21.01.2022 Event Spotlight: 50m Prone The 50m Prone event is a 60 shot competition in the Prone position (lying down). Competitors use .22LR target rifles. These have a ...longer and heavier barrel than you might have seen on hunting type rifles and sometimes have aluminium stocks with lots of different adjustments. This means the athlete can get the rifle to fit them perfectly. These rifles use peep sights (no magnification!) and there is a sling to help support the weight of the rifle. The best athletes in the world are getting 600/600 in this competition! This event is very popular with clubs because there is not a lot of equipment needed. Depending on the club, this event may also be shot at 20m or 90m. What's your favourite range to shoot Prone at?

13.01.2022 Event Spotlight: 10 Metre Air Rifle Over the next few weeks we will be displaying the different events our Clubs and Members participate in. Hopefully you are... inspired to try a different event (if you are a member), or maybe even come out and give Target Shooting a go. Feel free to ask any questions you may have! The first event we are highlighting is the 10m Air Rifle event. This match is shot using .177 Air Rifles with peep sights (no magnification!). Targets may be electronic or paper. For both men and women, matches consist of 60 shots in the standing position, with a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes. This match is shot at the Olympics and the Paralympics. Clubs often run a modified rules event for Juniors and Seniors where the rifles are supported on a rest. The 10 "Ring" on the target is actually just a dot! And it is only 0.5mm across. In a competition, the shots are scored by decimal. So a shot that only just touches the 10 dot would be 10.0 and a perfect shot in the middle is a 10.9. The best shooters in the world average 10.5 across a match. Athletes wear supportive pants, jackets and gloves during a match. This helps them to maintain their position, and support their back, for an extended period of time - an athlete may be in position for an hour and half or more for a match. Don't be fooled - these guys can still hit the 10 without the gear! A stand is normally used to rest the rifle on between shots. : Australian Paralympic Committee, Petr Kurka

12.01.2022 Event Spotlight: Benchrest Class 3 Next up in our event spotlight is the Benchrest Class 3 competition. This match is quite similar to Benchrest Class 1 that ...we highlighted a few weeks back. This competition is also shot using rifles over a rest. It is typically competed at 50m and 20m. The difference being that Rifles can weigh up to 8kg and there are no restrictions on the style of the rifle or the magnification of the scope. This match can be quite competitive, and shooters need to be able to read the wind well. Often the winners are determined by how many 'Inner 10s' (10.2 or better) they shot! You'll often find Class 3 shooters in our testing tunnel, testing out different types of ammunition to find out which one works best in their rifle - every little bit helps in this match! See more
