19.01.2022 This week we're celebrating #flashbackfriday with a unique piece by Jody Broun. The 15th National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award was the first time an urban-based artist has won the Telstra First Prize. Jody Broun won for the painting titled Whitefellas Come to Talk Bout Land. The Judges; Professor Howard Morphy and Doreen Mellor, commended the visual strength of Whitefellas Come Talk Bout Land, with its dramatic colouring of red earth beneath a glaring blue sky... and the unusual fish eye lens perspective used by the artist, a reference to aerial perspective of Western Desert style painting. Appropriate to reflect on this in light of this years NAIDOC theme - Always was always will be. #mossensongalleries #mossensonartfoundation #westaustralianartist #artinitiative #contemporaryartist #chineseartist #covid_19 #racistcomments #artofourtimes #artexhibition #worththevisit

17.01.2022 We're loving this year's NAIDOC Week poster by Tyrown Waigana, a Perth based artist and designer. Shape of Land was judged by the National NAIDOC Committee to have best illustrated the 2020 NAIDOC theme:Always Was Always Will Be. Waigana, a proud Noongar and Saibai Islander, has previously been named as one of WA’s best new and emerging Indigenous artists. The 23-year-old says winning entry depicts the Rainbow Serpent coming out of the Dreamtime to create this country and ho...w we are strongly connected to it. The Rainbow Serpent is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - always was, and always will be Aboriginal land, Mr Waigana added. #alwayswasalwayswillbe #naidocweek2020 #perthartists
