15.01.2022 Our Fisheries Officers inspect commercial vessels too during their patrols! Recently, Officers from Cowes inspected one commercial rock lobster fisher, Matt Har...ry, who was docked at San Remo. As you can see, he had a great haul of rock lobsters aboard. Matt often heads out to sea for more than one day, sometimes staying out for up to 10 days at a time! He fishes from Apollo Bay to Wilson’s Promontory. A typical catch is around 30 rock lobsters in a day, but that can vary depending on time of year, depth, weather conditions and even the moon cycle. Matt started his own cray fishing business back in 2006 and has called San Remo home since. As with most commercial fishers, fishing runs in the family. He grew up fishing on his uncle’s boat around King Island and Victoria in the 1990s. Two of his cousins have been cray fishers and one is still currently fishing out of Queenscliff. Matt, his wife and two boys love living in San Remo and enjoy being part of the local fishing community. 12.01.2022 Apparently many of Moolap Marines clients are unaware that they’ve shut the doors after more than 40 years in the industry. Dennis & Pat reluctantly decided to retire at the end of February this year. I’ll pull the pin on this page as soon as Matt tells me to.
