25.01.2022 The Four Gospels a New Video Series, # 1: Mark Gospel means "good news" as in the good news of Jesus. There are 4 Gospels in the Bible written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. This 4 video series sourced from BibleProject.com will have a look at each Gospel and its author, with Sam saying the prayer for each Gospel writer from A Prayer Book for Australia at the end. There is also a workbook and coloring sheet each week available on the Children’s Ministry page of our website. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faZpCYhqpcE

22.01.2022 Message from the Vicar, April 5, 2020 from the Home page of our Website Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:2)... Welcome, or welcome back, to the Home Page of the website of Mount Eliza Anglican Church. I rejoice if you have come to seek some resources for worship and prayer to sustain and encourage your faith. You will find resources for our Palm Sunday Service here, and by Wednesday evening there will be material available for both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday that will be on the Online Sunday Services page. Don't forget the Children's Ministry resources: Sam will be reading a story and providing some activity suggestions for children for both Palm Sunday and, from Wednesday evening, Good Friday. In this time, we find ourselves bereft of the usual supports and routines that carry us along. Self-discipline is hard in keeping up our fitness be it physical health and diet, our wellbeing and mental health, and our spiritual health. Going to gym or to church are helpful routines for their associated fitness, but now were on our own. It is ironic that despite having more time, it is also easy for that time to be frittered away in distraction, especially in these first days to weeks of the pandemic. Maybe now, though, we can be more constructive with our time and space and learn to focus on those disciplines that make us whole. An extra resource particularly for this week - Holy Week - that contains prayers, readings and devotions for each day of the week that we walk alone (with Jesus) toward the cross is available to download below. It may help us to remember that Jesus, after being welcomed into Jerusalem by the crowds on Palm Sunday, then moves towards the isolation of the cross by the Friday. Perhaps our own isolation and restriction on what we would normally be doing this week will give us a new perspective to reflect on. The resource, called Holy Week at Home, was compiled by Bishop Brad Billings and contains devotions and prayers by The Rev Dr Peter Adam for the diocesan Prayer Diary App. As we travel through this next week, may we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18) God be with you. Jennie http://mteliza.melbourneanglican.org.au/

16.01.2022 Many of you may know that the church was the subject of a graffiti attack over the weekend. Whilst it was disappointing to see this vandalism occur, it has been heartening to see the response from the wider community. Several people who are not a part of the regular worshipping community took the opportunity to offer their time and services to help us get rid of the graffiti. We were very fortunate to have the council graffiti team come over and get rid of all the damage o...n the main church and we just have a small area on the hall that will need further attention. Jennie wrote to the church earlier this week making the following points: "While it is unsightly, the sight of it is more of a reflection upon the perpetrator/s and I ask you to pray for them that they may turn onto a better path than the one which causes them to want to inflict damage. Remember Jesus carries his scars, and these ones on our church we can endure for a few days. If anything, let them lead us to reflect on our Saviour. The justice of God is concerned with restoration, putting things to right, rather than revenge. God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) " We, the people, are the church and it has been good to see the church in action this week.

15.01.2022 A Prayer for Remembrance Day Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, and ask that ... God may give us peace: For the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God; May God give peace, God give peace For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss; May God give peace, God give peace For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; May God give peace, God give peace For civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity; May God give peace, God give peace For peace-makers and peace-keepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free; May God give peace, God give peace For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership, political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace. May God give peace, God give peace O God of truth and justice, we hold before you those whose memory we cherish, and those whose names we will never know. Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world, and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm. As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future; for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever. Amen. First published 2005 by CTBI

13.01.2022 On the first Sunday in October we usually have a service for the Blessing of the Pets. Although we cannot meet and greet one another's furry and feathered friends in person, we can still stop and give thanks for them today. Let us pray: Holy Creator we thank you for the fellowship of our pets and all other creatures, ... we celebrate their God-given lives, and pray we may have compassionate hearts in caring for them and for all your creation. Amen. You might like to put a photo of you and your pet with their name under this video. And now a blessing for your pet: Fellow creature, friend and companion; may God your creator and preserver, bless, defend, and keep you this day and for ever. Amen. All being well, if safe, we will have a Sunday in January or February to bring your pets to church for a special service. Keep an eye on our Facebook page or website.

