25.01.2022 Many qualified aromatherapists will tell you that adverse events and reactions are on the rise. Although some businesses are collating information on this, it ...is a hugely an under reported area within the aromatic community. In my Instagram feed recently @j_stokesparish presented a summary of EO poisonings and the rise of poisonings, all with references. Whilst I can’t list all her references here, head over to her Instagram page, and check it out https://www.instagram.com/p/CHHpFCYjOST/?igshid=lvu3wb83450u Why am I sharing this? To remind you that ingestion of essential oils is risky when done by someone with little to no training, the well meaning friend or the at-home user. Ingestion is not the best route, nor the safest. It’s not a case of can it be done, it’s a matter of whether it should be done, and whether it is going to help achieve the health goal. As always, speak with an appropriately qualified practitioner before undertaking risky methods of use.

25.01.2022 The stress of living through this pandemic can feel completely overwhelming at times! My mood has been up and down like a rollercoaster! How about you? Our bodies are made to cope with mild and/or intermittent stress. However prolonged periods of stress can begin to have a detrimental effect on our physical health, as well as our mental wellbeing. Thank goodness for my essential oils! They are the first thing I turn to when feeling flat or anxious or teary or frustrated or ...angryI’ve felt all of these emotions recently. Yes, there have been moments of joy, gratitude and contentment. But I’m finding it takes a bit more work to get there, or stay there. I’m sure I’m not alone here. Using aromatherapy to help de-stress can be as simple as finding an aroma you like, something you’re drawn to in that moment. Perhaps incorporating that essential oil or blend into a meditation practice, or your morning or bedtime ritual. If aromatherapy doesn’t gel with you, discover your special way to unwind and de-stress. Yoga (my personal fave), meditation, being outdoors, or even enjoying a simple pleasure such as cup of tea or a walk in the park. Studies have shown that having a pleasant experience can stimulate immunity for up to two days and spending time in nature has many positive effects on both our physical and psychological well-being. What’s been your go-to to help de-stress during this time? #wellnesswednesday #aromatherapy #aromatherapymassage #clinicalaromatherapy #clinicalaromatherapist #essentialoils #essentialoils101 #massage #massagetherapy #massageenvy #massager #natural #wellness #holistic #holistichealing #wellpreneur #liveinspired #mindbodysoul #smallbusiness #smallbusinessowner #b2c #womeninbusiness #local #localbrand #family

25.01.2022 I’ve had so many clients contact me over the past few weeks, anxious to return for a massage. I’m sorry to say that at this stage it’s not possible. BUT - if the numbers keep reducing it appears I’ll be back in action on the 19th October. I promise to keep clients updated via email and social media. ... In the meantime, my family are enjoying a few extra treatments to help me get my massage mojo back. No complaints from them!

24.01.2022 Looking forward to sharing my passion & wisdom with ACU student midwives this evening

23.01.2022 As a clinical aromatherapist, I’ll ask you to smell different essential oils before I create a blend specific for your treatment plan. Here's why. Everyone’s sense of smell is different Smell is linked to memory Smell is highly emotive... Let’s say you detest spearmint. If I created a blend with that scent, it’s unlikely you’ll use it. And so your ailment won’t be treated. That’s where my 20+ years as a clinical aromatherapist becomes even more valuable. I know how to substitute essential oils, while ensuring the blend is perfect for you and your treatment. If you’d like to speak to me about how clinical aromatherapy could help you, please send me a DM.

20.01.2022 When the weather turns cold, do you shut doors, close windows and turn up the heater? That’s hibernation at its best, don’t you think? (Especially whilst in lock down at home) But you see, while the house becomes warm, there’s a risk the air may become stale. And that can lead to all sorts of health issues.... So here’s my tips to freshen up stale air: Open a few doors and windows for a short time. Having the windows open slightly ajar will help. Open more than one window or door to help the air circulate. Slice one orange and add to a pot of boiling water, along with a teaspoon of ground ginger. Gently simmer and top up the water if it runs low. Pop some essential oils into a diffuser, lemon or lemon myrtle is my pick. Add a few drops of essential oil to a spray bottle with water, shake well, then spray a mist around the house. I love using a pine scent because it makes the house smell like a forest with fresh mountain air. I always prefer to use natural scents rather than chemical-laden stuff you buy in the supermarkets. Any other tips you’d add to freshen up stale air? Media Source: https://unsplash.com/photos/a8dzCkk-SGE Photo by Rod Long on Unsplash

19.01.2022 Today is International Day of the Midwife! This year on 5th May, International Day of the Midwife (IDM) coincides with the launch of the State of the World’s Midwifery (SoWMy) Report 2021. Co-led by ICM, UNFPA, and WHO SoWMy 2021 brings the latest evidence on the critical importance of investing in quality midwifery care to the forefront of global health discussions. For that reason, the theme for IDM this year is Follow the Data: Invest in Midwives.... Investing in #midwives saves lives, improves health and strengthens health systems. Investment in midwives is a cost-effective approach to improving health outcomes for mothers and babies and reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and stillbirth. Today I recognise the amazing midwives who supported me through my pregnancy and birth journeys midwife friends and colleagues all midwives caring for women and their families around the world, some in extremely difficult environments.

