Run by our awesome Exercise Physiologist Holly, we can tailor all exercises to suit all fitness types and levels. Combining a range of exercises including balance, strength and ...cardio, this class is sure to get your blood pumping and belly laughing. Bring a friend or family member along, and don't forget your water bottle, mat & towel. You don't have to have been a patient of the clinic, however it is essential that you phone ahead and book your spot with our lovely ladies at reception - contact us on 4948 2083 before the spots are snapped up!

25.01.2022 Challenge time for all those that normally attend Moving Along Physiotherapy for our CORE & BALANCE Class (or for anyone else wanting to work on their core control while exercising at home). You could choose to do sets of ten of each exercise, holding positions for 3-10 seconds. Another option is the "AGE CHALLENGE". For example if our Physiotherapist Alison (aged 21 ) was to perform the challenge she would... BRIDGE: for 21seconds... BOTTOM: DROP 21 times (on double legs or on each leg) with rests as needed CLAM: 21 times each leg SIDE PLANK: 21 seconds each side KNEELING OPPOSITES: 21 times each side or hold out for 21 seconds NUMBER TRACE: Draw the numbers 1 - 21 TABLE TOP CRUNCH: 21 times Y,T,W: 21 times or hold each position 21 seconds SINGLE LEG REACH: do 21 in each direction with or without holding position SINGLE LEG BALANCE: Hold 21 seconds each leg (or add the time on each attempt to get to a total of 21 seconds) Give it a go - feel free to share with us how you went. Of course let us know if there are any problems or questions by emailing [email protected] or calling us on 4948 2083. Good luck. Stay healthy. Stay tuned for the next challenge.

24.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Here it is - a few days late but it's here - Moving Along Physiotherapy's Week 9 Core & Balance Challenge. We have had a few requests for some exercises with on the Exercise Balls so this week's exercises are all using the ball. Try sets of up to 20 repetitions on the ball with 2-3 sets. This is something we have done in the classes so for those of you with a ball at home now's the time to start practising again so you are ready for when classes return. For those... of you without a ball, the exercises can be modified and we have done variations of most in the previous weeks on the floor. For those that are keen to try a ball, we have several sizes available to purchase at the clinic. Holly has prepared this week's Exercise Challenge so I will get that out to you all in the next day or so. Make sure to call on 4948 2083 if you have any questions. Stay healthy. GET UP & GO!!!

24.01.2022 August 13th is International Left Handed Day. Here's some facts about all of those South Paws out there... * Some people are scared of Left-Handedness!... Sinistrophobia is defined as the fear of things at the left side or left-handed people. * Lefties adjust to seeing underwater quicker Neurologists report that we do indeed seem to adjust to underwater vision more readily than our right handed friends. * Lefties are less able to roll their tongue In a 1998 study Left-handedness and tongue-rolling ability (yes, someone actually did this!), it was found that significantly fewer lefties could roll their tongues than righties (62.8% and 74.8% respectively). * Lefties make Up roughly 12% of the population On average, 12% of the world is left handed, 87% right handed, and 1% ambidextrous. However, the percentage of lefties worldwide is slowly creeping up as being left handed becomes more socially accepted. Believe it or not, to this day some countries still try and force children to learn to write with their right hand! For example, in 1860 when a left handed person was essentially seen as being in league with the devil, it is estimated that as little as 2% of the population was left handed. The current 12% figure also varies by country and gender! * Lefties are more prone to Migraines In the same scientific study described above, it was also discovered that left handed people were roughly twice as likely to experience migraines when compared to right handed people. * Lefties have an advantage In certain sports. Lefties make especially good baseball players, tennis players, swimmers, boxers and fencers (almost 40% of the current top tennis players are lefties). Essentially we excel at non-team based sports where players face off one-on-one. This is because right-handed players are used to mainly playing against other right handed players and not lefties. Did you know that tennis champion Rafael Nadal is actually right handed, but learned to play lefty to give himself an advantage? It certainly seems to have worked out nicely for the Spaniard!! Happy LEFT HANDED DAY from Moving Along Physiotherapy!!

