21.01.2022 Due to the current situation, that has sadly kept the railway closed to the public this school holidays, we have not been able to run our usual Spring holiday Superhero Special Train Rides. Our friend, Batman was so looking forward to giving us his time this year for a visit, and has offered to answer any children’s questions in a video message later this week. Can families please record your children asking a question, or two, for the caped crusader. We will then make sure ...it is sent off for his reply within the upcoming video. Please DM the railway as soon as possible so we can send them all in on Wednesday at 4pm. We look forward to bringing this holiday activity with a difference. Photo with thanks Yorsys Photography. 16.01.2022 6BCPL is a second class carriage with a guards van portion added to the end, this meant it was perfect for use as an end of train vehicle while still having passenger seating capacity. Whilst it may not currently look like much, since it has no wheels! However it’s body is in excellent condition with many potential uses in the future. 6BCPL was built as 6APL (First class) in 1922. In 1933 it was converted to 96BPL (Second Class). In 1959 it was once again converted back to ...6APL. In 1967 it underwent its final conversion, becoming its final designation of 6BCPL (Second class+Guard's compartment) It would serve in this role until 1983, when it was finally withdrawn from service. Then sitting stored for 4 months before being transferred to its new owner. 6BCPL’s new owner would be the McDonald’s fast food restaurant at Southland in Cheltenham. The bogies had been removed along with the truss rods, brakes and any other undergear components. It was placed alongside the building, and had a canopy roof installed over it. While at Cheltenham, it had its timber floor covered in tiles and McDonalds themed signs placed around the interior. Tables were also installed between the seats for restaurant patrons. It would stay at Cheltenham McDonalds for a number of years, until it was removed in the mid 2000s by the Mornington Railway, who had acquired it. Without any suitable undergear nor bogies to accommodate the carriage, it has been left on blocks for the time being. Externally the cladding has suffered somewhat in the elements, and the roof canvas is peeling up on the corners. But thanks to the time that was spent under the roof at Cheltenham, the carriage body is in much better condition than our other PL cars. While no plans about her future are yet decided upon, the potential may exist for 6 to one day return to the rails if the necessary undergear is sourced and all other requirements are met, for now she will continue to serve as the volunteer lunch room until such a time when she can carry passengers again.

12.01.2022 Some wonderful images from this Sunday taken by the team from Moorooduc Station Market. Will not be long before it comes around again on the 7th March.

The go-Fund Me page is still open for your contribution to the overhaul project. https://www.gofundme.com/f/keep-k163-going

06.01.2022 The Mornington Railway Preservation Society Inc. is embarking on a large project to refurbish a number of key components on our Green K Class Locomotive. The project will be exciting to follow and support, however a massive requirement from key technical volunteers and funding is required to complete these critical repairs. To support this project we hope to crowdfund $25,000 for the purchase of costly plain bearing and axle box material, complete machining of crank pins and ...turn K163's wheels to the right profile. A number of smaller tasks will also be completed on the K163. These tasks will help our K class continue to run into the future, as K163 is the lifeblood of the Mornington Railway, completion of these maintenance tasks are critical to the ongoing sustainability of the Mornington Railway. So why make a donation? - Any donation over $250 will be invited to receive progress updates on the K163 project, complimentary membership for 12 months and a complimentary family pass for a regular excursion train! - Any donation over $500 you will be invited to be amongst the first to have a short drive of K163 on a trundle day! - Any donation over $2000 and you will be invited to be amongst the first to drive a refurbished K163 with a premium driver experience! 01.01.2022 As our return draws closer we have to make some very important changes to how we are to welcome public back to the travel aboard our heritage carriages. One of the most significant of these to comply with Government guidelines greatly assisting with social distancing. When booking a ticket you will be sold an entire compartment on board, with a limit to the numbers within your group. Passenger limits will also be placed on each train to not exceed the total indoor capacity limits. We currently await the Government announcement further easing restrictions and thus potentially allowing greater capacities. #covidsafetymeasures #socialdistancing #morningtonpeninsula #familyouting #safe #peninsula #smallgroups #onlinebooking