14.01.2022 Do you have one of these little bottles from your treatment with me? You may even have a small collection by now! If you’re unsure how best to use the oil blend, you can always contact me to discuss. Many blends have various benefits and applications. For example, during your consult and treatment you may have chosen essential oils to help improve your sleep. Now you are sleeping better but have increased muscular tension or headaches or a cough. This same blend may still be... beneficial! Alternatively, if you’d love some more of your personalised blend, larger quantities can be purchased or the same blend made into an aroma roll-on or inhaler. I know you are missing your massages I am missing you too! I can’t wait to get back into clinic; at this stage I am not certain when that will be. 13.01.2022 #womenshealthweek DID YOU KNOW? Various studies show that the majority of people seeking complementary therapy treatments are women. This definitely appears true in the practise of aromatherapy. ... 09.01.2022 WHAT’S YOUR ISO TAKE-AWAY? Living in isolation has forced some big changes in people’s lives. Some changes we will not miss, but like many people I’m reluctant to let some of these go. Did you implement a new practice or routine in your daily life that you’re keen to keep? ... After participating in a restorative yoga course and a pranayama and meditation series, I have really come to value rest more. And noticed how beneficial it’s been for my mental health. I don’t want to lose this as we jump back into the hustle of usual life. I am always encouraging women, mums especially, to find those little pockets of time to just stop. Why does it seem impossible to find 5-10 minutes in our day to rest? And yet this same amount of time appears insignificant if that’s all we have to get a job done. A little, more often, and it becomes a habit. Take that moment for yourself each day, whether it’s two minutes or ten.

09.01.2022 Mother Nurture will be getting a makeover! A much-needed new website is on the agenda. What Mother Nurture products do you love and want to see continued?... Is there a particular product you would love to see added to my range?

09.01.2022 This is so beautiful!! It's not only scents that have a profound effect on our memory; but music too

08.01.2022 Women are often the carers and forget that they need nurturing too. We really do need to fill our own cup so we have the reserves to care for others. Essential oils have the ability to address physical and emotional issues and can easily be incorporated into daily self-care rituals. Some of my favourite essential oils for nurturing and nourishing women of all ages include rose, geranium, lavender, bergamot and fragonia. Make yourself a priority. 07.01.2022 It’s International Men’s Health Week 14th-20th June. I am often asked Do you treat men as well? The answer is yes. Whilst women obviously make up a large proportion of my clientele, men are always welcome. Dads need nurturing too! ... Men can benefit from massage as well as aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is often seen as women’s business despite many of the amazing teachers and pioneers in the world of professional aroma-therapy being men. The men in my circle of family and friends have benefited greatly from a wide range of aromatic remedies, for both their physical and mental wellbeing. We tend to relate the stronger, woody scents such as sandalwood, spruce and petitgrain to men. But a little jasmine, rose or lavender may be just what they need or prefer. It is very individual. What scents are the men in your life drawn to? Media Source: https://unsplash.com/photos/TkrRvwxjb_8 Photo by Matheus Ferrero on Unsplash

I would recommend booking 2 weeks in advance if possible. If you can’t find a suitable appointment time online, please contact myself or the clinics directly. 07.01.2022 When I teach infant massage classes, it’s perfectly ok if: You need to breastfeed, there’s a chair/ private area if needed Your baby needs to be changed, there’s a change table You come alone or with your partner/ spouse/ family member... Your baby is asleep, you can use a doll You ask questions Your baby cries You cry I cry (yes, sometimes this happens) I’ve recently started face to face infant massage classes again for small groups and private sessions. You can choose from an introductory class or a 3-session course; classes run for around 1 hour. Massaging your baby is a wonderful bonding activity and is fun to learn. 06.01.2022 Sorting out some research papers after a recent presentation. Whilst we would like to see more research on the use of essential oils (not always that easy) it’s encouraging to find new clinical evidence and case studies being shared and published. It’s important for aromatherapists, like any profession, to keep up to date. The learning never ends I usually run an annual workshop for midwives and birth practitioners face to face unfortunately not happening this year! How...ever, an online workshop could be an option.