22.01.2022 Exhausted from all this isolating?? Well luckily you get to sit down for all of Moving Along Physiotherapy's Week 5 exercises! Last week was the "I'm Still Standing" Challenge so this week is the "Sitting, Waiting, Wishing" Challenge. This week's song is presented by Jack Johnson and is a little slower paced than last week's. Thats how I want you to do the exercises this week - the slower you go with most of these, the more control you have to have and the harder your muscle...s will work. 3-4 sets of 10-15 repetitions as always or as it's our 5th week without classes why not challenge yourself and do 5 sets?? Stay healthy. GET UP & GO!!! Sitting, Waiting, Wishing Jack Johnson Well I was sitting, waiting, wishing You believed in superstitions Then maybe you'd see the signs Lord knows that this world is cruel And I ain't the Lord no I'm just a fool And a loving somebody don't make them love you Must I always be waiting, waiting on you? Must I always be playing, playing your fool? I sang your songs, I danced your dance I gave your friends all a chance Putting up with them wasn't worth never having you Aw, maybe you've been through this before But it's my first time so please ignore The next few lines 'cause they're directed at you I can't always be waiting, waiting on you I can't always be playing, playing your fool I keep playing your part But it's not my scene Want this plot to twist I've had enough mystery Keep building it up But then you're shooting me down But I'm already down Just wait a minute Just sitting, waiting Just wait a minute Just sitting, waiting Well if I was in your position I'd put down all my ammunition I'd wonder why it had taken me so long But Lord knows that I'm not you And if I was I wouldn't be so cruel 'Cause waiting on love ain't so easy to do Must I always be waiting, waiting on you? Must I always be playing, playing your fool? No I can't always be waiting, waiting on you I can't always be playing, playing your fool, fool Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Jack Hody Johnson Sitting, Waiting, Wishing lyrics Reach Music Publishing, Bubble Toes Publishing

21.01.2022 With all that movement it shouldn't be surprising that we can end up with aches and pains in the ribs, chest and upper back!! Joint stiffness, muscle tightness, fractures and surgery are just some of the causes of pain in these regions. Call and book an assessment and treatment at Moving Along Physiotherapy on 4948 2083 to help get you breathing easy again.

21.01.2022 A big congratulations to one of our favourite patients Shaniece. Shaniece tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her knee and had to undergo a full reconstruction. The rehabilitation for this is long, hard and at times pyschologically draining. Shaniece never waivered in her committment, dedication and determination to get the most from her rehabilitation. I have treated paid professional athletes who could have learnt a thing or two from Shaniece!!! Well the hard work has paid off!!! This weekend Shaniece has so far won two golds and smashed her personal best times. In awesome news she has also qualified for Nationals . We could not be prouder of you Shaniece and we know the future holds lots of success. Your future doesn't just look bright - it definitely looks GOLD!!!

20.01.2022 CEO Fletcher is preparing for this year’s HOWLoween. He has an empty bowl waiting to be filled with treats. He is hoping for a whole lot of baby cucumbers, beans, asparagus, snow peas - for those of you who haven’t met Fletcher yet, he has a weird thing for veggies!! 19.01.2022 Yes, it is still a Public Holiday Friday 19th June! Moving Along Physiotherapy will be closing at lunchtime on Thursday and will reopen at 7.30am on Monday. Messages can be left during this time by calling us on 4948 2083.

19.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Well it's Friday night and I know exercise is exactly what's on all of your minds!! So here's Moving Along Physiotherapy's Week 8 Core & Balance Challenge. This week it's all about balance. Most people think balance comes from your foot and ankle however they should really be your "last line of defence". It is essential that the muscles around your hips and spine (core muscles) help to limit excessive movement and counteract any shift in positions or force - imag...ine walking on sand or standing on a moving train. Balance is also a trainable skill and it becomes even more essential to practise it as we get older. You've all been working hard on your core with the previous weeks's exercises so lets put them to the test with some balance challenges. Try 3-4 sets of each exercise and if you really want to push yourself, try closing your eyes. If some of the single leg work is too hard, stand with both feet on the ground but keep them really close together or one in front of the other like being on a tightrope. For those that may have started on a Friday night wine or two, perhaps wait until tomorrow to start - or who knows, maybe the balance wobbles might level out some of the wine wobbles!!! Challenge yourselves. Stay healthy (though enjoy that wine!!) and GET UP & GO!!!

