23.01.2022 Finally the good news we were hoping for. Now here's hoping it is completed in a timely manner.
21.01.2022 Dear All, The latest newsletter is now online: https://www.mtpleasantbeat.org/latest-newsletter Sadly we are having more issues with copying this time, and the hard copies may not be available until Tuesday - fingers crossed we can get the old photocopier cranked up! This week has been Reconciliation Week - and celebrating 20 years since the walk across the Harbour bridge. Did you know that it was then the largest public demonstration in Australia's history? Still a long way... to go. There are a couple of articles from Australia Post and COTA - with suggestions for marking this time. We'd also like to congratulate the Show Society with securing funding for a new Admin block - great news. And whilst we're on Congratulations - Barb and Bill Tapscott celebrated 60 years of marriage! A fantastic milestone - and we're sure the dancing helped! Paula also celebrated her birthday - during what should have been History Month. Next month we'll have some photos from a great milestone for another Mt Pleasant resident! Peter sent us an ode to South Aussie wine, and we couldn't resist adding a few appropriate funnies to go with it. So - enjoy - and please feel free to send us suggestions or contributions. It's going to be interesting to look back on all that has happened in ten years' time, and see how we all got through this. Sue and Paula See more
20.01.2022 Dear Alll, The latest newsletter is now online: https://www.mtpleasantbeat.org/latest-newsletter Until now the newsletter has been determined by my stapler, which will only staple 12 pages, but this time some of the hard copies were photocopied by a copier with a stapler.... Tempting, but I really need to keep it down or it will just keep expanding. This issue we congratulated Margaret Seager on her thirty or so years as a Justice of the Peace, as she has decided to step dow...Continue reading
18.01.2022 The latest newsletter is now online: https://www.mtpleasantbeat.org/latest-newsletter A bumper issue with most of our groups and organisations returning to some form of normalcy. A few things statewide that might concern us, namely Electoral Boundaries possibly shifting (remember the Morialta proposal?), and possible changes to how we vote. It appears that not only is there a Toness where our forebears were from, but there is one in Mt Barker - who knew? Paula did, that's why... she thought she'd share it on the History page. Paula, Gareth and I have been holding film lunches - partly because we like Australian movies, and partly because we wanted to cheer people up, so you'll find information and pics from those events. Gareth and Kath have outdone themselves with write-ups from the Men's Shed, and the SACWA, Red Cross and Friends of the Hospital. Although there have been stringent rules attached to holding meetings, our charitable groups have all found ways to successfully continue without holding ordinary meetings. The Men's Shed has continued the whole way through and held a First Aid course, and they have plans for a workshop on Mental Health this month. Don't forget that these events are for ALL our community, and many of them are totally free. Please contact Gareth for information. Peter has let the season go to his head and celebrates Spring in his poem this month. Lots more from the Market, Library, Progress Association, Recreate, and Cromer and Tungkillo. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts! Cheers, Sue and Paula PS Don't forget the Spring Fling at the Market - every Saturday this month!
17.01.2022 Life in the time of COVID-19 - and finding something else to talk about!
16.01.2022 Working on the newsletter this morning - hopefully printing this afternoon, for distribution tomorrow at the market, so no blog this week, but check this link out. The Band of the South Australia Police has created a YouTube channel!
15.01.2022 A bit of nonsense.
14.01.2022 Thanks to Talunga Wines for passing on the link https://www.facebook.com/9NewsAdelaide/videos/698483117420018

13.01.2022 Dear All, The latest newsletter is now online: https://www.mtpleasantbeat.org/latest-newsletter Apart from the good news about the Amy Gillett Bikeway, there are lots of reports from our various groups and clubs. It seems that most of the articles in the newsletter are about us oldies, which is a shame, but until we get more contributions from the younger members / groups in town, that's probably the way it will stay. Please feel free to send me any information, good news, u...pdates that you'd like our community to know about. The newsletter is free, and our main aim is to promote ALL things Mt Pleasant. Cheers, Sue & Paula See more

03.01.2022 Dear All, the latest newsletter is now online: https://www.mtpleasantbeat.org/latest-newsletter (I hope!)... Another smaller one, but with some beautiful Anzac photos from our community. It's been a tough one to get out this month - it seems that after several lengthy phone calls to Telstra - that it may actually be the modem. I've discovered more about hotspots than I wanted to know, but it's helped me get emails and information, and now enabled me to upload the newsletter. Thanks for your ongoing support - and thanks this month to our contributors: Paula Bartsch - with some interesting information about the impact of the Spanish Influenza on Mt Pleasant, Jan Gardner shares a poignant WW1 love story, Peter Wilde has penned an emotional tribute to the Anzacs and Sarah Hughes has added an illustration, Kath Fisher has put pen to paper for the CWA and Red Cross, Don has given us some Council insights, Gareth passed on information from the Progress Association and Terese has let us in on some good news about Bushfire Grant Funding. Don't forget Mothers' Day! Stay Safe - we are closer to the end than last month. Cheers, Sue and Paula
03.01.2022 The delights of technology. It's great when it works - although it appears to be working now. Enjoy these hugely funny little videos that are doing the rounds at the moment.
02.01.2022 Dear All, The latest newsletter is now online: https://www.mtpleasantbeat.org/latest-newsletter Lots of little bits of news, and things slowly returning to normal. We are still unsure of which groups and clubs are holding meetings, so if yours is one of them, please let us know the status in time for the next newsletter.... A few pages of Council and Mt Pleasant Progress Association news, as well as some really good news about funding for our Show and the Netball and Tennis clubs. Paula uncovered an interesting fact about Simpson and his donkey - and a tie-in to Mt Pleasant. We have also started putting on a fortnightly Soup 'n Cinema experience, showcasing good food (well, hot food anyhow), and some Australian Cinema Classics. Last week it was 'Robbery under Arms' and next time it will be 'The Shiralee'. There are a few bits of information from the Library, which resumes normal service on Monday. Recreate recently hosted an Adelaide Hills Garden Revival event which was attended by Sophie Thomson, and Linda Keen, who together with her friend Mel, founded the group in the wake of the Cudlee Creek bushfires. The Market is gearing up for their Spring Fling in September - an innovative way to make up for not being able to hold the Garden Festival. Don't forget you can order market goods online! Peter's poem this month is about our CFS volunteers - in the lead-up to the annual call for new recruits. And in stop press the CFS has announced the Comedy Night will return in October! A couple of birthdays this issue - with a very important one for a prominent community member. There are several AGM reminders on page 11. The Clubs and Committees section has a couple of big entries and it's pleasing to see so many groups working with the COVID-19 restrictions and returning to their schedules. Please note the great workshops the Men's Shed is hosting. As usual, these are open to our community and are well worth attending. I have added the Peanut and Chicken soup recipe from our Soup 'n Cinema day because it was so popular, and rather than do copies I put it on page 15. I will probably upload it to the website as a pdf for downloading, later on. On page 16, there is also some information regarding the Barossa Family Drug Support Group, as well as notifications for some SA Government initiatives - found on the YourSAy website. Stay warm and safe, Cheers, Sue and Paula
