25.01.2022 Why is it important to have mobile shoulders? -The shoulder is a very complex and important joint. Not only is it important in your training for any sporting participation, but it is important in everyday activities. Your shoulder can move in multiple planes of motion and perform multiple functions so any sort of limitation can potentially be uncomfortable and may even cause injury ... But what makes shoulder mobility so important? How can you tell if your shoulders are adequately mobile and how do you address it if they arentWithout getting too technical, first lets talk about the general importance of shoulder mobility. When considering shoulder mobility you need to understand that good shoulder mobility also requires adequate stability or control of the scapula. Without a stable scapula, impingement can occur and your shoulder mobility and health could be compromised. But if your shoulders have too much stability, meaning they are too stiff, it can restrict your range of motion, affecting your ability to perform a wide variety of common movements in and outside of the gym. You NEED good shoulder mobility and controlled mobility to safely and effectively perform a large majority of movement and weight bearing exercises. There needs to be a good balance of stability and strength within your shoulder. Having both will help improve your movement quality and comfort and help keep you from potentially injuring your shoulder when exercising. Its a good idea to see your Physiotherapist for an assessment of shoulder and spinal stability and strength before commencing a new exercise program. How you perceive how you move may not actually be ideal, as you may not notice poor mobility and movement control patterns. Whether you have loose or stiff shoulders, or if they are already moving well, you should consistently monitor this. Poor mobility needs to be improved, while great mobility should be maintained! Stay tuned as Move Well Physiotherapy will post simple shoulder mobility exercises weekly, that you can add into your current program #movewelleveryday #shoulderhealth @rivervalephysiotherapy @_coreyevans

21.01.2022 Cutting, or change of direction, is an important skill. As you change direction at speed the cutting foot that you push off (this should be the outside foot) should start to turn towards the direction you will be heading towards. If it stays facing the direction you have come from, this can increase the medial knee joint forces, and potentially result in an "O'Donoghue's (unhappy) Triad" - ACL, MLC and medial meniscus. Your Move Well Physio can assess this and give you some drills to improve your cutting skills. Get someone to video you cutting in slow motion and see what you find! https://movewell.com.au

21.01.2022 Best of luck Sophie from everyone at Move Well Physiotherapy. Congratulations on being apart of the first ever International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro League

21.01.2022 The Kokoda Track at Perth's Kings Park is named after the infamous Kokoda Track campaign or Kokoda Trail campaign that was part of the Pacific War of World War II. The campaign consisted of a series of battles fought between July and November 1942 in what was then the Australian Territory of Papua. The Kokoda Track or Trail is a single-file foot thoroughfare that runs 96 kilometres overland 60 kilometres in a straight line through the Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea. The Perth version is much easier! And what a view! https://movewell.com.au

21.01.2022 Move Well Physiotherapists gathered at Maniax in Northbridge to celebrate Christmas and enjoy a bit of healthy competition. After a series of one on one knock out rounds there was a fierce battle in the semi finals between 4 amazing marksmen/women, Jason, Mikaila, Joel and Dan. Dan and Joel made it through to the grandfinal, but there could be only one winner. Joel took the trophy in a nail biting finish! Congratulations Joel!! We then enjoyed dinner, drinks and live music at The Sewing Room, with delicious catering from Holmes & Co and Simple Italian. #thesewingroom #maniax #movewellphysio

16.01.2022 Benefits of lateral sliders with Hockeyroos GK Rachel Lynch Lateral sliders are a great exercise, as it works the sides of the glutes (the gluteus medius), which are an important stabilising muscle for the hip joint, and is often under-appreciated. Moving in different directions also help you work your quadriceps, hamstring and calf muscles from another angle. Mos...t athletes need explosive speed and power and this is a perfect exercise to improve that. #movewell #movewellmoveoften @stompgoalkeeping @rachlynch See more

16.01.2022 This is what happens when you run a half marathon in a new pair of shoes straight out of the box! And this is after one week under a blister healing bandage!! If you are a regular runner you should have two pairs of shoes on the go at any one time. This ensures the shoes are "run in" and comfortable and less likely to cause blisters. Ouch! https://movewell.com.au

09.01.2022 WE ARE STILL OPERATING The Prime Minister Scott Morrison last night made a decision to make further closures. However, Physiotherapy Services are to remain OPEN. We have an important role to play to take pressure off the already overloaded medical system. The West Australian has INCORRECTLY reported that physiotherapy clinics are among the services to close temporarily. This is not the case. We continue to maintain strict hygiene policies and screening those who are unwell and/or those who have recently traveled. All surfaces are cleaned before and after every contact, and we are also available for Telehealth appointments from today. We will continue to monitor government advice and thank you for your continuing support.

05.01.2022 SLED THURSDAY Sled drills can be done for conditioning, fat loss, muscle building and sport-specific training. It works every muscle in your body, and it will test your mind. One reason the sled is superior to more traditional forms of cardio and conditioning (such as running, jumping rope and sprinting) is that it is low-impact and more joint-friendly, with little risk of injury. Sled work places relatively little... stress on the nervous system. Sled pushing and dragging are also easier on the lower back, shoulders and knees. Use the sled for stand-alone conditioning workouts or for fat-burning "finishers" at the end of regular strength workouts. Sleds condition the body without beating it down or requiring huge periods of recovery between training sessions. Dont be fooled, though. The lower impact and lack of soreness doesnt mean the sled is any less effective.

04.01.2022 Move Well Physiotherapists attended a tutorial at Bedshed at the Gateway in Edgewater last night. Heaps of fun and very educational. #Bedshed #APA #Movewell #movewellphysio

04.01.2022 A great way to spend a Sunday, presenting a webinar to health professionals based in India on spinal techniques and treatment progressions. Many thanks to Ajay of Physio First for getting us all organized. Thanks also to Sammy Prost and Peter Owens for being the live client and videographer respectively. Its difficult teaching online (shout out to all the teachers who have managed to do this!) and even harder no doubt to learn this way. I hope all the attendees had fun learning despite the difficulties. Stay safe and stay well. X
