25.01.2022 Congratulations to Central Queensland’s REBEL Volunteer of the Year for 2020/21 - Dillon West from the Dawson Valley Taipans Cricket Club. Dillon has been inva...luable to the Central region for many years and has finally been recognised for his contribution to the Moura region and more recently, Rockhampton as the Taipans integrated into the RCI 2nd Grade competition. Dillon was invited to last night’s QLD Cricket awards dinner where he was presented with a Volunteer of the Year plaque from Nathan and I. Hope you enjoyed the night legend! A quick shout to Kris McDonald and the Rebel North Rockhampton team who came onboard to sponsor our Volunteer of the Month program in CQ this season. It’s been an incredible partnership and is now the blueprint for other regions in Queensland! I’m sure it’ll continue for many years.

18.01.2022 Hi All On the 30th of September we played Round 9 of the Rockhampton 2nd Grade competition against Gracemere Bulls. Gracemere won the toss and elected to bat first. On what looked to be a up and down pitch. ... The opening bowlers got of to a great start with the bulls being 2/0 of 2 overs. The bowlers kept it tight and at drinks the bulls were 4/39. We continued bowling our lines and the wicket kept falling, at the 2nd drinks break the bulls were 8/114. We failed to take some opportunity in the session, but toiled on as a team and kept the momentum going. Bowling Gracemere out in the 38th over for 168. We must make special mention about young Toby Cirson who had a great day with ball, taking 5/27 of his 8 overs. Well done. The other notables were Justin Elliott 2/17 and John Christensen 2/28. We went out to bat and got of to nearly the worst start possible loosing a wicket in the first over. Then the quality pairing of Simon Green and John Christensen steady the ship putting on 67 run partnership, with us being 2 down at drinks. We steadily kept the score ticking over loose a couple more wickets and being 5/135 at 2nd drinks, we easily got the runs in the 30 over. Which gave us a much needed bonus point. Special mention must be said about our Skipper Simon Green. He came out in the first over as and steadied the ship and compiled a great innings of 90 not out. Well done. The other notables with the bat were Justin Elliott 18 and Stu Olsson 14. Till next time.

18.01.2022 Hi Everyone On the 11th of January we played the 13th RD of the Rockhampton 2nd Grade Competition against Cap Coast Sharks We won the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a pretty decent wicket. ... The openers got of to another solid start being 75 at the loss of the first wicket at 10 overs. Batters fought hard and carried on but unfortunately we started to lose wickets at regular intervals, loosing 6/27. Then the tail started to wag, with us finishing the innings with a competitive total of 148. The standouts with the bat were Dillon West 52, Simon Green 34 and Trent Anderson 14. The bowlers didn’t get of to greatest of starts with them being 1/59 at 14 overs. After drinks we regroup and started to put the screws on with Cap Coast being 4/112 at 28 overs. We came out for the last 12 overs with some fire in the belly knowing we can win this game, just needed to take some wickets and wickets we took at regular intervals getting us right in the game. With it going down to the last overs and Cap Coast needing 8 of 12 and we needing 2 wickets. Then in 38th over we pulled together as a team got 2 wickets in 2 balls to win a nail biter. Standouts with the ball were young Ben Durkin who bowled outstanding under pressure finishing with figures of 4/28, Dillon West 2/13 and Ross Clancy. Till next time.

16.01.2022 Hi All Just another update on how we finished the season. On the 7th of March we were supposed to play Capricorn Coast, but yet again we had another washout. ... We had our last round game of the year on the 14th of March against Frenchville. This game was very important for us. It will determine where we finish on the ladder for the year. We won the toss and elected to have a bat on what looked like a pretty decent pitch. The openers got of to slow and steady start, only being 0/43 runs from 14 overs at first drinks. It was quite obvious that the runs weren’t going to come freely like previous weeks, from all the rain that was around made the field very slow. We continued on slowly after drinks losing the first wicket for 54 in the 16th over. We kept soldiering on until 2nd drinks break only 4 down for 107, which we thought was a pretty good total in the conditions. After drinks we didn’t start the best, losing 4 quick wickets in a matter of a few overs being 8/116. The tail dug in and started to wag scrapping every run we could get, finally being bowled out in the 39th over for 131. Which we thought was a defendable total. The standouts with the bat were Dillon West 58, Justin Elliott 21 and the old veteran Stu Olsson 10. The opening bowlers got of slow steady start, we pick up our first 2 wickets in the 10th over for 40 runs and kept them to 2/47 at first drinks. We continued to bowl within ourselves with a consistent line and length till 2nd drinks, we didn’t pick up a wicket in that session but kept them to 91. With Frenchville only needing 40 runs in 12 overs it’s going to go down to the wire. After drinks we came up with a plan and we needed to execute it to come away with the win. The next 5 overs they only had made 11 runs taking the total to 2/102 in the 32nd over, the plan seemed to be working. The next couple of overs we picked up 3 wickets for 4 runs taking the score to 5/106 in the 35 over. They needing less than a run a ball, we needed to pick our act up and pull our act up we did taking regular wickets and slowing runs. So it all came down to the last over Frenchville only needing four runs for the win and we needing 1 wicket and with some fine bowling and a well excuted plan we came away with the win with 5 balls to spare. We won by 2 runs. Talk about a nail biter. Winner.

15.01.2022 Hello All Sorry for the lateness of the updates as time gets away from me. On the 23rd of November. We played North’s on field 4 in Rockhampton in the Rockhampton 2nd grade competition. ... North’s one the toss and elected to bat on what looked like a good wicket. The open bowlers got off to a solid start with norths being 2/24 of 10 overs and we kept bowling tight lines and the wickets kept falling regular with norths being 7/55 after 20 overs. Norths were all out for 68 in the 26th over. It was awesome bowling performance from all the bowlers. The standouts with the ball were Chaise Bidgood 4/13, Tim Meyers 2/11 and Dillon West 2/13. We went in the bat and the pitch wasn’t getting much better to bat on. We got of to a steady but solid start being 1/47 of 14. We batted on making sure there wasn’t a classic Taipans collapse. We got the runs comfortably in the 22 over finishing at 3/69. Stand outs with the bat were Dillon West 37, John Christensen 9 and Simon Green 9 Till next time.

Next game we played was against Norths on the 1st of February. We won the toss and elected to bat on a sound wicket. After loosing the third wicket for 166 we losed wickets at regular intervals finishing the 40 overs at 8/187. Which was a great result for the boys. The standouts with the bat were and a truly courageous captains knock was Simon Green 92, John Christensen 23 and Danial Heit 10. The opening bowlers found it tuff with ball, only picking up the one wicket early. It’s seem to be ongoing as it turned out to be a tuff day in the field all round. All the bowlers dug in, but only picking up 2 more wickets. Norths getting the runs in the 36th over and winning by 7 wickets. Little bit more luck and could of come away with the win. After drinks we leaked a few runs in middle part of the innings and as consistent team we are we tightened it up again bye the only way we know, Is to take wickets. The standouts with the ball were John Christensen 2/6, Toby Cirson 2/20 and Ben Dirkin 2/23. The openers got of to a solid start to the run chase, loosing their first wicket 43 runs in the 10th over. We Won the Toss and elected to bat first on what looked like a good batting wicket. Probably the best one we played on this year. ... The boys wanted to get revenge and return the favour after Brothers give us a bit of a touch up after the last time we meet. The Taipan openers got of to a solid start being 0/91 at 14 overs.
