25.01.2022 Wow, just wow! I would like to say a huge thank you to those who showed up supported us tonight, the support has been truly overwhelming. I have been blown away. I am very sorry to those that missed out, as a relatively new business we try our best to provide good stock quantities for our products but the demand has well exceeded our expectations. We will endeavour to better meet demand in the future.... Thank you again, your support has been truly encouraging and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us as a business. Kirsten Xx
24.01.2022 Dig, wash, split, pack, repeat AAALLLLL day long. We are deep in the midst of the massive task of prepping all the dahlias for their winter nap. Our 2020 dahlia catalogue will be released as soon as the last of the tubers have been packed and our newsletter subscribers will be the first to get a copy and I can't wait. It's shaping up to a fantastic catalogue this year, with many more varieties than we have had previously available. So if you're not already signed up, head t...o our website and sign up for our newsletter. I promise you, you won't want to miss it. Xx
24.01.2022 In the times when youre not sure what to do, send flowers. Theyre usually a pretty safe bet to make someone feel loved.
24.01.2022 Honestly I never used to think much of Camelias, but slowly over the years I think I've started to appreciate different flowers for the small little gifts they give us. Like these Camelias for giving us some stunning Winter colour. Every flower is beautiful, sometimes you just have to look a little harder than others to find it. Xx

23.01.2022 Hands up if it's been a rough week? Yep. It just feels like one of those weeks where my head is underwater and I'm completely overwhelmed. I'm trying not to eat too much at once, as someone once said to me but often it seems impossibly hard not to. Today all I wanted to do was stay in bed. And sometimes that's okay. Despite this the dahlias have all been cut down 1/3 this week and once they've died down a little more we will cut off the next third and so on. And tonight ...I went for a walk this with my two sisters and brother in law. I wasn't as productive today as I would have liked but I'm trying to see the positives. I got the dahlias finished for the moment and I got some exercise. So I'll call that a win. Mental health can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster. You think you're finally feeling a little better and you can come crashing down in an instant. Try and give yourself grace in these moments. This is something I'm certainly not very good at get but I am trying. And on the bad days it's okay if you spent half the day in bed, because that means you got out of bed for half a day. Or even if all you did was have a shower or get dressed. Sometimes the small things are big things on these days. And those small steps matter. Because one day you'll look back and realise you have climbed a mountain without even realising it. Xx . . - The varieties pictured here are: Cornflakes, Kwinana Gold, Alden Rocket, Cafe Au Lait, Coorabell Astrid, Embrace, Lemon Snow and Peaches and Cream
23.01.2022 So many gladioli babies! These ones don't even need digging they have grown so big, that they are now up and out of the soil! So Here's to many more gladi's in the future Xx
23.01.2022 I am living beyond my fears, I am showing up with my whole heart - Morgan Harper Nichols For years I have felt overwhelmed by my fears. But now I'm stepping out of the dark and stepping into the unknown. I'm learning (slowly, sometimes painfully so) to believe that I CAN rather than the I can't I have believed for so long. I'm learning to live again. I have a long way to go but I'm showing up. And that's what counts. Xx
23.01.2022 So truth be told I used to be an avid fish fern hater and swore I would never use it.... But when I did my floristry training one of the most important things I learnt was that I had judged flowers based on how I had commonly seen them used, and therefore decided I hated them based on other people's creativity. So I promised myself then and there that during my training regardless of if I liked the flower or not I would use all the flowers provided. And you know what I learn...t? I learnt that these flowers became what I made them. That I could use them in my own way and often loved how they turned out. I learnt to place my first judgements aside and just create. Now I can't say all these flowers are my favourites but I don't think there's is a flower I truely hate. I just have to put the kirsten spin on it. Every flower is beautiful, sometimes you just have to look a little harder than others to find it. Xx

