20.01.2022 OFFICAL LEAGUE STATEMENT AFL South East (AFLSE) has today announced the decision to cancel all official football and netball competitions across the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (MPNFL) for the 2020 season. At a meeting on Saturday morning between AFLSE and MPNFL club presidents, a decision was reached to cancel competitions encompassing seniors, reserves and under 19 football and all grades of netball.... AFLSE Chief Operating Officer Shaun Connell said that while the decision to cancel the season was a tough one, the final determination had become clear after the most recent consultation with the MPNFL clubs. Whilst we are disappointed to cancel the 2020 MPNFL season, the health and wellbeing of the community and the sustainability of our clubs has always been our priority, Connell said. We took a positive approach to return to the playing field but, with growing concern around the management of clubs during COVID and the growing uncertainty within the community, it was agreed that traditional MPNFL home and away season was not viable for 2020. Once it became clear that the long-term sustainability of clubs was at risk, the decision was clear-cut and needed to be made in a timely fashion. Covid-19 has presented a very unique set of circumstances and we needed to ensure that all 22 clubs and AFL South East as an organisation - emerged from this pandemic in a healthy state. We look forward to working with our clubs to create a safe and healthy environment for all members and volunteers moving forward. We now begin to put plans in place for 2021 a season that promises to be like no other. Concerns raised by senior football clubs included financial sustainability, player numbers, the additional burden on volunteers, management of social-distancing protocols and an inability to raise much-needed funding through gate takings, canteen, and bar sales. Connell thanked all 22 clubs for their honest and frank feedback throughout the consultation process which included a club survey and several on-line meetings. The last few months have been unprecedented in terms of managing community sport and I would like to thank the leaders of our clubs for being engaged in the process, Connell said. All clubs understand the associated challenges and impact that Covid-19 has had and were very open and balanced with their views. Both AFLSE and the clubs have a clear obligation to protect participants, volunteers, officials, umpires, supporters and their families during this Coronavirus pandemic. Whilst the premiership season is cancelled for senior competitions, the league remains open to exploring club interest in a shortened, more informal opt-in/opt-out model of competition should circumstances allow later this year. Modified models of competition will now be finalised and canvassed with clubs over the coming period.

This is tough, but perhaps if we attack it like the third quarter - the Premiership quarter we can all play our role and get the win we so desperately need so that no more lives are lost and businesses and ourselves can get back to our normal lives. Remember we can only beat this monster i...f we all work together, by staying apart & by doing our part that will thank all those wonderful frontline & essentials workers who are working day & night to beat this virus. Please look after each other and stay safe. If you need help then dont hesitate to ask as we are all here for you. xx

05.01.2022 Press Release: FL South East (AFLSE) Head of Region Richard Black, AFLSE Chief Operating Officer Shaun Connell and Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (MPNFL) Operations Manager Haydn Parsons tonight (June 18) met with MPNFL Clubs to discuss the composition of the 2020 season. With a caveat that State Government Covid-19 restrictions will be relaxed to allow a minimum of 500 people to attend home-and-away matches the MPNFL clubs agreed on the following proposal pres...ented by the MPNFL Covid-19 Working Party. The clubs agreed that the 2020 MPNFL season for both football and netball across Divisions One and Two will begin on Saturday July 25, with grand finals to be played on the weekend of Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October. It was also agreed that clubs would compete under a zero cap this season. Throughout the discussions the main objective was to design a season structure, within the available constraints, that provides the simplest and most equitable outcome for all clubs. The proposal agreed to by clubs includes the following detail: Division One Season to begin on Saturday July 25 and to conclude on the weekend of Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October. The season will consist of nine rounds with clubs playing each other once to maintain the integrity of the competition. The traditional Top-5 finals series will remain in place, conducted over a four-week period commencing on the weekend of Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September. Clubs will compete under a zero salary cap for the 2020 season. Division Two: Season to begin on Saturday July 25 and to conclude on the weekend of Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October. The season will consist of 11 rounds with clubs playing each other once to maintain the integrity of the competition. Following the withdrawal of Chelsea FNC, a weekly bye will be introduced to accommodate the 11-team structure. A Top-4 finals series will take place, conducted over a two-week period commencing on the weekend of Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October. Week One of finals will see two semi-finals conducted 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 with the two winners to compete in the grand final the following weekend. Clubs will compete under a zero salary cap for the 2020 season. Netball will remain an integral element of the MPNFL competition and operational staff will continue to work with clubs to ensure that this remains the case in 2020. Maintaining a strong community football/netball environment is a key factor in the strength of the MPNFL community. In the ever-changing and challenging environment caused by Covid-19, the collaboration between AFLSE and MPNFL Clubs has remained strong resulting in a combined position being reached by both parties. MPNFL clubs will be surveyed over the coming days to confirm their engagement in all levels of competition. AFLSE would like to thank the MPNFL clubs for their collaboration and look forward to taking further positive steps towards a start to the 2020 season
