18.01.2022 LOOKING for something to do this weekend? This Saturday 16th May @ 8PM, the Frankston Arts Centre is showing, KELLY, a Queensland Theatre Company production based on an "alternative history" to the Ned Kelly story.. for over a century, rumour persisted that Ned Kellys younger brother Dan, and fellow gang member, Steve Hart, escaped the burning Glenrowan Inn during the infamous LAST STAND by concealing themselves in an underground cellar before making their escape to QLD ...with the help of devoted sympathizers. In 2008, an archaeological excavation of the site in Glenrowan VIC was conducted by DIG International which conclusively verified that there was NO cellar on that particular structure, disproving the theory once and for all.. BUT, WHAT IF DAN KELLY & STEVE HART DID ESCAPE FROM GLENROWAN? QLD Playwright, Matthew Ryan, has created a fictional play based on Ned Kellys last night in the Old Melbourne Gaol. A priest who reveals himself to be Dan Kelly enters Neds cell to read him his last rites.. Dan is desperate and needs one last thing from his older brother and Ned stands firmly against him in his final hours.. "... a subtle, smart imagining of Ned Kellys last night alive charged with unfulfilled potential and torturous regret and deeply moving to the bitter end: 4.5 stars" - Brisbane Times PREVIEW - https://www.facebook.com//p.945519782145/945519782145806/ to purchase tickets online, click on the below link -

18.01.2022 some of Australias earliest history can be found along the Mornington Peninsula

18.01.2022 Information from the online Australian Dictionary of Biography says Major Condor was appointed Governor of Pentridge Gaol and Inspector of Prisons for Victoria from the 1st April 1922, and is reported to have "served a useful term as governor" before resigning on the 31st October 1923. http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/conder-walter-tasman-5747 Newspaper articles show that the gates at the Frankston Oval were constructed in June 1930 using prize money awarded to Frankston in t...he Sun News-Pictorials, Ideal Towns Competition (which was conducted 3 years before in 1927). The gates were created to commemorate Frankstons success in the competition of which the town led by many thousand votes in the public contest before being judged 2nd behind Beechworth. Frankston Timeline A Chronology to 1950 by Patricia Draper also states that the gates were erected using prize money from the Sun Ideal Town Competition with the guest of honour on the day being Keith Murdoch (later Sir), but it is highly doubtful Sir Keith Murdoch attended as although the Minister for Lands, Mr Bailey, and the owner of the newspaper holding the competition were invited to officially open the gates to Frankston Park at their convenience, a reply was mentioned at the Frankston and Hastings monthly meeting of December 1930 that the then State Premier, Mr. Hogan, and Mr. Keith Murdoch, were both unable to officially open the Frankston park gates and the new park. Further research has shown that the gates have never been officially opened. As demolition works on the female wing of the Melbourne Gaol began in 1929 to make way for the Working Mans College, it is possible that the gates were acquired from the Gaol for the beautification of Frankston Park, and very doubtful that the gates were acquired by Major Condor during his time as Governor of Pentridge and Inspector of Prisons of Victoria, 6 years before demolition works began. Past heritage studies commissioned by the Frankston Council in 1995 and 2010 which are available at the Frankston Library and online also show the gates at the Frankston Oval were erected c.1937, which is in-correct. Evidence that the Frankston Oval gates were in-fact purchased from the Melbourne Gaol remains to be seen.