22.01.2022 A backseat of blooms! A lovely lady ordered a pile of bouquets so she could cheer her friends up during ISO. What a wonderful idea and it makes me smile knowing my blooms will be spreading Joy. We can all certainly use as much of that as we can get at the moment.
22.01.2022 Our tuber shop is launching on Friday at 7pm! But to be really honest, behind the excitement of the catalogue release it's actually been a really hard week. I had some issues with my website which I thought were fixed but actually weren't. So this evening I've now actually had to shut down my website, switch host servers and start rebuilding it from scratch all hopefully in time for Friday. I'm just trying to tell myself if I did it once I can do it again. ... So in the meantime if you would like a catalogue there is a direct link in my Instagram profile, or please contact me at [email protected] I will be pretty busy getting the site up and running again but I am trying to get back to all enquires as fast as I can, so thanks for your patience Kirsten Xx
22.01.2022 One of my favourite things to do is wander round the garden once the heat of the day has cooled off just creating as I go. On those harder days it helps give me that little bit of me time and helps me de-stress from the day. It's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about sharing my love of growing with others and sending my tuber babies off to their new garden homes. The garden my family has been building these last few years has become my sanctuary and has helped me cope ...with alot of the difficult things life has thrown my way, and in some ways it's one of my aims to try and foster that with others (and yes that does include you.) To help people grow their own gardens and create their own sanctuary; Their own little (or big) place to help them weather the storms. Our dahlia tuber shop is launching on Friday at 7pm and I can't wait to send this new season's babies on their ways. If you need a little calm in the chaos maybe try your hand at planting a couple. They may just change your life like they did mine. If you would like to take a look before the shop opens there is a link to the catalogue in my Instagram profile or please contact me. I honestly can't wait to see them bloom for you. Kirsten Xx
19.01.2022 Sorry everyone technical difficulties! Please sit tight and you should have the catalogue within 30 minutes to an hour. Xx

15.01.2022 Have you made sure all your plants are labelled? If you still have any flowers left a very important part of dahlia growing is cataloguing the flowers and checking that each plant is correctly labelled so when we go to dig they have correct names. The season end is fast approaching so get on it if you haven't done this already. We got all orders packed yesterday and are winging there way to you via Australia Post. Yay!... Just in time for me to have surgery #24 this morning. Hopefully I'll only be away from the action a few day and soon back into it. Any new orders from yesterday afternoon onwards will be posted when I get home. Have a great Wednesday everyone! 13.01.2022 Farewell George. A cherished family man who loved growing his tomatoes I always feel so honoured when I am asked to make florals for a loved one's memorial service, and I love being able to incorporate a little bit of that person into the florals. Whether it be their love of tomatoes, a favourite flower or colour, or even the scarf of their favourite footy team. Every life is unique and I feel blessed to be able to use my gifts to create a visual representation that celebrates that life.
13.01.2022 Truth be told I think Im actually a bit of a pessimist. I often find it hard to see the good in situations, the potential good outcomes or even believe the nice things people say about me. But every now and then something comes along that proves me wrong. That good things can happen to me, that isnt not true that my photos and flowers are not good enough, and I should hope, because today @gardeningaustralia reposted my photo and flowers on their Instagram. It has actually ...been a dream of mine ever since I started growing flowers with my family to be featured on gardening Australias program and it feels like maybe, just maybe Im one step closer to that dream. This seems to have lifted my spirits and given me hope that Im heading in the right direction. And that I am good enough. So thank you Gardening Australia. You have done more than you know. Xx On a side note cafe au lait dahlias are not actually one of my favourite dahlias to cut. (Probably disagreeing with the popular opinion) For me that a a bit too finicky. They need to be cut when just right and in the right time of day, or they are prone to going floppy seemingly in an instant. They dont have a long stem, so unless you spend lots of time disbudding you need to sacrifice alot of buds to get a good stem length. But despite these things they definitely love the cooler weather of autumn in our patch and are much less prone to wilting when cut. And they do look wonderful blooming on mass with their fluffy creamy heads. As a cut flower there are ones similar I prefer but as a garden dahlia its perfect. They wont be around much longer as the weather is getting pretty cold, so Im enjoying them while they last.
13.01.2022 I just want to dive into this glorious golden pile - The varieties pictured are: Cornflakes, Cafe Au Lait, Delbard Gange, Winkie Whopper, Kwinana Gold and Embrace
12.01.2022 Mother's Day is fast approaching and I was wondering if you guys would be interested if I offered seasonal mixed bouquets like I did last year? With the option of them being an arrangement in our signature milk urn. AND I was think maybe some cute little potted plants as well??? (They are the gift that keeps on giving right) Please comment if you would be interested so I can get something organised. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. ... I stayed in bed most of the day and then went for a long walk with Immy and it was fabulous. 12.01.2022 We are currently having some website issues (which we are working as fast as possible to get fixed), so in the meantime if you need to contact me for any reason or would like to be put on the dahlia catalogue notification list please email ([email protected]) or message me through this page. Our catalogue will be launching this week and will have over 100 varieties in it this year and we are so excited to share it with you all. Thanks for your patience and hopefully we will have the site back up very soon. Xx
12.01.2022 Just some leisurely 2am flower arranging on the first day of spring. I'm headed into hospital today to get a few things calmed down a little. While there I'll be working to reply to everyone who has contacted me recently, and at the moment we are looking to start shipping dahlias in about 2 weeks if the admission goes smoothly. (Earlier if it goes better than expected) It's a bit later than I would have liked. (I had aimed for early Sep) but unfortunately a few things have... flared up and I need to get them a bit calmed down before the big task of shipping. I am still working very hard to have everything prepared so tubers can start being shipped as soon as I get home again. Enjoy the first day of spring everyone! Xx

