18.01.2022 The Scott Group of Companies Mount Gambier Gold Cup scheduled for Friday 4 December 2020 will be postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions and the ongoing revitalisation of the course proper. Mount Gambier Racing Club General Manager Brett Watson said the club will make a decision regarding a future date for the event in the new year. The club recognises the importance of the Gold Cup event to the Mount Gambier social calendar and the prestige this event has amongst trainers an...d owners, however due to the uncertainties presented by COVID-19 and the ongoing work on the track to reduce the poa weed infestation we are unable to proceed on the date scheduled. The committee will make a decision regarding the revised date in early 2021, Mr Watson said. We thank our sponsors, stakeholders, members and trainers and the local community for their understanding of this decision in what we recognise has been a disruptive year on many fronts. Meetings scheduled for Mount Gambier during this current period have been relocated to other venues by TRSA.

09.01.2022 Elm Lane The Mount Gambier Racing Club have made the difficult decision to completely remove the elm trees either side of Elm Lane that leads into the race course from Ruwoldt Road into the race course precinct. The trees in question are in excess of 90 years old, and pose a significant safety risk to both people and vehicles accessing the race course and to property in the vicinity.... Given the popularity of Elm Lane as a photographic location this decision has not be made lightly but, the safety of people and property is paramount. General Manager Brett Watson said unfortunately due to the significant age of the trees in Elm Lane they have deteriorated to an extent where they have become unstable and unpredictable. The last thing we want to happen is for a tree to fall causing significant damage or quite possibly have fatal consequences. All the trees are in an advance state of deterioration and our only course of action is to have them removed. The club has undertaken an extensive investigative process in consultation with a qualified arborist, but in the end have been left with no alternative other than for all the trees to be removed. We understand that this will no doubt disappoint many people but unfortunately the course of action needing to be taken is unavoidable. The area will be replanted to retain the aesthetics of the lane," Mr Watson said.