18.01.2022 Happy Easter everyone! Here's this week's Moving Along Physiotherapy's Core & Balance Challenge. I was going to suggest that for the number of repetitions you could follow the number of Easter Eggs you've eaten, however I realised that for some of you that would be zero and for others if you are anything like me, you would need to spend all day doing the exercises!!!! (Surely Easter Egg chocolate is good for you??!!) So instead, let's set a time for holding or doing each exer...cise. Start with 30 seconds for each exercise (30 seconds each side if it is on your side) and build your way up in 30 second increments. If you can't hold a position such as the kneeling lean or plank for the full time period, hold as long as you can then reset and start the count where you left off. Of course, as always you could choose instead to do 3-4 sets of 10-15 repetitions instead. Make sure you keep me up to date with how you're going or call/email me if you have any questions. Enjoy the challenge. Have a safe and healthy Easter. Get Up & Go!!!

18.01.2022 With one of our admin team heading back to uni, we are on the search for a new casual receptionist in our Cannonvale Clinic. Hours will vary between Mon - Fri with an average of 25-35 hours per week. We ideally need someone who is flexible with start and finish times. The role consists of covering the front desk, preparing treatment rooms and maintaining the presentation of the clinic. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not necessary. We are looking to start someone just after Easter. All applications should be made by emailing [email protected]

18.01.2022 Hi Everyone, We hope you are all keeping well during these challenging times. Here is this week's exercises to keep you motivated and physically active throughout the week. Try to do 3-4 sets of each exercise. If you would like to further challenge yourself, complete YMCA to each side according to the number of the exercise e.g. after doing number 7 exercise complete 7 YMCA's to each side.... Alison knows how much you love these!!! Remember if anyone wants to add any resista...nce work feel free to drop in and purchase some resistance band for $5 per metre and you are welcome to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Holly is also doing some one-on-one exercise sessions in place of the class at health fund rebate only fee therefore no out-of-pocket expense. If you would like to take up this option please give us a call and we can book you in for an appointment. Good luck. Stay healthy. Get Up & Go!! Stay tuned for the next challenge.

17.01.2022 Hi Everyone. We've had a few enquiries over the last few days about whether Moving Along Physiotherapy's classes will be resuming with the latest round of restriction easing. Unfortunately the current easing allows only for outdoor classes of up to ten people and no shared equipment. Indoor classes/groups remain restricted to 3-4 people. We will keep you posted as the next official announcements are made. Believe me we are looking forward to the return of our classes together... just as much as you all are!! In the meantime here's Holly's Week 8 Challenge. Still on the spelling theme, this week it's you suburbs. Try your current suburb, the suburb you were born in and the suburb you would love to be in right now. Are they all the same?? Remember you can stick to 3-4 rounds of 10-15 repetitions if you would prefer. Enjoy the challenge. Stay healthy. GET UP & GO!!!

17.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Sorry it's a little late but here's Moving Along Physiotherapy's Week 6's Core Challenge - just thought I'd give you all a long weekend off!! This week it's a little different. There are only three types of exercises but the challenge is to build your endurance. The aim is to do five minutes of each exercise daily. i can hear the screams now but don't stop reading yet! This doesn't mean you hold for five minutes straight, it is an accumulated total. Start with pl...anking - hold for as long as you can keeping good form. Keep a record of the time and then move on to the next exercise. If your shoulder needs a rest, do the bridge otherwise move on to side planks. Again hold for as long as you can and record your time. When you have completed all four exercises (side planks left & right = 2 exercises) start the next round. Hold plank as long as you can and add to your first round time. See if you can achieve a nice round figure in total minutes for each exercise with the ultimate goal at the end of the week being that you can perform a total of five minutes on each exercise. Now for those of you have have been doing the exercises regularly over the last few weeks you may have abs and buns of steel by now. Feel free to increase the difficulty of each exercise by raising a leg in planking and bridging or arms in bridging. Those finding it more chanllenging, remember planks can be done on your knees. Keep me up to date on your progress - let me know your start times and where you end up at the end of the week. Also make sure you let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Phone on 4948 2083, email [email protected] or comment below. Hopefully with the easing of restrictions in the coming weeks I will get to see you all in person very soon at our classes. Stay healthy, GET UP & GO!!!

17.01.2022 Week 6....how are you all going? Still trying to fit some exercise in each day? We've had some of you coming in to exercise with Holly and myself but for those of you doing your own exercises at home, here's the next round of exercises from Holly. I think she's practising for some homeschooling because she's on the spelling bandwagon again!!! This week if you want something different to your 3-4 sets of 10-15 repetitions, she's challenged you to spell out you street address instead. Good luck to those in Whitsunday Boulevard!!! Keep us up to date with how you are going. Stay active and healthy. GET UP & GO!!!

