12.01.2022 Sailing at MYC is about creating a safe environment for children to explore and challenge themselves, a place for families to contribute and shape their community. Sailing is a challenging and rewarding sport. Wind and water are constantly changing as sailors adapt tactics, strategy, rules, resilience, self-confidence and teamwork. Sailing is physically and mentally demanding, promoting a healthy body and mind, critical thinking and decision making that help children suc...ceed throughout life. Check out this article by ASA acknowledging 5 Reasons Why All Kids Should Sail! https://asa.com//2017/10/03/5-reasons-why-all-kids-should/ If you want to get your child involved in sailing - now is the time! 08.01.2022 INTRODUCTION OF A NEW JUNIOR AND YOUTH SAILING PROGRAM A LIFELONG JOURNEY OF FAMILY, FRIENDSHIP & SAILING AT MORNINGTON YACHT CLUB In November 2020, Mornington Yacht Club will be introducing a new Junior and Youth Sailing Program that has been running successfully in other parts of Australia for many years. The program takes an active approach to learning, allowing young sailors to become confident and competent on the water as they develop into resilient and independen...t youth. At Mornington Yacht Club our key values are family, friendship and sailing, and our new program is centred around these values. We aim to provide access to an exciting sport in a family friendly environment, enabling participants to make new friends and develop into independent and resilient youth. Our objective is to provide sailors with the skills needed to enjoy their sport and to participate in the Club's activities at the level they feel comfortable with, allowing them to pursue a lifelong journey in sailing. Our program encourages active learning, as sailors utilize an educational framework amongst the constantly changing natural environment. As young sailors grow their confidence and competence in the sheltered waters of the Mornington harbour, their independence and resilience will be strengthened as they venture further into the Bay and along their sailing journey. Families are also encouraged to be involved in club life and assist in their child's sailing journey, as none of this is possible without the effort and commitment of sailors, coaches, volunteers and families. Each month, between November and March, the Club is offering the opportunity for 10 children to 'Try Sailing' for free for 4 Sundays. Participants will be provided with the use of an Optimist dinghy and life jacket for this period. At the conclusion of this free Try-Sailing month, families who choose to continue may apply to join the program and become a member, furthering their participation in the Club's activities and continuing their sailing journey. Expressions of interest for this Program are now open please visit the website, or follow this link https://www.morningtonyc.net.au/junior--youth-sailing-progr There are only 10 places available each month, so if you have a child or grandchild interested please register now!
