24.01.2022 The Root Cause of Plantar Fasciitis This picture of what your plantar fascia looks like. We all need to be concerned with how we load our plantar fascia tissue ...because plantar fasciitis can happen to anyone. Here is an analogy of how your plantar fascia works so we can better load it and learn to protect it. The plantar fascia a lot like a hammock. The hammock is rated for 300 pounds. As long as you stress it under 300 pounds it will last for years. It will serve you well. You weigh 180 pounds and it can easily handle the stress of your weight. Now lets say you start jumping on the hammock like its a trampoline. The new and different stress is not in line with its intended use. It does ok for a while, but with the new stress it starts to develop micro tears in the fabric. Continued jumping eventually causes big tears that leave the hammock useless. Now back to your plantar fascia. The plantar fascia tissue in your foot us much like that hammock. Muscle can gain more and more strength with good stress but connective tissue cannot. When chronically overstressed it tears with the stress. As we stand, walk and run the muscles and joints of the entire lower half of the body need to all be contributing to good pronation of the arch. The muscles do MOST of the work and the pf tissue just assists. The pf tissue contributes to that support but it has a recommended weight limit. If the muscles are not doing their job properly the pf tissue gets overloaded. You are now jumping on the hammock. You start going over the recommended weight limit. This is why shots, ice, surgery and orthotics are only treating the symptoms of plantar fasciitis. You need to get to the root cause, which is learning to load the arch better. Only treating the pf tissue is like trying to repair the tears in the hammock while you are still jumping on it. It might feel better for a while but the loading problem has not been solved. Remember the arch is a movement, not a body part. The arch movement acts like a perfect spring and shock absorber to appropriately accept force of movement. Here are a few things you can do today to stop jumping on the hammock. -do some barefoot movement where you arch can naturally pronate and absorb force -work on toe flexion and extension daily -get the big toe into an abducted position (away from the second toe) so it can control pronation and prevent over pronation -Wear shoes with a flexible sole so your foot can flex and bend and improve proprioception. -perform the single leg kettlebell swap and all the variations from the HFD post a few days ago -splay the toes and get them all moving -strengthen the hips and do hip stretches, especially hip extension -get into end range ankle dorsiflexion daily -reduce optional sitting -go for a walk in an unpadded shod state. barefoot or minimalist shoes on cement or another firm surface -Work on your deep squatting skill -work on your jumping skills -shake hands with your toes daily -ankle range of motion drills -stand with your forefoot on a raised surface for time. this builds stability in a ankle dorsiflexed state -foot texture exposure to wake up the thousands of nerves in your feet for good foot-brain communication

23.01.2022 Here is one main reason you have plantar fasciitis, or weak arches, or chronically injured feet. The hip and the arch are perfect matches for human movement. ... They compliment each other. The hip provides the power and stability and control of the arch. And In turn the arch provides shock absorption and spring like qualities. Without each other they kind of fail and moving. Now think about every step youve taken in your life where you had your arch supported. Every step you train the hip to not control the arch. The arch cant move. Its stuck in one position. The hip loses control and just shuts down. It gives up at being the engine behind movement. Remember the arch is a movement not a body part. Youve been training to not have an arch hip connection with every step in supportive shoes. The arch cant function long term without that hip connection and proper pronation. Its not allowed to pronate because its held up. With everything shut off the whole body is now hanging out on the plantar fascia tissue. And a chronic injury is the next step. More support wont get to the root cause. It might make it feel better for a while. But the two body parts still arent talking and they for sure arent working together.

19.01.2022 Science Says: One of our bodies most amazing abilities is self-healing. Just as our bodies automatically regulate breathing, digestion, and heart beat, our bodi...es heal. We often forget or underestimate this. But think of a paper cut, a bruise, or a child skinning his knee in a fall...then you see the body in action -- blood clotting, perhaps formation of a scab or a bruise, and finally the reabsorption of the blood in the case of a bruise or new skin (so shiny and new it may be visible as a scar) in the case of a scratch. This capacity is immense! Today, I celebrate my bodies capacity to heal!

19.01.2022 A picture says a thousand words. Your feet are the literal foundation for your whole body. An elevated heel can influence your pelvic to tilt forward, and when... too much, may cause back or even neck issues. This is all so that your body can maintain vertical upright posture and keep your eyes level so that you can see the horizon. Now imagine what this is like with high heels. And this isnt even considering what happens with narrow toe boxes. This is why choosing shoes with ZERO DROP matters!

18.01.2022 One of my most beloved Spiritual influences Bagwan Shree Rajneesh Osho once said If enlightenment gets hard, have a cup of tea. Facing some big catalytic chan...ges in my world and a cup of tea is a soothing balm. On a training call this morning, my brilliant teacher Claire Zammit, shared the importance of slowing down, in times of a breakdown and giving time for the amygla- flight or fight response- to settle and for the feeling to be named and validated before moving into response. If we slow down, Breathe, and hold space for what is happening, we can then come to a more peaceful place where we can move towards growth and possibility. I couldnt help but feel this is the same in times of big change. Give space, hold all of what is happening lovingly and be curious about the next steps. And then take the step with clarity and strength- not necessary knowing, but with trust and faith in the ultimate goodness of the universe. Too often I have shot from the hip, from emotion... all because I didnt take the time to slow down. It is awkward and uncomfortable to do at first. But I am getting better at it... and slowly, I am feeling the benefit. Thank God for the wisdom of mentors. And for tea. See more

15.01.2022 To me, this is a very powerful demonstration of how our motor system, especially at a tender age, responds to underfoot cushioning. It reveals the negative comp...eting effects of wearing thicker cushioned footwear during early and critical stages of human movement development: the childs trying to land stably, but finds difficulty in doing so as the thick, underfoot padding acts as a sensory barrier and mechanical interference that causes mobility impairments, a slowed reflexive-caution response that the body naturally employs when barefoot and may also slow and impair advances in functional mobility health as well. *Video credit- chriobro on Instagram.

02.01.2022 Tapping on your Thymus gland can also help you come back to your self, your centre, when you start picking up on other peoples emotions and feelings and not su...re any more where your feelings come from. If you start feeling like you are getting lost in the emotional ocean or if you feel physically weak (not mutually exclusive), remember to tap on your Thymus - you will feel the difference. This thump also puffs up your aura, which contributes to feeling more centred, more safe, stronger, grounded and just yourself. A great thump for the Empaths out there! A really good one for all the rare Fires out there, too, as it is a part of the Heart Chakra. Or for anyone who is slightly stressed... I recommend to breathe slowly as you thump on your Thymus and align the speed of the tapping with your heartbeat. It will relax your Triple Warmer (the over-reactive Flight and Fight system that needs to be evolved in these modern times). You can add consciousness to this simple exercise, if you think "I am my own self. I am strong. I am safe. I stand calm and confident in my Own Power". #YourHealthInYourHands

02.01.2022 We hate symptoms. But, we should love them. A symptom is a result of your bodys vitality. It is a signal to your body to heal. Coughing, sneezing, pain, fev...er, fatigue, rash, swelling.... All love letters from your body. All occur in attempt to heal tissue, eliminate metabolic waste or toxins, increase blood flow for example. All physiological symptoms to get back to a state of optimization. There are exceptions, but for the most part, its part of an attempt to repair. To heal. Your body loves you. Love it back. Love is Medicine See more