15.01.2022 With the current COVID rules, Moving Along Physiotherapy has decided to cancel classes this week. All scheduled appointments with Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology and Remedial Massage will proceed, however all clients must wear a mask for the duration of their time in the clinic. This rule will also apply to anyone else accompanying clients or entering the clinic on other business. We would also stress that anyone having been in Brisbane since the 20th March should not enter the clinic. Please don’t hesitate to contact us on 4948 2083 if you have any questions or concerns. We have our fingers crossed that if everyone does the right thing, we can get back to business as usual next week.

Let's prove that COVID19 won't keep you down - we are going to do all of this week's exercises standing up!! I've also attached the lyrics to the appropriate song below (It even mentions a mask !!!). 3-4 sets of 10-15 repetitions as always - challenge youself by singing the chorus out loud as you do the exercises instead... of holding your breath!! Hope you are all staying healthy and enjoying the exercises. Stay tuned for the next challenge. GET UP & GO!!! Make sure to call if you have any questions or need to make an appointment 4948 2083 ELTON JOHN - I'M STILL STANDING You could never know what it's like Your blood like winter freezes just like ice And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use And did you think this fool could never win Well look at me, I'm coming back again I got a taste of love in a simple way And if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid I'm still standing after all this time Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah Once I never could hope to win You starting down the road leaving me again The threats you made were meant to cut me down And if our love was just a circus you'd be a clown by now You know I'm still standing better than I ever did Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid I'm still standing after all this time Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid I'm still standing after all this time Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah I'm still standing yeah yeah yeah Source: LyricFind I'm Still Standing lyrics Universal Music Publishing Group

13.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Moving Along Physiotherapy has a double up for you this week. 1. Holly's WEEK 10 Exercise Challenge.... Don't get too excited that there are only 8 exercises on here this week! Holly has set another pyramid challenge but has increased the starting number of repetitions to 15. Try and do 15 repetitions of each exercise then start again with 12 repetitions followed by 10 then 8 and finally 6 repetitions of each exercise. Of course, you can always choose to do 3 sets of 10-15 repetitions instead. 2. Alison's WEEK 10 Core & Balance Challenge. This week we are going to start to put together exercises from the previous weeks. This week we are doing the first exercise off each sheet for Exercises 0-8. It's Week 10 so if the exercises are a sustained exercise like a plank, hold for 10 seconds and do as close to 10 repetitions as you can. For the other exercises do 10 repetitions each side and repeat up to 10 times for each of those exercises. Exercise 9 is CRUNCH & PUNCH. As we are doing the 1st exercise from each sheet, we are going to do 1 crunch and punch between each of Exercises 0-8. You can choose to do fewer sets if you aren't quite up to this level yet. If you are going to follow these directions, your programme will be the following: 10 x 10 second bridges 1 x crunch & punch 10 cycles left leg, 10 cycles on right leg & repeat each side 10 times 1 x crunch & punch 10 toe taps left, 10 toe taps right & repeat 10 times 1 crunch & punch 10 x 10 second wall planks 1 crunch & punch 10 x 10 slow runs 1 crunch & punch 10 x 10 second plank (Yes, I know you've done wall planks as well - think of that as your warm up ) 1 crunch & punch 10 x 10 second leg press in table top position 1 crunch & punch 10 x alternating forward and sideways tap left then right & repeat 10 times 1 crunch & punch 10 rotations to each side (can do without the ball) and repeat 10 times 1 crunch & punch AND FINISHED!!!!! Make sure to let me know if anyone manages to complete the whole routine! Stay healthy. GET UP & GO!! Alison

08.01.2022 Hi Everyone. How are you all going over the last few weeks? Restrictions have started to lift a little however unfortunately we still don't have class return dates as yet. We have had some very eager people working very hard over the last few weeks with "one on one" sessions with Holly and myself so hopefully everyone at home is working just as hard on their exercises so you come back to classes raring to go!! Here is Holly's Week 9 Moving Along Physiotherapy Exercise Challen...ge. She has suggested a "Pyramid Challenge" where you do 12 repetitions of each exercise then 10 repetitions on the next set and continue until you complete 4 repetitions on the 5th and final set. To test your co-ordination try the "Walk Like An Egyptian" song dance moves in between each set (all video evidence of this last part will be happily accepted!!). This is the last of the sheets that Holly has pre-prepared so before she starts on her next few challenges, does anyone have any requests? Are there types of exercises you would like to try? Is there an area you would like to work on a little more? Email or message in you requests and we will try and incorporate as many as possible. Keep healthy. GET UP & GO!!!

