21.01.2022 My heart cries every time I meet a young girl or boy because I know the challenges they will grow up with are huge. Sometimes, I share my lived experiences with those who feel that the world has ended for them because of their physical disability and it gives them confidence to live life positively That’s Almah, a Prosthetist Orthotist from PNG and one of Motivation Australia’s partners. Almah and Motivation Australia have been working together for over a decade and we are ...so proud of the work she has achieved Almah has had opportunities, and her positive attitude to life and hard work has helped her make the most of them. Now she wants to create opportunities for other women and girls like her in remote towns. Her ambition to improve services for women and girls, is driving the expansion of the National Orthotics and Prosthetics Service (NOPS) into more provinces of PNG. Read Almah’s full story on our website at the link below https://bit.ly/3614SxZ

19.01.2022 Celebrating a historical event - the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Assistive Devices Forum! The first forum to bring together stakeholders from all over PNG happened seven years ago today The energetic participation of all attendees brought out vital ideas that helped shape the National Guidelines on the Provision of Assistive Technology published two years later. While the way we gather has changed, ensuring everyone can share their insight and guide initiatives that affect them will always be a keystone of Motivation Australia's work

17.01.2022 Last week, Tom paid a visit to his old campus at UniSA, where he spoke with 4th year podiatry students about where podiatry has taken him. Tom shared his journey, from graduating to working as a Podiatrist in rural and remote areas of Australia volunteering in Tonga and now as a member of the Motivation Australia team The students, who are about to graduate, were excited to hear about work and volunteer opportunities that are a little different to the more traditio...nal podiatry pathways. They were also keen to learn about the work of Motivation Australia, our partners, and how they can get involved in the future. Although we won’t be visiting our partners in person just yet, there are still lots of ways to get involved in our work. Check out the link below to learn about volunteering with MA. We look forward to working with the students and staff at the Uni SA Podiatry Clinic again soon and wish the students all the best for this next chapter in their careers https://www.motivation.org.au/get-involved/volunteer/ #UNISA #volunteering #podiatry

15.01.2022 It is incredible how far technology has come since Motivation Australia first started working with our partners in Papua New Guinea over a decade ago Communication between services has always been a challenge for the National Orthotics and Prosthetics Service (NOPS). Transport and internet are costly and have not always been available. NOPS personnel across seven clinics are now meeting regularly to discuss client services, strengthen data collection systems, and network w...ith fellow physiotherapy department personnel on services, client rehabilitation and multi-disciplinary care. These meetings strengthen the capacity of personnel, services and the entire rehabilitation and assistive technology sector in Papua New Guinea, which is magnificent to see! Motivation Australia and NOPS would like to thank the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade a for funding internet data costs through the the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) #PartnershipsForRecovery

13.01.2022 On this day five years ago, we celebrated the training of 20 Health Service Assistant students from the Australia Pacific Technical College who learned how to assess, provide, and train users of walking aids. Building the capacity of local services is at the core of our work, enabling more people to stay healthy and access assistive technology to participate fully in their communities. Although we can’t be with our partners in person today, we are excited for the upcoming re...mote training that is in the works. In the meantime, we love seeing and supporting our partners as they deliver their own training Just this week the team from the National Referral Hospital in the Solomon Islands is providing basic wheelchair service provision training to local students. Stay tuned to find out how it goes! #assistivetechnology

TAP is an online interactive training, which aims to support global efforts in increasing access to AT. We are thrilled to share that TAP will be ...a pioneering feature of the new WHO AcademyWhen reflecting on the news, MA’s Founder and Board Member Kylie said, ... the fact that it’s been selected for inclusion in the Academy is good news in that it demonstrates how much support there is for the topic. 03.01.2022 What's the difference between a bar of soap and a 3D printed foot? One could be the newest MA training resource! Over the past couple of weeks, the team at MA has been learning about 3D printing. Our in-house expert Ray, ran a demo in the office. Then, the team set off to UniSA for a demonstration by the Uni SA Podiatry Clinic team. 3D printing is an effective learning tool for health students. Podiatry students in particular can grow their confidence in a range of areas su...ch as wound management, infection control, applying dressings, offloading pads, and enhanced scalpel skills. Practicing removing corns and callus’ for example, on a 3D printed foot provides a much more lifelike experience. Without 3D printing, students practice in less lifelike scenarios such as initially, using a bar of soap. Thanks so much to UniSA who will be donating four 3D printed feet to MA These donations will provide our training participants with hands-on experience and grow their confidence in the workplace! #3dprinting #UNISA
