24.01.2022 http:// MASSIVE SHIFT IN ASSESSMENT & TREATMENT OF HEADACHES // Did you catch the story in The Age yesterday Treatment Aimed at the Source of the Pain about headache and migraines? The most recent research has caused a massive shift in the assessment and treatment of headaches.... It’s now considered CRUCIAL to examine the upper (cervical spine) neck when establishing the cause of headache and migraine. Authorities also now recognise that it can be difficult to single out a neck headache from a tension headache on symptoms alone. This often results in people being given at least two diagnoses sometimes three or four! A key indicator the upper neck is the source of headaches, is a temporary reproduction of head pain during an examination of the upper cervical spine. Once we have established that the pain can be reproduced, we try to determine if the pain can be also eased by examining the same area. The reproduction and easing of the pain is a tell-tale sign unique to the Watson Headache Approach, which we use here at the Mornington Peninsula Headache Clinic. The Watson Headache Approach has been featured on Channels 7, 9 and 10 in the past six months and is internationally recognised as a leading ‘hands-on’ neck examination and treatment approach. It has scientifically been shown to calm down the brainstem (better known as the headache/migraine centre) and if successful, results in significantly less headaches or none at all. You may have already had your neck examined and treated without success, but this doesn’t mean that your neck isn’t the cause! In fact 30% of people fall into this category. This Approach is different. There’s no manipulation or cracking. We address the cause of the chain reaction - not the consequence (muscle spasms) - which other treatment approaches ignore and only result in temporary improvement. If you or someone you know is tired of the merry go treatments, false promises or simply haven’t had your neck assessed by an expert, it’s time to get in touch. Comment HEADACHE below if you want to be free of headache & migraine and one of the team will reach out to you
