06.01.2022 A.GIRL performs a classy, soundtrack-like new take on her latest R&B-meets-Hip Hop release ‘Lola’ exclusively for mood on the roof. The original version is a winner, but you’ll love the injection of strings in this rendition. Hey, call me Lola! Stream A.GIRL’s latest single ‘Lola’: https://agirlartist.lnk.to/Lola Subscribe to Mood on the Roof: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNTOv7Tu7J7NOdzkuNjYAQg... _ We didn’t need to think twice about inviting this talented 19-year-old Maori-Australian R&B artist from Western Sydney to perform for mood on the roof. After the shoot, A.GIRL takes time out with the mood on the roof crew to tell us a bit about herself. The name A.GIRL came from merging two of her names together. My nickname always has been Angel, so I took the ‘A’ from Angel and the beginning part of my real name, Hinenui [which means girl in Maori], she says. This winner of Triple J Unearthed slot for the 2019 Listen Out festival counts among artists she looks up to such as Jhené Aiko, Ella Mai, Doja Cat and SZA. And what about her top 3? Definitely Lauryn Hill, The Weekend, and Freddie Mercury. I reside in ’42!" Her debut single ‘2142’ released last year. This song told the story of the postcode in Western Sydney where she grew up and still resides. But A.GIRL doesn’t get hung-up on the meaning of ‘home’. It's not really a place or anything. ... New Zealand is like motherland, and that's where we're from, but home is just wherever my family's at. Bringing the Polynesian community together is something A.GIRL is passionate about. I want to bring them together. I want them to see that if we did this together, if we stormed the world together we’d be much stronger as one. We’d be much stronger supporting each other, and loving each other, and showing each other the support that we deserve. I think it’s very important and I will make that my mission to do that. The follow-up singles ‘Play’ and ‘All Over You’ established A.GIRL as a emerging star on the R&B/Hip Hop scene, and in May 2020, she collaborated with popular Sydney Hip Hop artist B Wise on the track ‘NXT 2 U’. Her latest track ‘Lola’ has deep meaning for her. Lola to me is my alter ego. Her exterior is very staunch, very tough. She doesn't let anybody in easily. She's a hard worker. She gets what she wants when she wants it. ... It's just like seeing the softer, vulnerable side of me as well, and seeing who Lola is deep down inside. 2020 has been a massive year for A.GIRL but we get the feeling that things are only just getting started! Stay tuned for more. ~ Band ~ Backup Vocals - Matire Tairua-Broughton Bass - Lailahni Tagivetaua Keys/ Trigger Drums - Tasker Electric Violin - Sophie Podrasky ~ Production ~ Creative Director/Cinematography - Ben Develin Producer - Ned Philpot Engineer - Taka Perry

05.01.2022 Artist/Producer Xavier Dunn sings this one from the heart sending listeners on an emotional journey with him. ‘my mother told me’ is a song he wrote 8 years ago while on his first overseas writing trip to LA and is inspired by loved ones left back home. We’re glad he didn’t leave this song behind and is able to perform it for you on the roof at Mude Studios. The Sydney-based artist spent some time to chat with us after his stunning performance. Xavier wrote his first song ...when he was in Year 7 It was some sad song. I remember my mum and grandma, when I would show them this music, they would say Why is your music so sad?. And he would respond to that saying, I’m just so happy that I want to write sad songs. His parents played a large role in getting him into music They both play musical instruments and they’re both music teachers. They just shoved us in all the bands and choirs, so I was playing heaps of different instruments in primary school and high school. I guess I took that for granted and then now growing up, it was really accessible for me to play a lot of different instruments. So it makes it easier to do what I want to do, and maybe that shaped me wanting to do music. Growing up, his parents would play music by Queen, Elton John, Billy Joel, Vivaldi and Enya, and they clearly influenced his own music They all wafted in. Someone left the door open, they walked in, they’re in my head and I can’t get them out! Xavier told us about his new song ‘My Mother Told Me’ the song is about your loved ones at home that you leave behind I know it’s in every single song basically, but I wanted a song of my own to say the same thing. He wrote this song 8 years ago when he was in LA It was my first writing trip as an artist when I first got signed. I had no money; I was trapped in LA and I felt pretty out of touch with everything. Getting in with Tommy English, I came up with this baby. It was one of my first sessions I did in LA and it was really nice. Making the song, he got his music teacher parents involved Dad’s playing the trumpet and mum’s playing the violin. I went up to Orange because they have a music hall there and recorded them in this glorious hall that they had. Make sure to check Xavier Dunn on his socials to follow him on his musical journey! _ Performed by: Artist: Xavier Dunn Creative Director/Production: Ben Develin Producer: Ned Philpot Engineer: taka perry Shot at Mude Studios, Sydney. www.mude.com.au