06.01.2022 Join us from 5pm Sunday March 15 as we explore more of the Joseph narrative from Genesis 47:1-28 and what it means for us here and now.

06.01.2022 Message from the Vicar, 6:00pm AEDT, March 20, 2020. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:2) It is my prayer that we will seek and find peace in God as we live through these unprecedented changes that COVID-19 has affected throughout the world.... As of 6:00pm AEDT, March 20, 2020, it is intended that this Sunday, March 22, will be the last of our public services held until restrictions related to the COVID-19 are lifted. All parish activities and small groups including Playgroup have been suspended. This is likely to continue for 4-6 months. There will be updated resources available on this website to enable worship and prayer in your own space and with those you are able to be with. We already upload each Sundays sermon as a podcast/audio file within 24 hours of the service (more than 30 are available) and this will continue. From Sunday, March 29, a PDF of the worship service will be made available. We will be looking at other ways of being in communication with the digital resources we have. On Sunday March 22, we ask those attending to observe Federal Government imposed hygiene instructions and allow yourselves to be seated as directed by our ushers with the recommended social distance (1.5-2 metres) between one another, allowing 4 square metres per person indoors. If you are unwell or have concerns about possible infection, please remain at home for your safety and for others. Do let us know though so we can keep in touch and pray for you as we trust you will pray for us. As of March 22, our hall and commercial kitchen will be closed and not available for hire. Further updates and resources to encourage and sustain us will be posted here. God be with you. Jennie

06.01.2022 Week 6 of our series. This week we discover that we can find God at Church! That might seem a bit strange at the moment when we arent allowed to gather together in the church buildings to worship and meet together. But, the church isnt just the buildings, the church is really Gods people, everywhere. So the question is how can we worship God in these strange times when we cant physically gather together and also, how can we be the church every day, wherever we are? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqWCUKgll7k&feature=youtu.be

05.01.2022 Message from the Vicar, 3 May, 2020 Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him...As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, St...Continue reading

05.01.2022 This week we celebrate the Trinity, God who is known to us as Father, Son, and Spirit; or, Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. Whatever names are used, we learn that God is a God of relationship, a perfect unity within, but also a unity that then turns outward, reaching out toward us, to include us in Gods community of love. Some years ago I heard an inspiring talk about the DNA of the church (the people) as it takes after its God. Ponder these points as they apply to us as ch...urch both when gathered and dispersed: 1. Being Trinitarian. a. The Trinity is our God in relationship. b. Our God is not a solitary individual who withdraws or keeps to himself. c. Our God is three who are so united that our God is one. d. And our Gods oneness in the Trinity is not exclusive, rather turns outwards to include others. e. In imitation of the Trinity, the church community has a loving relationship within, and also one that overflows out to others. f. The Trinity is deeply interconnected and interdependent. g. Each needs and desires the other in its life. 2. Being incarnational like Jesus. a. The Trinity willingly underwent change for us. b. God proved his love for us that while we still were sinners, (Romans 5:8) Jesus died for us. c. Jesus, as the second member of the Trinity, willingly lay aside status and preference for us. (Philippians 2:.6-8) d. Jesus called people into Gods love through relationships, going out to be alongside people. 3. Being transformational. a. The work of the Trinity goes beyond itself to a much wider realm. b. We are not about a personal kingdom on our own patch but being part of a greater transforming power for the whole world. The Trinity is not just an interesting way of describing God but is the very shape of who we are as church, as Gods people. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. 2 Corinthians 13:13 God be with you, Jennie (Vicar) For our online service resources go to: http://mteliza.melbourneanglican.org.au/our-online-sunday-s See more
