09.01.2022 Youd be forgiven in thinking that Land Rovers were the first vehicles to drive from London to Singapore in 1951, mainly brought about by the book, First Overland by Tim Slessor and later, some PR people associated with Land Rover. As great as that achievement was, it was by no means the first vehicle sojourn of its type. In 1928 the Australian, Francis Birtles, drove a British made Bean car from London to Melbourne. Im pretty sure that was the first. In 1932 (or there-abo...uts) Hector MacQuarrie in a Baby Austin drove around the world, including London to Sydney. 08.01.2022 Many four wheel drivers would have experienced and enjoyed the Watervalley Wetlands in SAs south east and the rugged Warraweena property in the states Flinders Ranges. The man responsible for these private environmental reserves, and lots of other properties, Tom Brinkworth, has recently passed away. In my dealings with him he was always great to get along with and a bit of a character. Lets hope his legacy will continue.