10.01.2022 Tuber shop launch take 2. Monday 3rd August at 7pm AEST! Due to overwhelming demand my website kept crashing the other night. So I've been hard at work with IT over the weekend significantly increasing the server capacity and optimising the site to handle the traffic better. And now we're ready to try again. Thanks so much for your patience the other night and im hoping take two will go off without a hitch. www.mountjoycottage.com.au Kirsten Xx
10.01.2022 Some of our large pink and/ or creamy dahlias. Ohzara, Kotara and Cafe Au Lait
10.01.2022 Cornflakes just gives me the warm fuzzies every time and it goes so well with Delbard Gange (the other variety shown here). We are still getting the last few straggling blooms from our plants but not long before we will start cutting them down to start the long process of digging and dividing. It's a good thing i took so many photos to last me through the gloomy winter months! We are starting work on our 2020 dahlia catalogue soon and if you want to get a copy when it's released head to our website and sign up for our newsletter so you don't miss out. Xx

09.01.2022 Lemon yellows. Not one of my favourite colours but this season they really stood out to me. I find that different varieties always stand out to me each season and while these colours are not my personal favourite, I can definitely see why this colour is a customer favourite. 09.01.2022 Oh Mamma! To my beautiful mum, You are so gracious allowing me to use your whole garden to grow my flowers and helping me with everything from planting to weeding and even flatlays creation. You have looked after me so much (especially since my accident) and I am so blessed to call you my Mum. Now It is so exciting seeing you grow into the new role of grandma to teddy. I love so incredibly much. To my sister Ash, it is such a joy seeing you become a mum to Teddy. You light u...p when he smiles and you can just feel the love in the room. Our family has grown and so have our hearts. I have learnt that becoming a mother is harder than I thought and you are doing a wonderful job. Today whether you are a mum or not, I hope you know you are loved and appreciated. Happy Mother's Day. Xx
08.01.2022 Cut flower ranunculus are so beautiful with all their layers and ruffly petals. Just scrumptious! And guess what we have bulbs of these ones still available in our spring bulbs shop. 07.01.2022 Joy Burkitt in all her (normal) layered glory. (As compared to the crazy bloom I posted of her just recently.) She looks so beautiful in her slight Waterlilly shaped form. She reminds me of fluffy white tutu
07.01.2022 A sea of purply pinks for this sunny Sunday. How wonderful was the sunshine today after this week of rain?
05.01.2022 A sea of white. We have grown some gorgeous whites this season and here are just a few. From top to bottom we have Devon Casper, Snow Princess, Joy Burkitt and Boundary Snowflake just peeping in right at the bottom.
05.01.2022 With all this glorious weather we have been having I could have almost been mistaken that it was spring already, But looking at these stunning hellebores remind me it's still winter for a little while longer.

01.01.2022 The watermelon/coral/pink tones blend so well with the darker oranges and even a hint of red. A little tip about me is that some of my favourite colour palettes to play with are ones that are monochromatic and just blend into each other.
