13.01.2022 You don't see many greyhounds win at odds of over 100 but Super Fay did just that in her win yesterday at Mount Gambier paying $103.10 on the Tote! Trained by Dita Mitchell, the win was the 6th of the daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Cee Me Burst's career and her second in a row so you probably won't see her at those kind of odds again!

12.01.2022 The 277m track record has been smashed by Shima Breeze, clocking 16 seconds flat!

11.01.2022 It was a big day at Mount Gambier for trainer Tim Aloisi who claimed the quinella in Sunday's Bourne Kennels Mount Gambier Cup with Sunset Milo winning by a nose over kennelmate Kipling in a classic finish. Owned by Aloisi and Matt Lehman, Sunset Milo started as the race favourite after a blistering 29.29 heat win and jumped well from box 3 but it was kennelmate Kipling from box 6 who began the best. Finding himself ahead of Sunset Milo at the first turn, Kipling led the ent...ire trip before the favourite found the rail on the home straight and managed to just get his nose in front when it mattered to claim a memorable win in 29.42 seconds. Rough Pearl ran a great race finishing in third place for Lee Bartholomew while Sandown Cup winner Rajasthan, also trained by Aloisi, ran on well in fourth. Well done to all connections on a great win! See more

09.01.2022 KD initiates ‘Catch for Cash’ Mount Gambier identity Kevin KD Douglas involved in the three racing codes has furthered his association with greyhound racing by taking out an attendant’s licence. Already an owner, KD’s licence allows him to catch greyhounds at trial and race fixtures, something he has now done at Tara Raceway’s past two Thursday meetings.... Kevin KD Douglas in action as a catcher at last Thursday’s Tara Raceway meeting. With the COVID-19 restrictions in place at the moment I figured the only way I was going to be able to take in a local greyhound meeting was to complete the mandatory licence requirements in front of a steward and then help out trainers requiring a catcher for their greyhounds, he said. It didn’t end there, though, for KD, also well known for his charity work. Seems he was also looking for a worthwhile way to utilise his Thursday afternoons in Tara Raceway’s catching area surrounded by slobbery greyhounds all seeking one last look at the lure. What I came up with was a format called ‘Catch for Cash’ whereby any trainer whose greyhound I catch can, if he or she so desires, place a gold coin in the jar that will be placed in the clubrooms when I am in attendance. KD’s charity of choice for the Catch for Cash gold-coin-in-the-jar initiative is the Sunset Community Kitchen, which provides meals for people in need, at the John Frew Centre (Frew Park) on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 6 and 6.30. A considerable amount of food is donated by local business houses and then prepared by volunteers. I see the ‘Catch for Cash’ initiative as a small way of assisting with the costs incurred by the Sunset Community Kitchen, KD said. Look, don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to catch greyhounds for any trainer gold coin or no gold coin but the Sunset Kitchen does do a terrific job at Frew Park for people doing it tough. I’d like to think we could fill the jar by the end of the year and then have a Sunset Kitchen representative come out to Tara Raceway on a race day to accept the proceeds.

09.01.2022 Sunset Milo made a huge impression in Heat 3 of the Mount Gambier Cup finishing just .01 seconds off the track record in a big win! Having his first start in SA for trainer Tim Aloisi, the black dog stepped well from box 2 to lead the field into the first turn and was too strong, running on to finish in a fantastic 29.29 seconds. The current record is held by Rockoon who ran 29.28 seconds back in July 2018. Sunset Milo has drawn box 3 and looks set for another big run in Sunday's final.

08.01.2022 GRSA advises that the meeting set down at Mount Gambier on Sunday 15th March has been cancelled due to a lack of nominations.

06.01.2022 MOUNT GAMBIER TRAINERS REQUIRED GRSA has reached out to participants who reside just across the border (up to 150km over the Victorian border) who would normally support the Mount Gambier GRC. These participants were keen to continue racing at Mount Gambier, however government restrictions currently prevent that from happening. We have asked these participants if they would consider sending greyhounds to an SA kennel, to be trained in SA during the COVID-19 period. GRSA estim...ate there may be around 15-20 greyhounds from these Victoria trainers that could be sent across the border. The Mount Gambier GRC and GRSA are seeking expressions of interest from trainers within the Mount Gambier region to assist with - (a) can you assist these western district Victorian trainers by temporarily training their greyhounds, and if yes (b) how many additional greyhounds could you accommodate at your premises Please contact the Mount Gambier GRC or GRSA if you are able to assist during this time and we can then provide further information.

01.01.2022 Important announcement: greyhound racing to resume with only essential persons on course!

01.01.2022 MOUNT GAMBIER GREYHOUND MEETINGS TO RELY ON STRONG LOCAL PARTICIPANT SUPPORT While SA greyhound racing has been given the green light to continue, race meetings at Mount Gambier’s Tara Raceway now more than ever will be relying on strong support from local participants. This follows the SA State Government’s announcement this week regarding cross border movement which means Greyhound Racing SA will be unable to accept nominations from interstate trainers for any forthcoming r...ace meetings. This, of course, will have a huge impact on racing at Mount Gambier which historically has relied upon a large percentage of Victorian trainers bringing their greyhounds to Tara Raceway for both Thursday and Sunday race meetings. However, impacted Victorian participants will be able to continue to race in their state, having access to the relatively close tracks of Warrnambool, Horsham and Ballarat. GRSA Racing Manager Shaun Mathieson said the SA State Government had also stated that there would be some exemptions from the cross border restrictions. Residents who live near the border and make frequent crossings for essential goods and services can be classified as exempt. So, if an interstate trainer can gain specific exemption from the SA Government to race his or her greyhounds in SA during the coronavirus cross border movement ban, then GRSA will accept their nominations subject to the appropriate documentation being presented by the trainer, he said. Further to on-track attendance at all current SA greyhound meetings is this week’s announcement that until further notice only licensed trainers with greyhounds engaged, catchers and essential staff will be granted access.
