25.01.2022 Are they serious? The Morrison Government is closing Mornington Medicare and Centrelink in September and replacing it with this... one desk... for 15hrs per wee...k. The Morrison Government thinks that this can replace the service provided from 16 staff at Mornington Medicare and Centrelink. How on earth will this desk, staffed for 15 hours per week, service all the people who used Mornington Centrelink before the pandemic? And what about all the additional people who have lost their jobs? Frankston Centrelink is already extremely busy. Surely the Coronavirus pandemic has shown the importance of face-to-face support for people getting government services. I’m calling on the Morrison Government to rethink this and provide our community with the services we deserve.

25.01.2022 How will you celebrate NAIDOC Week?

25.01.2022 Great news from Greg Hunt and a huge thanks to all those involved in the advocacy to keep the Mornington Centrelink office open.

22.01.2022 Today is the Raise the Rate for Good National Day Of Action! Supporters will be taking action in many different ways, including contacting political leaders ab...out why we can't turn back to $40 a day. Many people will be using canned food as a symbol of how hard it is to get by and to eat regular, fresh, nutritious meals, on the old Newstart rate of $40 a day. You might like to post a photo to Facebook and Twitter of canned food, sharing your experiences and views. If you do, remember to use #RaisetheRateforGood. On Facebook, tag @RaisetheRate and @AustralianCouncilofSocialService. On Twitter tag @ACOSS. A wide range of organiations are showing their support through an open statement calling for a permanent, adequate increase to JobSeeker. Read more: bit.ly/2DFmJPt Anyone participating in the National Day of Action, of course, should always regularly check the latest local health alerts, wherever they are, to ensure they comply with physical-distancing and other requirements. 21.01.2022 Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness day. So important for us to care for those, who have once cared for us. This day is celebrated every year on 15 June to ra...ise voice for caring elders. Elder abuse is a global social issue which affects the Health and Human Rights of millions of older persons around the world. The 7 most common types of elder abuse are: Physical abuse. Sexual abuse. Emotional or psychological abuse. Neglect. Abandonment. Financial abuse. Self-neglect.

20.01.2022 here we are again

20.01.2022 Stuart Davis-Meehan, the manager at Mornington Communication Information & Support Center, recently thanked Volpino for providing cooked meals to people doing i...t tough in the Mornington area. Locals go to the centre looking for support, usually in terms of food or financial assistance - and for the first time the centre has been able to provide people with cooked meals. Stuart says they have been *very* well received. Thank you to everyone who has donated since April to make this program possible. With this current lockdown, the need locally is increasing and we would dearly love to continue this important program. Our current funding will see out August. If you would like to donate to help us provide meals to local people in need, please contact David directly via email [email protected]

18.01.2022 Investing in social housing will help end homelessness and create construction jobs that are desperately needed all over Australia. So, if Treasurer Josh Fryden...berg commits to building 30,000 social housing properties over four years, he can create 18,500 jobs a year in local communities. But the government needs to know that people want them to create a fairer and stronger community. Contact the Treasurer and urge him to invest in social housing in the lead up to the October Budget: https://bit.ly/30jPSse #HW2020 #BuildSocialHousing

Over the next 16 days, we encourage you to get involved and #CallItOut! Information from the UN: https://www.un.org//obse/ending-violence-against-women-day "Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports from those on the front lines, have shown that all types of violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified. This is the Shadow Pandemic growing amidst the COVID-19 crisis and we need a global collective effort to stop it. As COVID-19 cases continue to strain health services, essential services, such as domestic violence shelters and helplines, have reached capacity. More needs to be done to prioritize addressing violence against women in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts." In Victoria, Respect Victoria has created a campaign to coincide with the UN's #16Days. Information on Respect Victoria's campaign and how you can get involved: https://www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au/16-days-activism-2020 Today you can participate in the Walk Against Family Violence - which is a bit different this year. 10.01.2022 Over the weekend the Victorian Government announced a whopping $5.3 billion investment to #BuildSocialHousing and affordable housing over the next four years. T...his will include 9,300 new social housing homes and 2,900 new affordable and low-cost homes. This is great news and a game-changer! It will make the world of difference to thousands of people, freeing up funds for food, medicine, bills, and children’s education costs. It will reduce homelessness and enable people to have a stable home base from where they can build a life We’ve been fighting for this type of investment for some time so thanks to everyone who has been contacting politicians and joining in campaign activities!

09.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: Our latest research, out today, shows that a JobSeeker cut would be a disaster for hundreds of thousands of Australians. 0% of rentals will be af...fordable if the payment is halved. That's 13 rentals out of 77,000 across the entire country. That's not good enough. It's time to raise the rate for good.

09.01.2022 According to the World Health Organization, elder abuse can be defined as "a single, or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relati...onship, where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm or distress to an older person." Elder abuse can take various forms such as physical, psychological or emotional, sexual and financial abuse. It can also be the result of intentional or unintentional neglect. Elder abuse often occurs with little recognition or response. Until recently, this serious social problem was hidden from the public view and considered mostly a private matter. Even today, elder abuse continues to be a taboo, mostly underestimated and ignored by societies across the world. Elder abuse is an important public health and societal problem. Reducing elder abuse is one of the goals of Rotary Melbourne's Safe Families project.
