24.01.2022 Ever wondered what else we get up to when there are (thankfully) no fires? In the last couple of weeks, we’ve helped out at the speedway, the trailblazers equestrian event (delivering around 22,000 liters of water to thirsty horses), and attended the motor vehicle accident on north head drive. Here’s some pics Thanks to our awesome members who love to help our community!

18.01.2022 Leaving early is the safest option, what will be your trigger to leave? Do you have a bushfire survival pack? Download one now from... https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/resources/bush-fire-survival-plan And discuss with your family what you will do.

15.01.2022 We hope you’ve all had a lovely Easter long weekend! Hasn’t it been great to see so many people visiting our town and enjoy the stunning weather! (aside from the traffic chaos of course ;)). This weeks meet the members series is our wonderful Steve Bailey. Steve is such an asset to our brigade and we are blessed to have him in our team. Not only does Steve currently perform the duties of President, he puts a lot of time and effort into training our newer members, which we ar...e all so grateful for. Steve’s story: I originally joined the Bodalla Rural Fire Brigade in 2013 to support my daughter who was a new junior member at the time. After travelling to the state championships with our junior team and meeting our then Commissioner Mr Shane Fitzsimmons, I was inspired to further participate and contribute in a more meaningful way and as such, took up a committee position as Secretary/Treasurer along with Training and First Aid Officer for the Brigade. I learned an awful lot in those first years under the guidance and tutelage of the more senior members who were only too happy to share their wealth of knowledge with a willing student. A change of residency in 2018 resulted in my transferring my membership from Bodalla to the Moruya Brigade where I was welcomed and made to feel right at home. The leadership, camaraderie, and team support in the face of adversity during the many long hours spent facing last year’s horrendous bush fires has definitely been inspiring from my perspective. As President of the brigade, I can honestly say I am proud of the efforts of all our team in helping to save homes and help reduce the negative impact of the fires on our region. With our current team of enthusiastic new members, we look forward to further growth and continuing to serve our community over the coming years. Don’t forget, there are heaps of different roles you can play in the RFS, fire fighting is just one of those.. come and chat to us on Thursday nights if you’d like to know more :)

11.01.2022 Please stay well clear of flood waters. Only be out on the road if absolutely necessary.

11.01.2022 Over the past 2 days, Moruya brigade has attended 3 incidents, a tree fire which was an accidental cause, a car fire which was not suspicious and a bin fire started by unknown cause. Let these be a good reminder to everyone to watch where you park your car, just because the grass looks green doesn't always mean it wont burn, and to also be careful how you discard things in the bin especially cigarette butts. At least 2 if not all 3 incidents could have been avoidable with a little more care taken.

11.01.2022 Do not depend on a firetruck being available at your home. But if you and your home are well prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire. There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it for a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home. 11.01.2022 First and foremost, the members of Moruya rural fire brigade hope that our wider community are safe, dry and warm right now! Facebook ironically reminded me that 10 years ago today, I was in Wollongong, and nobody could get to work because of the flooding. So much has happened in the last 10 years hasn’t it?!!! Id like to introduce one of our new members, the lovely Brad! You may know Brad from your visits to Woolworths in Moruya, and if you don’t, be sure to say hi to him ...Tell us a bit about yourself Brad... I am 23 and have been with the RFS for six months. I’ve been helping out the Brigade for over 12 months though. When I’m not fighting fires I work in retail (say hi to me when you’re next in Woollies!). My hobbies and passions are cycling, photography and spending time in the great outdoors. I joined the RFS because I was deeply affected by the 2003 Canberra bushfires. We nearly lost our home and I like to give back to the community. When I moved to the south coast towards the end of 2018, I had an opportunity to join my local RFS brigade. I have met so many new people and made new friends doing this, I won’t swap it out for a heartbeat! Thanks for reading, if there’s anything you’d like us to post about, please take the time to comment here!

09.01.2022 Tomorrow is a high fire danger rating day. You can see by this fire in Currarong that despite all the rain in the past few months, fires can still spread very fast. Take some time on the long weekend to prepare your property and your fire plan... and of course, enjoy the long weekend :)

08.01.2022 From today if you’re planning to burn off, you can notify online www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

01.01.2022 Well I don’t know about you, but this is a nice read! We know the Eurobodalla community are far from fully recovered from our 19/20 devastation, and some are now facing the clean up efforts from the recent rain event, but we can’t help but be grateful that we had a quiet fire season.
