westerly change and sharply cooler conditions. The remainder of the day will be cooler with the westerly wind remaining quite strong and gusty (although not as intense as the northerly) and a few further showers at times. Rainfall totals generally won't be large today with a range of 2-10mm covering most areas of our region. The wind will likely be the most significant factor of the day. I hope you all get through the day safely! Best of luck.

02.01.2022 Local Mt Evelyn residents Sue and Darren over the last 40 odd days have been raising a baby Kookaburra now named ‘Chuckles’ after receiving a nest of 3 kookaburra eggs following the felling of a tree in the Dandenong’s. Tomorrow Chuckles will be released to the wild after a local family of kookaburras appear to have adopted Chuckles and have been feeding her and teaching her the local lingo laugh. #ChucklesKookaburraSamphier