07.01.2022 Moving Along Physiotherapy is looking for a Bowen local to cover the reception desk in our Bowen Clinic. This is a casual role supporting our Physiotherapist who is currently visiting Bowen once a fortnight (Thursdays). We are after someone who is computer savvy, quick to learn and a great people person. If this sounds like you please send your resume to [email protected]. Please note you must be available to travel to Cannonvale for an initial interview.

06.01.2022 Hi Everyone. How did you all go with Moving Along Physiotherapy's Week 6 challenge - are you able to hold each position longer as the week has gone on? Week 7's Core and Balance Challenge is back to ten different exercises. Some of these are extremely challenging but I have included some options if they are too tough. If you have been managing to continue some core exercises over the weeks you should be starting to notice that things are becoming a little easier. Now is a goo...d time to go back and retry some of the exercises from the previous weeks that felt really difficult. Keep doing this every two to three weeks - sometimes it's hard to see the improvement until you try something that felt nearly impossible before and suddenly you realise it is now achievable. Three sets of 10 - 15 repetitions is a good option for these exercises. To add a bit more of a challenge, stand up between each exercise and try doing 5 squats with the weight in your hands. Go only as deep as your knees will let you and keep the tummy muscles switched on. Remember to stick your bottom out behind you as though you are trying to touch a chair that is slightly too far back. Hopefully we are another week closer to classes resuming so get practising!! Stay healthy. GET UP & GO!!!

06.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Moving Along Physiotherapy's Week 4 Exercise Challenge - can you believe it's been a month since we've been able to exercise as a group??!! Some of this week's exercises are quite challenging so start with an easier version and build your way up - even trying 1 set of the harder ones is a great achievement. 3 -4 sets of 10-15 repetitions is the goal this week and tacking it on to a brief power walk is also a good plan.... Work hard but as always let me know if you are having any concerns. Call on 4948 2083. Stay healthy, Get Up & Go!!! Alison

05.01.2022 Hi Everyone. Hopefully you are all well and keeping active. Here's the second week of challenge exercises for you core muscles. As always you could choose to do 3-4 sets of ten repetitions for each exercise. Alternatively try the 10 to 1 Challenge. Start with 10 of each exercise (10 to each side if single sided exercises). Next do 9 of each exercise and so on until you get to your last round of just 1 repetition of each exercise. Can you do all 10 rounds?? If not, keep work...ing at it over the coming weeks and see how long it takes to be able to do them all. Remember that as much as we like to challenge you, we want you to do the exercises safely and progress through the levels at your own pace. Remember that while we remain deemed an essential service and therefore are able to stay open, Holly and I are available for individual sessions if you find you need extra motivation or guidance. Of course don't hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns. Also remember to keep us up to date on your progress - we love hearing about your hard work and successes (we don't mind a laugh at your funny stories either!!). Why not challenge your friends whilst everyone is in isolation - just like our Facebook page, share the post to your page or tag a friend and compare notes on your progress. As always, stay healthy. Get Up & Go!!!! Stay tuned for the next challenge.

04.01.2022 CLASSES ARE COMING BACK!!!! Exciting news that Moving Along Physiotherapy Classes are getting ready to resume in Cannonvale. Our first Core & Balance Class will be the 30th of June and our first Over 50's Get Up & Go class will be the 1st of July. Unfortunately for those in Bowen the wait will be a little bit longer until we can access the gym again. Of course everyone in Bowen is more than welcome to come and join our Cannonvale Classes in the meantime.... With COVID-19 restrictions and measures in place, the class sizes will be capped so it is essential for you to book a spot in a class. Spaces will fill quickly and bookings can be made from Monday 8th of June. All bookings must be made by phoning the clinic on 4948 2083. All new participants are welcome, just phone us for further information. We have put on a few extra classes (see the timetable attached) and we will look at adding further ones if there is a demand for spots. There will also be some new requirements to keep everyone safe and happy so when you book in for your first class back we will email you a copy of the changes. In the meantime, here's Week 11's Core and Balance Challenge. Keeping on track with last week's Challenge, we have put together the 2nd exercise from each of the previous week's sheets. In between each exercise this week, it's 2 crunch & punches - aren't you glad now there's only a few more weeks until classes, imagine getting up to 10 crunch & punches!!!! Stay posted for Holly's Exercise Challenge in the next day or so. Don't forget to book your classes!!!
