18.01.2022 26 February 2020. Red Hill South. In the first photo here is a site infested with Sweet pittosporum (Pittosporum undulatum). Note the lack of understorey diversity. In the 2nd photo the neighbouring property is a LMPL biolink property that has been weeded as part of the project over the past 3 years. Shows what can be achieved in a short space of time. #lmpl #mplandcare #mornpenlandcare #landcarevictoria... #landcareaustralia #biolinks See more

12.01.2022 INATURALIST!! Greetings conservationists. Presumably (hopefully) youve all heard of iNaturalist - the global biodiversity database bringing citizen science to... the fingers tips of iPhone (and desktop) users everywhere. Its the official partner to the Atlas of Living Australia but waaaay easier to log observations in. Even more hopefully the ambitious among us are already out there snapping photos of all things flora, fauna and fungi and are uploading them to iNaturalist. Ok... now that weve weeded out who the hardcore community conservationists are... there is a final request (bear with me I know its a long post). I have recently set up a project in iNaturalist. Projects basically piggy back on your regular observation to gather a little extra specific information to meet a set objective. In this case the project youd have to join is called: Australias Untold Roadtoll - Recording Roadkill. My aim is to begin collating records of all roadkill from around Australia in the hopes we can use it to approach relevant road authorities and shires with hot spots of wildlife fatalities on their roads. Then, based on species being recorded, we can suggest to transport planners appropriate designs of road ecology infrastructure (installing wildlife culverts, retrofitting existing culverts, installing overpassed for arboreals, installing or retrofitting fauna deflection fence etc), to start mitigating the risk to wildlife. So by clicking on the project button in your observation, your wildlife data not only helps record Australias biodiversity but takes it a step further in informing actual on-ground work improvements Now, dialling it alllll the way back. If you havent yet hopped on the iNaturalist bandwagon - heres a quick link to the free app. Its just sitting there waiting for you : iNaturalist by iNaturalist, LLC https://apps.apple.com/au/app/inaturalist/id421397028

11.01.2022 Now is the time for a backyard safari!! You can join iNaturalist and log your species sightings! https://www.mornpen.vic.gov.au//Now-is-the-perfect-time-fo

11.01.2022 Over the last few weeks our six Agricultural and Environmental Works Crews have hit the ground and are now ready to begin work on properties engaged through the... expression of interest process. The 44 strong crew has spent the last few weeks completing important safety training and supporting Parks Victoria with work on their sites. From now until April 2021 they will be delivering a range of environmental and agricultural services across public and private land. The PPWCMA’s works crews are a six month project to assist farmers, organisations and community groups to deliver their agricultural and environmental projects while providing employment to Victorians. The project is funded by the Victorian Government’s Working for Victoria initiative. We are still accepting expression of interest from landholders and you can learn more at www.ppwcma.vic.gov.au/work-crews-hit-the-ground-running/ #WorkingforVictoria #CMAsGetItDone PPWCMA loves Landcare

08.01.2022 Excited, nervous!! About to start my first Koala Tree Planting Online Workshop with Linda Sparrow. The purpose of these is to show other conservation groups wha...t specific needs koalas have and how to set up their own tree planting project. It doesnt sound like a big deal, but it is to me! If just one other group starts planting trees for Koalas out of this, we will be thrilled. Many thanks to Linda Sparrow of Bangalow Koalas for giving up her time for this too.
